Stronger Every Time I Die
Tears welled up in Zac's eyes once again, sliding silently down his face. He nodded frantically, so overwhelmed with emotion that he could not utter a single word. Zane reached out and pulled Zac into his arms once more, embracing him with all the affection of a father who had been absent too long. "My boy," Zane whispered, voice thick with emotion. "From now on, I will make it up to you, properly." At the same time, a respectful knock came from outside the room. "Mr. Zane, the dishes are ready to be served," the waiter announced politely. Hearing the voice, Zane gently released Zac from his embrace. He smiled warmly and personally wiped away the tear tracks on Zac's face. "Alright now," he comforted with fatherly indulgence, "you're a grown man. Wipe those tears away quickly, or you'll give others a good laugh." The word 'others' said everything. He and Zac were family now. Zac's heart bloomed with warmth at the sound of those words. When he had finally calmed his emotions, Zane turned toward the door and said with calm authority, "Come in." Soon, the large table was filled with an array of exquisite dishes, and every single one of them was Zac's favorite food. It turned out that Zane had gone out of his way to ask Raelynn for this information. He had initially approached Renee for help. After all, she had lived with Zac for so long. But to his surprise, Renee, his biological mother, did not even know what dishes her son liked best. Left with no choice, Zane had gone to ask Raelynn. She cherished Zac like the apple of her eye since he was a child. There was nothing about Zac's likes and dislikes that Raelynn did not know. Looking at the table full of his favorite dishes, Zac's eyes lit up with pure, unguarded joy. Zane personally pushed the plate of drunken chicken in front of Zac. It was Zac's absolute favorite. With a gentle voice, he said, "I must apologize. I wasn't sure what you liked to eat, so I ordered some of my usual favorites. I thought, since we're father and son, perhaps our tastes might be similar." With just a few casual words, Zane effortlessly transformed the truth that he had asked Raelynn for help into a touching coincidence of father-son connection. Two people who had lived apart for years yet shared the same tastes. What could possibly make one feel closer than that? Sure enough, Zac's heart surged with emotion and delight. "You like these too?" he asked in wonder. Zane nodded naturally. "Yes. Do you like them, Zac?" Zac nodded enthusiastically. "I love them! These are all my favorite dishes, especially the drunken chicken." Speaking excitedly, he picked up a tender piece of chicken wing, savoring the familiar flavor with contentment. Just the way I like it! As he ate, he pushed the plate of drunken chicken toward Zane with bright, eager eyes. "You should try it too. This drunken chicken is really authentic. It's my absolute favorite." Zane smiled faintly at the boy's innocent expectation for a moment, even feeling the rare warmth of familial joy. Without hesitation, he picked up a piece of chicken wing as well. Crisp on the outside, tender within. Indeed, very well made. In fact, Zane had never been fond of chicken, nor had he ever eaten this dish before. Had it not been for his plan to win over the Tremo family, he would never have touched it. But this was what Zane excelled at. Understanding people and knowing exactly how to win their hearts. After swallowing the piece of chicken, Zane looked at Zac, his tone gentle and sincere. "Zac, we've been here for a while now, but I've yet to hear you call me 'Dad.'" His voice softened. "Would you be willing to grant me this wish today?" He sounded humble. Just like an old father, sincerely seeking forgiveness from his long-lost son. Zac's heart had already been fully won over. After a moment's hesitation, he finally whispered, "Dad." "Yes!!" The word had barely left Zac's lips when Zane responded immediately, voice full of uncontrollable excitement. The beaming joy on his face gave Zac an unexpected sense of accomplishment. Calling him 'Dad' could make this man so happy?Looking at Zane's elated expression, all of Zac's lingering doubts melted away. It was worth it. The meal that followed was harmonious beyond words. Zac was genuinely overjoyed that they shared the same tastes and preferences. But most importantly, the thing he had dreamed of for so long had finally come true. Zane had recognized him and had acknowledged him as his son! From now on, he would rightfully be Zane's son! Although things had not been made public yet. Perhaps it was not convenient to do so, but at least he had Zane's recognition now. After some time of hesitation, Zane spoke again, somewhat embarrassed. "Zac, you know... I'm not in a position to publicly acknowledge you as my son just yet. But I want you to live openly and proudly. After all, all of this is my fault." Zac listened quietly, obediently. After a brief pause, Zane continued. "Zac, I've thought about it for a long time... and I've come up with what I believe is the best solution."
