Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 575 The Secret Exam

Arthur no longer had to live in constant fear for Ashley’s safety. Not only could they live together now, but they could also come and go freely. There were no longer armed guards stationed at their door day and night. Arthur figured this probably had something to do with Drake. Once the bodyguard left, Ashley closed the door behind him. Arthur opened the file—and was instantly stunned. It was the assessment material for joining Heaven's Cult! Startled, he slammed the folder shut. The two of them exchanged glances. Without a word, they both stood up and began scanning the room for hidden cameras or any kind of surveillance equipment. After all, this wasn’t familiar territory, and they were surrounded by elites from every field. Everyone was technically a rival. Arthur didn’t know whether the others had tampered with the housing, but it was better to be safe than sorry. They carefully checked everything. After confirming there was nothing suspicious, Arthur finally locked the door, shut the windows, drew the curtains, and cautiously reopened the folder Drake had given him. Not everyone who arrived on the island would become a member of Heaven’s Cult. Coming here only meant they’d reached the threshold. Whether or not they would actually be accepted depended on a series of rigorous tests. Word had it, many people couldn’t pass them. Worse still, the contents of these assessments changed every year—making it virtually impossible to cheat. And yet now, Arthur had gotten his hands on this top-secret material in advance! It was practically a backdoor from Drake.Even though getting the files didn’t guarantee he would pass, the fact that he could study and prepare ahead of time gave him a significant advantage. Heaven's Cult didn’t fear retribution from those who failed to join. Setting aside their military strength, even the fog surrounding the island was almost enough to keep all enemies out. Opportunities to land on the island were rare. Even for members of Heaven’s Cult, most of their time was spent off the island—and they couldn’t return at will. Just like Solivair. Even passing through the fog once or twice, a normal person wouldn’t be able to remember the route. Besides, rumor had it the fog shifted its position every day. Only those with professional training on the island could navigate through it and land safely on Heaven Island. With so many layers of defense, the idea that someone could pose a threat after leaving was basically unthinkable. For several days, Arthur and Ashley did nothing but study the materials Drake had given him, only breaking to eat or sleep. Arthur was the one officially invited to take part in the trials—Ashley had no plans to participate. Arthur still had no idea how deep the waters of Heaven’s Cult ran, and he didn’t want to drag Ashley into it just yet. But wherever Arthur was, Ashley would be too. For the past few days, she’d been taking care of all his meals and daily needs. There were shelves on one side of the room filled with books, many of them about Heaven Island. In her spare time, Ashley would flip through them, finding them interesting enough not to be bored. The trial was scheduled for seven days later. In the meantime, everyone was focused on their own preparations. The various powerful figures who had just arrived on Heaven Island were finally able to enjoy a rare moment of peace. For once, they didn’t have to deal with corporate or political responsibilities. Over these few days, most of them took the opportunity to explore every corner of Heaven Island. Among the newcomers, Arthur and Ashley were the only ones who hadn’t been seen outside for several days straight.Naturally, this raised a few eyebrows. Finally, on the morning of the fifth day, Arthur opened the door. Heaven Island was surrounded by the ocean, and in the early morning, the sun could be seen rising directly from the sea. Everyone had gotten used to waking early. By the time Arthur stepped outside, most of the others were already up. He was staying in a small courtyard. Just beyond the door, the yard was filled with plants native to Heaven Island. Ashley was instantly enchanted by the vibrant flowers. She stepped outside, cupped one in her hands, and sniffed it. “These are beautiful,” she sighed sincerely. They’d returned in such a rush that night, and it had been too dark to notice the courtyard was blooming with so many stunning flowers. Over the past few days, even though Ashley had desperately wanted to go out and walk around, she held herself back so she wouldn’t cause trouble for Arthur. This place was unfamiliar, filled with unknown dangers—she didn’t dare wander off on her own. If she accidentally caused any trouble, it would only make things harder for Arthur.
