Stronger Every Time I Die
Hearing the loud criticism, Solivair smiled. He thought to himself, hehe. Wasn't Arthur everyone's favorite just now? Wasn't he shining, the crowd's darling? Could he still smile now? Solivair wasn't going to let Arthur off easy. He continued. "Ladies and gentlemen, the ancients said our bodies and skin come from our parents. Our lives, everything we have, are gifts from them. It's our parents who gave us all we have! No matter how much we thank our parents, it's only right!" Solivair's words won nods from many in the crowd. He went on, "But! Among us, someone is utterly heartless!" Solivair pointed straight at Arthur! "He enjoys feasts at top banquets, sits as chairman of Cloudia Corporation, basking in wealth and glory! But he abandoned his own biological father! Left him to fend for himself, to face scorn, insults, starving one meal and full the next, suffering inhuman pain! Maybe John asked Arthur for help. Maybe he struggled. Maybe he begged Arthur to take him in. But he failed! Cloudia Corporation has grown fast in the past two years. Isn't its wealth enough to support his old father? Even if they had grudges, no grudge can cut their father-son bond! Blood is thicker than water, they share the same blood! If Arthur just let a little slip through his fingers, gave him some money, I bet John wouldn't be in this state! But he didn't!! He only cared about his own enjoyment! His own wealth and glory! He let his old father beg to survive! Do you still dare to deal with someone like that?" Solivair's "passionate speech" touched many in the crowd. Solivair thought to himself, yes. No matter what, that was still his biological father who raised him. Even with huge grudges, their blood tie couldn't be broken. Arthur was so rich, if he just gave a bit for food and shelter, it wouldn't have come to this. But he didn't. Being in high places, we'd seen a lot. John begging outside, looking at him, I could guess how bad it was. I could imagine he faced scorn, insults, maybe even beatings from lowlifes while begging. As his son, could he really stand it? Could he really watch this? Didn't he feel any guilt? Arthur clenched his fists. He thought to himself, I hated John deeply! John gave me life but didn't raise me. He abused me from childhood! He let Zac bully me for eight years! In my past life, he even watched me drown in the sea for Zac's sake! I couldn't help hating him! But now, seeing him like this, in Solivair's hands, I couldn't stay cold. Like Solivair said, my life still came from John. Hugo felt Arthur's turmoil and patted his shoulder, comforting him silently. Just as he was about to speak for Arthur, the quiet John suddenly looked up. He glanced at Zac, who glared at him with a warning, at the smug Solivair, and at the crowd condemning Arthur. Pain filled John's eyes. He shouted loudly. "Solivair! Don't you dare use me to attack Arthur!" John turned to the crowd. "My sins in this life are too many to count. Compared to the abuse I gave Arthur, what I'm suffering now is nothing!" he said.As he spoke, tears poured down John's face. He looked at Arthur, eyes full of guilt. "All of this is what I deserve! It's just a shame I realized it too late! I understood too late! My son has been hurt too much by me," he said. By the end, John sobbed hard. His cloudy eyes held endless regret and pain. After learning Renee tricked him and Zac wasn't his son, he thought of suicide to end his sinful life. He had no face to see Arthur. Then he thought, Arthur suffered so much because of him. He should feel the pain Arthur went through to atone, even just a little. But he never thought he'd be used one day to attack and hurt Arthur! And the one who lured him here was Zac, whom he'd loved with all his heart!
