Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 370

At that moment, nobody really knew what to say. The crowd fell into an eerie silence, and Arthur didn't rush things, simply enjoying the expressions on everyone's faces. It was already autumn, and the night air was cool. Standing up high, though he wore a jacket, he didn't feel hot. All eyes were almost exclusively on Finley. The police officers surrounding Arthur had already stepped back two paces. Arthur was not the thief, and there was no need for them to encircle him anymore. And there was Dean, who had clashed with Arthur, standing there with a stunned expression, unable to believe what was unfolding before his eyes. He had received a call from Finley early on, claiming that a master thief would appear at their welcome party that evening, instructing him to lie in wait outside and await his signal. A master thief, as described by Finley, one of Evergrand City’s wealthiest heirs—Dean had believed him wholeheartedly. He had been in the department for many years but had never really had a chance to prove himself. He had dreamed of a chance to make a significant arrest and advance his career, and now it seemed such a grand opportunity had finally come his way, all thanks to his familial connection with Finley. Dean knew the value of the ring in question. If Arthur had indeed stolen it, the charges against him would be severe, and capturing Arthur would bring Dean immense credit. That explained why he was so eager to snatch Arthur's phone when the evidence was presented. He never expected, however, that Arthur would go to such lengths! Who in their right mind rigs themselves with cameras at a welcome party? This was simply not normal behavior! At that moment, his only thought was, "It's over! Everything is over!" After a peculiar, drawn-out silence, Kent suddenly struggled to his feet, his legs so weak he could barely stand straight. He half crawled, half ran towards Finley. The stage wasn’t very large, and he quickly reached Finley's feet. Kent grabbed Finley’s trouser leg as if clutching a lifeline. Terror was evident in his eyes, his lips quivering, "Finley, help, please help me," he stammered. Tears filled his eyes, not just from fear, but also from despair about his future. This time, his tears were unmistakably genuine. Finley himself was already shaken, usually calm and composed, now his face was deathly pale. When Kent pulled at him, Finley staggered and fell to the ground! Kent clutched at Finley even tighter. "Finley, Finley, save me," he repeated over and over. What Kent really wanted to say was that everything was Finley’s doing! He had nothing to do with it! But Kent, having been with Finley so long, knew too well the extent of Finley’s reach! If he dared to speak out, he would never make it out of Evergrand City alive! Being expelled from Governance University was merely a future career issue. But crossing Finley? That is a matter of life and death! Kent clenched his teeth hard, suppressing the urge to blurt out everything. Finley was also trembling, not out of fear for the academic consequences, but because of the competitors within his own family. They had always envied his success and sabotaged him subtly. Now, if this scandal got out, they would use it to attack him relentlessly! And then there was the ring. It was a special favor from his grandmother, unique and significant. He had used this precious gift to frame Arthur. If his grandmother found out, she would be utterly disappointed in him. He had worked so hard to earn her affection, and he couldn't let it all be for nothing now! Finley’s eyes bore into Kent with a severe warning as he gripped Kent’s shoulders tightly. The moment Kent met his gaze, his heart sank completely. Those eyes, full of dark warning, were like those of a demon from hell, sending chills all over his body, turning him rigid, his face even paler than before. Everyone’s eyes were on them, waiting for their next move. It was as if time had stopped in that moment. Suddenly, Finley’s expression changed.
