Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 415 No Escape

Ashley’s eyes turned red the moment she saw the scar. She had spent an entire afternoon and evening with him and hadn’t even noticed he was injured. The wound had only just healed. That punch she gave him earlier… it must have hurt so much. Guilt, remorse, and heartache flooded her chest. Choking up, she asked, "Does it still hurt?" Arthur immediately panicked. He straightened up, waving his hands frantically. "No, no, it doesn’t hurt at all! I was just—just lying! I wanted you to stay with me longer." His voice trailed off at the end, growing softer and softer. He had missed her so much. After being apart for so long, no matter how much he looked at her, it wasn’t enough. He didn’t want to part ways just yet. He didn’t want to wait until tomorrow to be with her again. He wanted to spend every second by her side. Ashley felt the same way. She should have been angry that he had lied. But instead, her heart just ached for him. She didn’t care about the trick. She only cared about his injury. At least now she knew about it. If he hadn’t told her, she might never have found out. Without hesitation, she asked, "How did this happen? How did you get hurt this badly? Why didn’t you ever mention it before?" As she spoke, she reached for his shirt again, her hands moving over his body, searching for any other injuries. "Did you get hurt anywhere else? Let me check." Arthur quickly grabbed her hands, pressing them down onto his chest to stop her. "I’m fine. I just bumped into something that day. It doesn’t hurt. It healed in a few days."His tone was firm—he didn’t want her to worry. Right now, their priority was finishing school and graduating early. Then they could get married as soon as possible. Even though he reassured her multiple times, Ashley still wasn’t convinced. "No. I have to check for myself. I won’t be at ease until I do." Arthur sighed. Realizing there was no way to talk her out of it, he flopped back onto the couch dramatically. "Fine, go ahead. But if you look, you have to take responsibility." Ashley blinked, confused. "Responsibility?" They were already engaged. The moment they were old enough, they would get married. Hadn’t that been the plan all along? Arthur’s lips curled into a devilish smile. Ashley immediately sensed danger. Her heart skipped a beat. Before she could react, Arthur suddenly sat up, leaning in close. His breath was warm against her ear as he whispered mischievously, "Earlier, outside, you said you weren’t sore anymore." Ashley’s entire body froze. A shiver ran down her spine. She had assumed Arthur was simply checking on her out of concern. When he had asked if she was feeling better, she had honestly replied, "It doesn’t hurt anymore." She hadn’t realized— This was what he had meant. Her face turned so red it felt like it was burning. But then, she glanced at him suspiciously. They were both adults. She had done some research on these things before. A man couldn’t just keep going forever, right? They had already spent an entire afternoon and evening together. Hours had passed. Wasn’t he tired? She could barely keep up last time. But when she looked into his eyes— They were glowing. Bright. Hungry. Ashley instantly had her answer. She was doomed. She had heard a saying before. There’s no such thing as an overworked field, only an exhausted ox. But clearly, that saying wasn’t true. Because right now, she was definitely the one being exhausted. Now she finally understood what Arthur had meant by responsibility. Ashley hesitated. She cast him a resentful glance. "I just wanted to check your wound. Not… your body." The last two words were said so quietly they were almost inaudible. Arthur, on the other hand, had zero shame. "But the wound is on my body." His expression was so shameless that Ashley was speechless. When had she ever realized how thick-skinned this man could be?She didn’t know if she should feel bad for his injury or curse him for being such a shameless rogue. Arthur, of course, wasn’t going to give her the chance to decide. Before she could think of an escape plan, he suddenly stood up— And turned off the lights. Ashley barely had time to react before Arthur pulled off his shirt— And lunged at her. "Heh, missy, I’m coming for you!" Ashley let out a startled yelp. Off guard, she fell backward onto the couch, completely trapped under him.
