Stronger Every Time I Die
David didn’t seem to mind. Watching John with amusement, he smirked and said, "What’s wrong? Finally realized you’ve been played?" John spun around abruptly, his eyes locking onto David with an intense, murderous glare. "What do you mean by that?" "Tsk. You’re the only one who couldn’t see it. Those two have been lying to you from the very start," David said casually, unfazed by John’s anger. John pressed his lips together tightly. He glared at David with such hatred, as if he wanted to devour him whole. He wanted to refute it, but the facts spoke for themselves. David continued, "Haven’t you noticed? Zac doesn’t look anything like you." "David!" John exploded at those words. "Say that again, and I’ll beat you to death!" At this moment, John had completely lost the composure of a former CEO. David wasn’t fazed in the slightest. He took a step back and lazily continued, "Think about it. If Zac were really your son, and now that you’re divorced with your daughter no longer in South City, this would be the perfect time for Renee to build a life with you. So why would she take Zac and leave?" "No! No! That’s impossible! It’s not true!" John roared hysterically, shaking his head, desperately denying it. He was saying it to David, but even more so, he was saying it to himself. Seeing his state, David didn’t hesitate to twist the knife deeper. "Why wouldn’t it be true? Haven’t you realized when she started acting cold toward you? Wasn’t it right after you transferred your shares to her?" John froze. Everything else, he could deny. But this—this had always been a thorn in his heart. Renee had indeed started treating him indifferently the moment he handed over the shares yesterday. He had never been able to make sense of it. No, to be more precise—he had refused to think about it. Seeing the shift in his expression, David pressed on. "As for Zac, the hospital should still have traces of his DNA—strands of hair, personal items. Why don’t you just get a paternity test and see for yourself?"John’s head snapped up. He glared at David, his breath ragged. After a long silence, he suddenly let out a guttural scream, "No! I won’t fall for your lies! Zac is my son! He is my biological son!" David took another step back, just in case John lashed out at him. But that didn’t stop him from delivering one final blow. "Your only biological son has always been Arthur. But tragically, you pushed him away with your own hands. You abused your own son in favor of another woman’s child. You tormented Arthur, forced him out of the Gray family. Everyone in South City can see that Zac looks nothing like you! Ask yourself, does he resemble you in any way? Even a little?" With that, David turned and walked away before John could lunge at him. He wanted to watch the show from a safer distance. John stood frozen, staring blankly into space. He didn’t chase after David—he didn’t want to. Because his outburst had already drawn a crowd. People pointed at him, whispering among themselves. "Mr. David is right. Everyone in South City can see it. Zac doesn’t look like him at all. How could he possibly be his biological son?" "Even if he takes after his mom, there should be some resemblance, right? But Zac looks nothing like John." "Honestly, if they even looked a little alike, I’d have assumed Zac was John’s illegitimate child." "But now, it’s clear, John was tricked. And the one who tricked him might just be his lover!" "I heard John divorced Mrs. Gray and left her with nothing." "And I also heard that he cheated during the marriage! A friend of a friend told me." "Really? Then his mistress must be Zac’s mom, right?" "Looks like it! The world of the rich is a mess. This whole situation is giving me a headache." John stood there trembling, his body shaking like a leaf in the wind as the murmurs of the crowd surrounded him. The entire city knew. Everyone knew. Everyone except him. No. No, that’s not true. Renee wouldn’t lie to me. Would she? How could she?John had loved Zac for so many years. For Zac, he had abandoned his own family. He had turned against Arthur, done everything to suppress him, and driven him out of the Gray family. Arthur might have been the one to sever ties, but deep down, John knew—it was him who had pushed Arthur away. Arthur’s fury had surprised him, but when he finally left, John had felt... satisfied.
