Chapter 188 Arthur’s Identity

When Nancy looked into Arthur’s bright, unwavering eyes, she felt nothing but admiration. For someone his age to go through something so unthinkable and still maintain such an optimistic outlook on life—it was truly extraordinary. Ashley held Arthur’s hand tightly, her voice soft but full of emotion. "Arthur, I’ll walk this road with you. You’ll never be alone." Arthur arched a brow. Is this girl openly confessing to me right now? While they were lost in their quiet conversation, Nancy took the chance to briefly explain Arthur’s past with the Gray family to Spencer. Spencer was shocked. Ever since becoming a father, even though work kept him busy and away from home more often than he liked, his love for his wife and daughters had never wavered. To him, no matter how successful he was, family would always come first. He simply couldn’t understand how John could treat his own son with such cruelty. Nancy lowered her voice and whispered to Spencer, "There are rumors that Zac might actually be John’s illegitimate son." Spencer’s eyes sharpened as everything suddenly clicked into place. After years of navigating the political world, he had witnessed the full spectrum of human nature—the warmth and the cruelty. If Zac really was John’s illegitimate child, then John’s determination to bring him into the Gray family and raise him with such care made perfect sense. It meant John had never truly let go of Zac’s mother. The things we can’t have always leave the deepest scars. As a man, Spencer understood that feeling all too well. John had spent years pouring his love into Zac, using him as a way to compensate for the loss of a woman he once cherished. And Arthur—he had been nothing more than collateral damage in that emotional mess. Spencer let out a quiet sigh, feeling an even deeper sense of affection for Arthur, this young man who had already endured so much at such a young age. Out of nowhere, a new thought occurred to Spencer and Nancy.Spencer suddenly asked, "If you cut ties with the Gray family two years ago, then where did your company come from?" Considering how the Gray family had treated Arthur—disliking him at best and outright mistreating him at worst—there was no way they would have handed him a company after he walked away from them. If they had truly cared about him, they wouldn’t have let him go in the first place. No matter how they thought about it, they couldn’t figure out how an eighteen-year-old, starting from absolutely nothing, had managed to establish his own company. Even a small business required a hefty investment and an incredible amount of effort to build. At Spencer’s words, Ashley’s chest swelled with pride. Arthur was the most amazing man in the world! Before Arthur could answer, Ashley quickly grabbed his arm to stop him from speaking. With a confident, almost playful smile, she said, "Dad, Mom, instead of asking how he got it why don’t you ask what Arthur’s company is called?" Spencer and Nancy exchanged puzzled looks. How was that relevant to their question? Still, Nancy played along and asked, "Alright, what’s the name of his company?" Ashley cleared her throat dramatically and declared, "Arthur's company is called—Cloudia Corporation!" "Pfft!" Spencer nearly spit out his tea in shock! He and Nancy turned to Arthur and Ashley, completely dumbfounded. Nancy frowned. "Ashley, are you trying to tease us?" Spencer quickly wiped his mouth, realizing how ridiculous his reaction had been. Thankfully, the meal was already over, and no one was sitting directly across from him to get caught in the splash zone. Nancy's words made him pause. He immediately turned to Ashley and knocked her lightly on the head. "You little rascal, are you messing with me?" Ashley winced, holding her head with a pitiful look. "I’m not joking! I’m telling the truth!" "Oh really?" Nancy shot her a look before giving her another flick on the forehead. Now, with one knock on each side, Ashley’s cheeks were perfectly pink and symmetrical. Arthur’s heart ached. His Ashley—only he was allowed to knock her on the head. Even if it was her parents, he didn’t want her to feel any pain. He quickly spoke up, "Mr. Gibson, Madam Nancy, my company really is Cloudia Corporation. Ashley wasn’t joking." "Huh?" Spencer and Nancy stared at him, their minds struggling to process what they had just heard. After a long pause, Spencer let out an awkward chuckle, trying to make sense of it. "So… your company just happens to be called Cloudia Corporation too?" Too? How could two companies have the same name? Arthur sighed. Do I really not look like a corporate chairman? Without another word, he pulled out his phone, opened his business license, and handed it directly to Spencer and Nancy. The moment their eyes landed on those familiar words, everything clicked. They stared at Arthur in complete shock, their brains still catching up. Ashley, seeing her parents so utterly dumbfounded, couldn’t help but giggle behind her hand. Especially Spencer—after decades in politics, he had always been composed and shrewd. When had I ever seen him look this stunned before?
