Stronger Every Time I Die
“You—” John was seething with rage. “Arthur, don’t push your luck!” Susie snapped, unable to hold back any longer. Even Rosie frowned and scolded, “Is this how you talk to Dad?” Raelynn’s eyes were slightly red, whether from anger or disappointment. “Arthur, what happened to you? How did you become like this?” Julie, however, remained silent, lips pressed together. She could clearly feel that Arthur was different—like a completely different person. Not just in attitude, but in presence. His calmness, his composure… these weren’t things he had before. How could someone change so much in such a short time? Had they truly hurt him so deeply? Arthur waved his hand impatiently. “Just go. Don’t disturb our class.” Zac immediately stepped forward, slipping back into his usual two-faced demeanor. “Arthur, Dad, Mom, and our sisters made time to come here just to see you. How can you bear to make them wait outside?” Arthur raised an eyebrow. This guy really never changed. With an infuriating smirk, Arthur shot back, “You’re a failing student, but I’m not. Just because you don’t care about studying doesn’t mean I don’t. If you make me miss class, are you going to be responsible?” “You—” Zac nearly choked on his own breath. In front of everyone, Arthur had just called him a failure! Sure, Arthur’s grades were slightly better than his, but not by much. What right did he have to look down on him? Before Zac could retaliate, Mr. Lane stepped in. “Zac, Arthur is right. At your age, you should be focusing on your studies instead of getting involved in unnecessary drama that harms others—and yourself.” The principal even gave Arthur an approving nod.Arthur returned the look with admiration, silently giving Mr. Lane a mental thumbs-up. Standing up to power—now that took guts. Zac was so furious he nearly saw stars. Was Mr. Lane taking jabs at him? What did he mean by getting involved in unnecessary drama? For a moment, Zac almost pretended to have a heart attack, but then he remembered—Arthur hadn’t been dealt with yet. He had to endure it for now. John, however, wasn’t as restrained. His face darkened as he said, “Mr. Lane, I’d be careful about making such statements.” He fully expected the principal to backtrack upon hearing his displeasure. Instead, Mr. Lane waved him off dismissively, as if shooing away a fly. “Enough. You’ve wasted enough of our students’ time. Please leave.” John could feel the veins on his forehead throbbing. He clenched his fists, took a deep breath, and growled through gritted teeth, “We’re leaving!” With that, the Gray family stormed out of the classroom, leaving the room in silence. Arthur casually pulled out his book and refocused on the lesson. His classmates, meanwhile, were all mentally giving him a standing ovation. Legendary! The mental strength it took to stand up to a powerful family like that… incredible! Outside, the Gray family stood in the glaring sun, looking back at the classroom. “Do you think he’s actually going to make us wait out here?” Susie grumbled, shielding herself from the heat. Her delicate skin couldn’t handle this kind of exposure. “He… should come out soon, right?” Rosie said uncertainly. Zac, in his usual subtle manipulation, sighed, “Arthur shouldn’t have spoken to Dad like that. If this gets out, people will start saying Dad can’t even control his own son.” Julie’s eyes sharpened instantly. She had heard similar words before and had always agreed without thinking. But ever since she had seen Zac’s secret smirk while pretending to be weak in their mother’s arms, she could no longer blindly believe in his supposed kindness. The rest of the Gray family, however, wasn’t on the same page. Unlike Julie, they hadn’t seen what she had seen. They still believed Zac was pure and misunderstood—that Julie must have been mistaken. As expected, Susie immediately jumped in, fuming, “I think he’s doing this on purpose—trying to ruin Dad’s reputation. Otherwise, why would he have made such a scene last night?” “He made a fool of our family in front of the entire elite circle, and now he won’t even come home to apologize? We had to come here ourselves, and now he’s getting outsiders to kick us out?” Susie grew angrier with each word. “He’s completely out of control!”
