Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 231 She Was Utterly Dispensable

The Fraser family lasted less than two weeks before declaring bankruptcy. But that wasn't the worst of it. For reasons unknown, whenever a Fraser family member applied for a job, they were immediately turned away the moment employers heard their name. A few days later, Tia received a notice from the university she had applied to. She had been expelled before even setting foot on campus! Not only that, but she was permanently blacklisted from ever being admitted again. With that single reckless act, Tia had destroyed not only her own future but also her family's. However, Zac remained indifferent. To him, Tia was utterly dispensable. The moment he learned she had been kidnapped and subjected to a forced examination, his disgust for her solidified into outright contempt. If she had successfully latched onto Arthur, Zac might have still found some use for her, given the control he once held over her. Though the idea of his woman scheming to crawl into another man's bed infuriated him, if she still had some value, he could tolerate it. After all, women were expendable. Lose one, find another. It was that simple. Seeing Zac's indifference, John felt a wave of relief. However, his mind was preoccupied with something else. The shadowy figure he had glimpsed at the hospital that day. That silhouette struck him with an uncanny sense of familiarity. But just as he moved in for a closer look, she vanished. A few days later, the Gray family's villa John had put up for sale was officially sold. He had no idea who the buyer was, but the money was transferred into his account without delay. The moment the funds arrived, debt collectors swarmed in like vultures scenting fresh blood. John was still recovering from his injuries, and with Zac in even worse condition, he didn't dare fight back. He had no choice but to surrender every cent to clear his debts. And just like that, the entire sum from selling the villa was gone. Worse still, those who arrived late found there wasn't enough left to pay them. He was still drowning in debt. When Raelynn, Julie, and the others learned that John had sold the villa, their composure shattered completely. For days, they had exhausted themselves running between the hospital and the company, only to find that John had sold the very house they lived in. Raelynn snapped, her voice shrill with rage. "You sold the house? Where the hell are we supposed to live now? Where are all of us supposed to go?" John was briefly taken aback by her sudden outburst. But he quickly recovered, his voice laced with irritation. "What are you screaming for? If I hadn't sold the house, how was I supposed to pay off my debts? Should I have just let them keep piling up?" Julie and her sisters stared at him in stunned disbelief. Julie's voice trembled as she protested, "Dad, that house was Grandpa's! It's been in our family for generations! We grew up there!" At the mention of "Grandpa," John's expression darkened with irritation. "Grandpa? Why the hell are you bringing him up now? What good did that house do for us? If he was so d*mn capable, why didn't he leave us more?" His words left them thunderstruck. Susie, unable to hold back, reminded him, "Dad! Gray Corporation was also Grandpa's!" Everything they had ever owned had come from their grandpa, yet John dismissed it all as if it were nothing. They couldn't believe he could be so callous. Susie opened her mouth to say more, but John cut her off with a wave of his hand, his patience wearing thin. "Enough! What did inheriting Gray Corporation even do for us? Arthur crushed it as if it were nothing." "Dad!" Julie interjected, her voice rising. But before she could get another word in, John roared over her, his temper snapping. "That's enough! If any of you mention that old man again, you can forget about calling me your dad!" The Gray sisters stared at him, stunned. It was as if they were looking at a stranger. Only now did they truly grasp something. They finally understood what Arthur must have felt when their dad had spoken to him this way. The sheer betrayal, the unbearable pain. Raelynn, after her initial shock, suddenly calmed down. Her voice was eerily steady as she said, "Since you've already sold the house, transfer half of your shares to me. At the very least, I can still protect something." John's face twisted with rage. "Protect? And just how the hell do you plan on doing that?" Pointing a trembling finger at her, he unleashed his fury. "Raelynn, what the hell do you mean by this? Now that I've lost my power, you're trying to carve up my assets? Do you actually think you deserve a share of my company?" Raelynn's breath caught in her throat. For years, she had swallowed her pride, endured every slight in silence. She had only ever wanted peace, a harmonious family. She had never wished to tear their bonds apart. And yet, this was what she got in return. Something inside her snapped. Her voice rose to a piercing shriek. "I don't deserve it? Why the hell not? I am your legal wife! Why wouldn't I be entitled to it? Don't forget, it was you who pursued me because my family had money! You insisted on marrying me! And now, after all these years, you have the audacity to tell me I don't deserve a share of your assets? John, do you even have a shred of humanity left?"
