Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 615 Inheritance

Even though they were his biological granddaughters, Benjamin didn’t show the slightest hint of softness. With the topic of the Gray family finished, Benjamin turned his attention to Ashley. His face had softened into a warm smile. “You must be Ashley, right?” In that moment, he looked like nothing more than a kind, gentle old man. Hearing her name suddenly come up, Ashley stiffened instinctively. She immediately straightened up, nerves taking over. This was Arthur’s real grandfather—someone he deeply respected. Not like John and Raelynn. Only then did Arthur realize that he’d been so focused on catching up with his grandfather, he hadn’t even formally introduced Ashley. Sure, Grandpa probably already knew she was his fiancée… but saying it out loud, introducing her personally, meant something. It was a matter of respect. Arthur quickly walked to Ashley’s side, his expression serious and formal. “Grandpa, let me officially introduce someone to you.” He even cleared his throat first, and the way he stood—so stiff and ceremonial—made Ashley feel even more nervous. She was caught between laughter and panic. Benjamin’s smile widened with amusement. So, this long-lost grandson of his clearly cared a lot about this girl. Arthur stood tall, extended his hand toward Ashley, palm up, and formally declared, “Grandpa, this is my fiancée—Ashley.” Ashley tensed up at how formal Arthur was being. She gave Benjamin a deep, respectful bow. “Grandpa—oh, no, I mean… sir, hello. I’m Ashley.” She was so nervous, she tripped over her words. Benjamin and Arthur both looked scandalized. Benjamin was the first to object. “Hey now, if you’re Arthur’s fiancée, then you’re my granddaughter-in-law! We’re family. What’s with all this ‘sir’ business? That makes us sound like strangers.” Arthur chimed in right away. “Exactly! Ashley, don’t be so distant! Once we graduate, we’re getting married right away!” Then he turned to Benjamin and added seriously, “Grandpa, you’re the only real family I have left. You’re the one I respect most in this world. When we get married, you’ll be the one officiating. You’re the one we’ll be serving tea to.” As Arthur spoke, he was already imagining their beautiful wedding day. Hearing those words, Benjamin’s eyes grew misty again. He reached out and patted Arthur’s shoulder. “Good boy. You’ve suffered long enough. But don’t worry—now that Grandpa’s here, I’ll make sure no one ever hurts you again.” He meant every word. Then both men turned to Ashley at the same time. Her face had turned bright red, and her heart was thudding in her chest. She was so flustered she stammered out, “G-Grandpa… hello.” “Hey!” Benjamin answered immediately, like he was afraid her greeting might get lost in the air. Just like that, the tension in the room evaporated. Arthur beamed. “There we go! My grandpa is your grandpa!” “Good kids. All good kids,” Benjamin said with a joyful smile, looking exactly like the loving grandfather from ten years ago. No matter what he’d been through, some things hadn’t changed. Ashley was swept up in the warmth of the moment, and slowly, her nerves faded. At least now, she wasn’t nearly as anxious. After the laughter died down, Benjamin looked around the room with contentment. “I have to say, I’m grateful I built Heaven’s Cult. You’re my only heir now, Arthur. One day, it’ll all be yours.” His tone was so natural, as if he’d thought about it a thousand times already.Arthur stared at him, stunned. “W-What?” His mind couldn’t keep up. Reuniting with Grandpa had been incredible—overwhelming, even—but inheriting Heaven’s Cult? He’d never even considered it. This was Heaven’s Cult. The organization whispered about across the world—feared by powerful nations. A legend. Just being allowed to step foot on Heaven Island… just being invited to take the Cult’s test… had already made him the envy of countless people. And now, Grandpa was saying he wanted to hand the whole thing over to him? Arthur instinctively shook his head. “No! Grandpa, I—I can’t. I’m not qualified.” He panicked. This wasn’t some company inheritance. This was Heaven’s Cult. This was the core of an empire that quietly influenced the power structures of entire nations. His shoulders felt far too small for something so immense. He wasn’t sure they could ever bear that kind of weight.
