Stronger Every Time I Die
Kent knew what Arthur had been through since childhood, but he didn't care; all he knew was that Arthur, like those other rich kids, never really saw ordinary people like him. His father was a gambler who squandered any bit of money the family had. His mother had been bedridden for years. Children from impoverished backgrounds aged before their time. Since his teens, Kent had been the main breadwinner, picking up trash, washing dishes at small diners, cleaning, and doing odd jobs to make ends meet. After school each day, he'd work part-time jobs late into the night before he dared to go home. Because he was young and earned little, he still faced his gambler father's curses daily. His mother was distressed but could only earn a meager income by sewing and mending for others at home. Over the years, he hardly knew how he'd managed to survive. People always say that education is the only way out for the poor. He believed that too. He thought that as long as he studied hard, he could rise above his circumstances and change his fate. So he studied tirelessly, using lunch breaks and even short breaks between classes to go through as many exercises as possible. Because he had to work part-time in the evenings and on weekends, he made the most of the little time he had to learn as much as he could. Finally, his persistence paid off, and he made it into his dream school, Governance University! He had thought that his life would change from there. But as soon as he entered Governance University, he faced bullying from the children of wealthy families! They told him he was an eyesore and that even after graduating, they'd make sure he couldn't find a good job and would drive him out of Lioran! Eventually, Finley stepped in and saved him. After that, Finley even took out cash to sponsor his education. Without Finley, he wouldn't have been able to attend school, let alone earn money to change his fate. And most importantly, the way Finley had looked at him just now! In the face of fate, Kent never had a choice! Everything was going well until Arthur came along. If it weren't for him, Kent could have smoothly graduated with Finley's support and not worry about work. Kent took a deep breath. He suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with intense hatred. "Why? You still have the nerve to ask me why?" Kent pointed fiercely at Arthur and Taylor, "You've humiliated me in front of everyone time and again! You made it impossible for me to stand in front of my classmates! You disrespect the authority of the student council, you disrespect Finley, and you still have the face to ask me why?" As he spoke, the malice in Kent's eyes deepened, "I want to ruin you! I want to take revenge on you! I want you to taste what it's like to be despised by everyone, I want to make your lives miserable! Today's welcome party was the perfect opportunity for revenge! How could I possibly pass it up? That's right, I stole the ring. I took advantage of Finley's trust, when he wasn't expecting it, and took the ring. Then, with a fake stumble, I secretly slipped it into your pocket! I didn't expect that you would have anticipated this, Arthur, you're smarter than I thought." Kent's words, a mix of truth and deceit, left everyone with mixed feelings. Finley, hearing this, finally breathed a sigh of relief. Kent had the presence of mind! As long as Kent himself admitted it, even if they still had doubts, they had no evidence to pin any crime on him. He could successfully transform from a schemer to a victim! Taylor, unable to contain his anger, exclaimed, "We hurt you? Kent, why don't you touch your conscience and ask yourself, whenever you faced us, wasn't it you who sought trouble first? Every single time, you provoked us for no reason!" Arthur frowned deeply. He truly hadn't expected Kent to still cover for Finley, sacrificing himself to defend him. He knew Kent came from an ordinary family and understood his struggles. He had hoped that this situation would help Kent see Finley's true colors and come to his senses in time. But unexpectedly, Kent was willing to go to such lengths for Finley! Didn't he realize what the consequences of admitting this would be? Could he really bear the impact of being expelled from Governance University? Was he really willing to give up his own future?
