Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 504 Unknown Fate

Arthur continued thinking. Even life and death remained uncertain. If Timothy was truly acting under Solivair's orders, what was his purpose? Unfortunately, given the urgency of the situation, I hadn't been able to extract any information from Timothy. Before boarding the helicopter, I took one last look at Timothy. The man had already been torn apart by the vengeful wolves, his body mangled beyond recognition - undeniably dead. Over the past few days, I had noticed Timothy's slight resemblance to Dean. Aside from luring the wolf pack with the fire that day, Timothy hadn't made any particularly suspicious moves. Nor had we discovered anything unusual during the journey. Arthur couldn't understand it. I was simply looking for a family member - why had Timothy insisted on coming along? If Timothy's only motive was to avenge Dean, why had he waited until we reached the cabin to act? During those days, I had been vulnerable while sleeping, giving Timothy ample opportunity to strike. Moreover, we had spent an entire night at the cabin. Arthur felt the situation growing more and more convoluted, shrouded in layers of fog he couldn't penetrate. After a moment of reflection, Arthur called Waylen again. "Send someone back to the forest. See if anyone has been there recently." A flicker of confusion crossed Waylen's eyes, but he dutifully replied, "Alright!" After the two men left, Ashley turned to Arthur with a puzzled expression. "Arthur, did you find anything?" Arthur hesitated, then decided to voice his concern. Spencer and Nancy had been right. I and Ashley were engaged, soon to be joined. Many things were better faced together.Sharing my thoughts with Ashley would also allow her to remain vigilant. Sometimes too much secrecy could lead to unforeseen harm. After listening, Ashley fell into deep thought. "Arthur, could your grandfather have had a special identity? Something that would cause Solivair to send Timothy after you?" Timothy was Dean's brother, so it was only a matter of time before he turned on Arthur. But the question remained - why had Timothy waited until this particular moment to act? He'd had countless opportunities, especially on the day we'd been attacked by the wolves and taken refuge in the cave. On that day, I had been burning with fever, and Arthur had been exhausted. Timothy, one of the few unharmed, could easily have struck then. Arthur shook his head. "Grandfather was an ordinary man. He founded the Gray Corporation in his youth. After he turned it over to John, he left and disappeared without a trace. If John hadn't given me that clue on his deathbed, I wouldn't have even known to search the forest." "Maybe he didn't want blood on his hands," Ashley speculated. "That's why he baited the wolves, hoping they'd kill you instead." Arthur frowned as he considered the possibility. It made sense. In the cave, the entrance had been guarded at all times, leaving Timothy no opening. But as soon as we had reached the hut and learned that Waylen had contacted the rescue, Timothy had called the wolves. He could then have struck from behind, ensuring that I met my end in the pack's jaws. By the time help arrived, Timothy could have slipped away unnoticed. But I had seen through his plan, forcing Timothy to act prematurely. If that were the case, it also explained why Timothy had been so determined to follow me into the forest. I seldom traveled with bodyguards. The trip to Mose Forest had been a rare opportunity for Timothy to get close to me. Moreover, the wild, dangerous terrain of the forest provided the perfect cover for an attack. It all made perfect sense.Yet for some reason, Arthur still felt an inexplicable unease. Except in exceptional circumstances, I rarely had bodyguards with me-after all, I was still a student. Even when I did need protection, I usually brought only a select few with me, and they often accompanied me. The rest usually remained stationed in the company. If Timothy had gone to such lengths to infiltrate my security team, he must have known this. How could he have been so sure he'd get a chance to approach me? And strike? As the two were talking, Taylor arrived. The moment Taylor saw Arthur wrapped in bandages, his eyes reddened. He raised a fist as if to punch Arthur but hesitated in midair, afraid of aggravating his injuries. After a long pause, he finally spat out, "You idiot! Going off on your own like that. Why didn't you tell me? Look at you, all covered in wounds! Don't you know how to take care of yourself? Spare me the worry, will you?" Taylor's scolding poured out in a torrent, and Arthur listened quietly, warmth spreading through his chest at the sight of his friend's concern. Seeing Arthur being scolded, Ashley instinctively interjected, "Taylor, Arthur just..."
