Chapter 247 The Engagement

Something else was at play. Raelynn narrowed her eyes. Who exactly was Renee’s lover? Was he Zac’s biological father? In Seacity, today was Arthur and Ashley’s engagement day. Arthur had already severed ties with the Gray family. There was no reason to inform them, let alone invite them. The weather was perfect—clear skies, warm sunlight, and a gentle breeze. The engagement ceremony was held at Seacity’s largest estate. The venue was breathtaking, equipped with top-tier facilities, and featured a sprawling green lawn that could accommodate thousands. Arthur stood amidst the crowd, dressed in a custom suit personally designed by Ivan. His presence was striking. Beside him stood a man unfamiliar to most guests—a tall figure with shoulder-length hair tied back, his appearance unremarkable compared to Arthur’s. But his demeanor carried a rare and effortless grace, like a scholar who had long secluded himself in the mountains. Arthur had few personal connections, so the man stayed by his side, helping him entertain the arriving guests. Arthur watched him hustle around, amused. He patted Ivan on the shoulder with a grin. "Appreciate the hard work! Drinks on me tomorrow." Ivan rolled his eyes. "You really think I, of all people, came all the way here just to play security guard for you? You’ve got some nerve." Arthur gave him a once-over and smirked. "At your age, security guard isn’t the right word." "You—!" Ivan snapped, fuming, and kicked at Arthur. Arthur dodged effortlessly, laughing. "Alright, alright, I’ll stop." Their easy banter caught the attention of onlookers. Everyone was curious—who was the man standing beside Arthur? Most of the guests had attended partly out of respect for the Gibson family, but more importantly, because of Arthur. Rumors had long circulated that Arthur was the chairman of Cloudia Corporation. However, Cloudia Corporation had never officially confirmed it. It remained one of Seacity’s biggest mysteries. Many had come today hoping to find out the truth. If Arthur was truly the chairman, it would be a prime opportunity to build a connection with him. And if he wasn’t? Well, they wouldn’t be losing anything either. Who wouldn’t want a chance to network with the head of Cloudia Corporation? At the center of the estate stood a grand stage. A long red carpet stretched from the stage to a magnificent floral archway, beyond which lay a mysterious closed door. Seated in the front row beneath the stage, Nancy and Natalie gazed at the archway and the breathtaking venue, their hearts heavy with emotion. Nancy’s daughter, Natalie’s sister, was getting engaged. It wasn’t a wedding, but from this day forward, Ashley would no longer be just their little girl—she would be someone’s fiancée. Sadness mingled with joy. They were reluctant to let her go, but more than anything, they were happy for her. Ashley had found a good match. That was all that mattered. Nancy suddenly patted Natalie’s hand. "Natalie, your sister is getting engaged. When are you bringing home a boyfriend?" Natalie froze. Here it was. Her mother’s daily dose of when are you getting married? She sighed. "Mom, can we not talk about this today? It’s Ashley’s big day."Nancy huffed. "Why is this a mood killer? It’s a legitimate question!" "Alright, alright." Natalie quickly grabbed her mother’s hand to change the subject. "I’m working on it, okay?" Just then, the music shifted. The soft melody turned bright and romantic. The ceremony was about to begin! Nancy and Natalie ended their conversation, turning their attention to the end of the red carpet. Arthur was invited onto the stage. The lively chatter of the crowd died down as everyone’s eyes turned toward the stage and the closed door at the far end of the carpet. Arthur had hired Seacity’s top orchestra to perform live. The musicians controlled the atmosphere masterfully, setting the perfect tone. Flower girls had already stepped forward, scattering petals at the archway. Arthur’s eyes gleamed with anticipation as the grand doors slowly swung open. Dressed in a flowing white gown, Ashley emerged, accompanied by Spencer. Arthur’s breath hitched. Ashley’s tall, graceful figure was perfectly complemented by the wedding dress, making her look like a celestial being who had descended to earth. Before deciding to get engaged, Arthur and Ashley had already agreed—they both preferred a classic, elegant ceremony with meaningful traditions. And now, in this moment, everything felt just right.
