Stronger Every Time I Die
Martin and Mrs. Fraser stared at Tia in disbelief. The daughter who had always been gentle and soft-spoken… how could she have such a terrifying side? For once, Martin and Mrs. Fraser stopped arguing and exchanged glances. Daisy cautiously spoke. “Tia?” Tia was done pretending. She had played the role of the obedient daughter for far too long, and she was exhausted. Without bothering to explain, she turned and walked straight back to her room, slamming the door behind her with a loud bang! The two of them flinched. This was the first time they had ever seen Tia lose her temper like this. From childhood to now, she had always been poised and well-mannered—a true lady from a prestigious family, the epitome of grace and cold beauty. For her to suddenly lash out like this… they weren’t used to it. Daisy shot Martin a glare. “This is all your fault! Look how upset you made her!” Martin didn’t even bother to argue. At this point, words were meaningless. Letting it out was probably for the best. … Arthur’s incredible achievement—scoring first place in the national exams—spread quickly across Lioran. However, outside of South City, the name Arthur wasn’t widely known. At the Gibson residence, Spencer and Nancy beamed as they looked at the screen in front of them. Nancy couldn’t hide her excitement. “Ashley ranked third in the entire country! I never expected her to improve this much!” “And what about Arthur? He got first place!” Spencer said with a proud smile, unable to contain his joy. It was true—good news lifted the spirit. After so many years of quiet, the past few days had been filled with one joyous event after another, making Spencer and Nancy feel younger than ever. “Yes, yes, Arthur is amazing. Not only is he the chairman of Cloudia Corporation, but he also managed to secure the top spot in the national exams!” Nancy’s face was lit with happiness. Both Arthur and Ashley were excelling—how could she not be thrilled? Spencer couldn’t stop grinning. “My future son-in-law is SATs Top One, haha!” As a man in politics, seeing young people achieve such outstanding academic results was a greater joy to him than his own promotions or financial success. Nancy glanced at him, amused. If anyone else saw him acting like this, they’d probably burst out laughing. Spencer had always been a serious man, rarely smiling. If people outside saw him grinning like an idiot right now, their jaws would hit the floor. Nancy sighed with emotion. “Arthur really is our family’s good luck charm. Ever since he appeared, everything in the Gibson family has improved.” Spencer nodded. “Yes. With Ashley finding such a good partner, we don’t have to worry so much about her future.” “By the way,” Nancy suddenly remembered, “didn’t the butler mention yesterday that there’s a banquet tonight to celebrate a successful bid? Stephen Yarbrough is hosting it, and he specifically invited us. Should we attend?” At the mention of the Yarbrough family, Spencer’s expression darkened instantly. “Why would we go to a banquet hosted by Zane Yarbrough’s son?” The Yarbrough family was nothing but trouble. Spencer had no interest in seeing any of them. Nancy, however, smiled knowingly. “The only reason they invited us is to try and humiliate us in public. If we don’t go, we’ll just be giving them exactly what they want. Instead of avoiding it, why not show up and face them head-on?” Spencer looked at her and suddenly chuckled, a rare warmth in his eyes. This was the Nancy he had fallen in love with in their youth. Over the years, family burdens had worn away much of her sharpness, but now, he was seeing that side of her again. Spencer nodded in agreement. “If you want to go, then of course I’ll accompany you.” The two exchanged a glance and burst into laughter. … As night fell, a grand banquet unfolded in one of Seacity’s most luxurious hotel ballrooms. In high society, these banquets were a frequent affair—perfect opportunities to maintain connections and alliances. At the entrance, Maris stood with his arm in a cast, his injured limb supported in a sling around his neck. Alongside him, Stephen welcomed guests with polished smiles and casual conversation. However, both brothers kept glancing toward the entrance, waiting expectantly for two particular guests to arrive. Zane Yarbrough was also present. As the head of the family, how could he miss his son’s event? Finally, Spencer and Nancy arrived. The Yarbrough family’s eyes immediately lit up. They actually showed up! Heh… how foolish. Maris and Stephen stepped forward at once, their smiles laced with deeper meaning. “Mr. Gibson, Madam Nancy, welcome, welcome.”
