Stronger Every Time I Die
Arthur’s wrist was caught in Ashley’s grip, but he didn’t panic in the slightest. The moment Ashley let her guard down, Arthur quickly reached out with his other hand, moving toward the place he had been yearning for. Soon, the water in the bathtub rippled wildly, splashing across the entire bathroom. By evening, the two of them walked out of the hotel, fully dressed. Ashley was so hungry she was feeling lightheaded. Arthur, feeling a little guilty, held onto her. "Just hold on a little longer. We’ll have food soon." They had only eaten a little earlier to tide themselves over. Caught up in the moment, neither of them had even noticed their hunger. It wasn’t until Ashley nearly fainted from it that Arthur realized they had gone an entire day without a proper meal. Luckily, there was a restaurant they both liked right downstairs. They quickly got dressed and went to get something hot to eat. Ashley shot Arthur a resentful glance but didn’t say anything this time. Honestly, she had forgotten too. Arthur was just too much. She really couldn’t keep up with him. Looks like I’ll have to visit Lioran University more often. Otherwise, if he keeps going without, I’m the one who’s going to suffer for it next time! Just as they finished eating, Arthur’s phone rang. It was Stanley. As soon as the call connected, Stanley’s anxious voice came through. "Our company’s internal network has been hacked! Several of our projects have been snatched up by competitors—this isn’t normal." Over the years, Stanley had developed sharp instincts. The moment he sensed something was off, he immediately called Arthur. The second he realized their network had been breached, he had brought in cybersecurity specialists, but they couldn’t stop the intruder at all. The moment they patched one vulnerability, the hacker found another way in. At first, Stanley thought it was just a standard cyberattack. But after repeatedly patching security holes only to have the hacker keep coming back, he knew something was seriously wrong. Some of the company’s confidential files had already been stolen. If this continued, they would be in serious trouble. Seeing the urgency of the situation, Stanley had called Arthur without hesitation. Arthur narrowed his eyes. He knew the level of the cybersecurity experts Stanley had hired. They were already among the best in the country. For someone to be able to break through their defenses so effortlessly, there weren’t many people in Lioran capable of pulling it off. For some reason, the first person that came to Arthur’s mind was Solivair—those cold, calculating eyes of his. Could it be him? Heh. That was fast. So impatient. Before Ashley could even ask about the call, her own phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the screen, suspicious. It was Nancy. Ashley picked up, her voice unconsciously turning softer. "Mom." Every time Nancy called, Ashley’s tone would naturally become more gentle. But this time, all she could hear was urgency on the other end. "Ashley! Walker Group’s internal network has been hacked. We don’t even know what kind of virus they planted, but our cybersecurity team can’t fix it. A lot of confidential documents have already been stolen, and we have a major bid tomorrow—our base price has been exposed!" Nancy’s voice was filled with anxiety and helplessness. Their cybersecurity team wasn’t bad either, but they were completely powerless against this attack. Nancy wasn’t even sure why she was telling Ashley this—she knew it probably wouldn’t help—but for some reason, she had called her daughter instinctively. After a brief pause, she added, "Ashley, I have a bad feeling about this. Stay alert, be careful, and try not to leave campus if you can, okay?"Years of experience told Nancy that this wasn’t just a random cyberattack. Someone was targeting them. This was deliberate. Spencer was already calling Natalie, but what worried Nancy the most was Ashley. Ashley was too kind, too young. She was out there on her own, and Nancy couldn’t help but be concerned. Ashley had put the call on speaker. She instinctively turned to look at Arthur. Before she could even respond, Arthur spoke up first. "Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. My company was also hacked." There was a brief silence on the other end. Then, Nancy’s voice came back, filled with surprise. "Arthur? You’re with Ashley?" Despite her shock, there was a clear note of delight in her tone. She had been worried about them being in a long-distance relationship. Every time she called Ashley, she would remind her to go visit Arthur. There were so many pretty girls on campus—if some cute little thing managed to steal Arthur away, where would Ashley go crying then?
