Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 655 War or Surrender

As soon as he opened his mouth, the whistling sound from his missing teeth brought a strange and awkward bit of comedy to the tense room. President Holland said with grievance, “My emperor! My two rows of teeth were knocked out by a lowly commoner, and I was even directly expelled by one of Heaven’s Cult’s governors!” Speaking of Mr. Drake’s completely dismissive attitude, President Holland was filled with anger. “Heaven’s Cult clearly doesn’t take our Tamaria seriously at all! I was the one who got hit, yet he didn’t punish that lowly man at all, and even directly expelled me from the island!” President Holland’s tone was full of accusations. Hearing his tone, the emperor already sensed that something was very wrong. He actually dared to complain about Heaven’s Cult?! God! The emperor suddenly had a bad feeling! He asked sternly, “President Holland! Did you show any disrespect toward Heaven’s Cult at the time?!” What the emperor said wasn’t a question—it was a statement! If he had truly yielded, he wouldn’t be standing here complaining! He even dared say Heaven’s Cult disrespected Tamaria? That they didn’t take Tamaria seriously? How absurd! Heaven’s Cult—an existence like that—did he really not know his place? Did they need to take Tamaria seriously? President Holland trembled at the question! At the time, he had indeed shown some disrespect toward Mr. Drake. He had strongly disagreed with Mr. Drake’s judgment! If the emperor hadn’t warned him beforehand not to offend Heaven’s Cult people under any circumstances, President Holland would’ve blown up on the spot! But even so, he had only expressed a bit of disagreement, and didn’t say much, right? Would Heaven’s Cult really go this far, sending aircraft carriers and all that, just to start a war over this? The emperor sighed. He’d been too concerned with saving face on normal days, unwilling to let Heaven’s Cult be above him—and as a result, some newly appointed officials didn’t even know their place anymore! But things like this—the emperor thought—should be obvious to anyone in a senior position. Even if the role was inherited from one’s father, they shouldn’t be this clueless! Did he really think that their tiny Tamaria could go up against an existence as terrifying as Heaven’s Cult? But now, it was already too late to say any of this. In less than an hour, Heaven’s Cult’s aircraft carrier would enter Tamaria’s waters! The emperor stood up and waved his arm. “Everyone, come with me to greet Heaven’s Cult!” He paused and gave another reminder. “Remember! No matter what Heaven’s Cult asks for, we must do everything in our power to meet it! We absolutely must not go to war!!!” Even though he had declared Level One alert status, that was only in preparation for the absolute worst-case scenario. If war broke out, given their national strength, how could they possibly be a match for Heaven’s Cult? Even if Tamaria could somehow fight this invading fleet to a draw, they had done so by mobilizing the entire nation’s resources—while Heaven’s Cult had only deployed a portion of their weapons and troops! If they truly fought, Tamaria wouldn’t even have a ten percent chance of winning! Everyone’s hearts trembled. Someone immediately asked, “Then if they want one of our cities—do we give it to them too?!” The emperor gave him a sidelong glance and couldn’t help but start reconsidering. Should Tamaria abolish the inheritance system, and learn from Lioran—appointing officials based on knowledge and capability instead? In recent years, the quality of several newly appointed officials had only gotten worse. He replied impatiently, “Heaven’s Cult won’t want our cities.”His confident tone left many in the room confused. Someone asked again, “Why not?” The emperor rolled his eyes. “Did you forget? Tamaria is located on an island!” “Their Heaven’s Cult headquarters is so far away—what would they do with just one of our cities??” He paused again and added, “If they really wanted something, they’d just take over the entire country!” As soon as he said this, the room exploded in shock! Heaven’s Cult... is really terrifying to that extent?! Tamaria wasn’t one of the world’s top powers, but when it came to economy and technology, it wasn’t weak. Heaven’s Cult was just an organization. Heaven Island wasn’t even larger than Tamaria—it wasn’t even a proper nation. And yet... could such an organization really wipe out Tamaria if it wanted to? But since the emperor had said so, there had to be a reason behind it. The vast ocean stretched endlessly, with surging waves. The aircraft carrier led by Arthur and bearing the Heaven’s Cult flag had smoothly reached the boundary of Tamaria’s waters. Lioran’s escort fleet stopped just behind Heaven’s Cult’s fleet and did not leave. Although Tamaria had not officially issued any documents admitting they had detained someone from Lioran—
