Stronger Every Time I Die
The others had varying degrees of injuries, with some suffering internal damage that required surgery. With so many people present, Stephen didn’t say much. Instead, he helped the doctor push Maris’ hospital bed back to his VIP room. Maris was still under anesthesia, but not for long. Soon, Zane and Zoey arrived, having rushed over the moment they heard about his condition. "What happened!" Zane’s angry voice boomed as soon as he stepped into the room. His wife, Zoey, hurried to Maris’ bedside. Seeing Maris lying there, his face pale and bloodless, her heart ached with unbearable pain. Her hands trembled as she reached out to touch his cast-covered arm, but she hesitated, afraid she might hurt him. "How did this happen? How could this happen, Maris?" Stephen stood up and briefly explained the situation. As the anesthesia wore off, Maris slowly regained consciousness. When he saw his family around him, his eyes turned red. "Mom, dad, Stephen..." At twenty-something years old, freshly graduated, Maris had always lived recklessly. This was the first time he had ever suffered such a major loss. Just thinking about Arthur’s smug face made his blood boil. Seeing him wake up, his family immediately gathered around him. "What happened? Who did this to you?" Zane’s voice was laced with both concern and fury. He had always known that his younger son was wild, and he had warned him repeatedly not to misuse the family name for trouble. But in the end, only he had the right to discipline his son. No one else. Whoever dared to hurt Maris would pay a heavy price, no matter who they were. Maris instinctively shrank back at his father’s anger. Seeing this, Zane’s expression softened. Perhaps he had been too harsh with him in the past. His tone gentled. "Tell me, who did this to you? I’ll make sure you get justice." Hearing Zane’s rare words of comfort, Maris felt a wave of mixed emotions. Zane hardly ever spoke to him this way, yet now, it was because of this mess—one that he himself had started. In the past, the people he bullied never dared to report him because of his father’s influence. But Arthur, that outsider, had not only fought back but had even dared to call the police, blowing the whole thing up. And on top of that, Arthur actually had skills. Seeing Maris hesitate, Zane’s expression darkened, "Maris, you’re my son. No matter what, no one in Seacity has the right to do this to you. Since he dared to hurt you, he should be prepared to pay the price." Stephen added, "Maris, just tell us everything that happened. Dad and I will take care of the rest." Zoey held Maris’ uninjured hand tightly, her eyes brimming with tears, silently offering her support. Feeling the warmth of his family’s concern, Maris’ nose stung with emotion. Zane and Stephen had always scolded him for being reckless and directionless. But when it truly mattered, they stood by him without hesitation. At that moment, he felt the true warmth of family. He could no longer keep anything hidden, so he told them everything exactly as it had happened. He had wanted to cover up the fact that he was the one who started the fight, but with security cameras in the banquet hall and countless eyewitnesses, he knew he wouldn’t be able to hide the truth. After he finished speaking, the room fell into silence. Zane pressed his lips together tightly, deep in thought. Finally, after a long pause, Zane lifted his head. "Tomorrow, I’ll go to the auction myself." "Dad?" All three of them were shocked. Given his status, Zane never attended auctions or social events like this. But now, he was saying he would go in person? At the hotel, this was the second time Arthur had been taken to the police station in front of Ashley. She paced anxiously back and forth in the room, unable to sit still. She wanted to contact her father and ask for his help. After all, this wasn’t South City. In South City, Arthur had influence. But here in Seacity, he was in unfamiliar territory with no allies. Ashley was even more worried than she had been back home. Her father was in a sensitive political position at the moment, but when it came to Arthur, she couldn’t afford to care about that. Yet, Arthur had told her he could handle it himself. He didn’t want her to involve the Gibson family. With no other choice, Ashley could only wait anxiously at the hotel. As dawn approached, just as she was about to give in and call her father for help, a knock finally sounded at the door. From outside, Arthur’s voice called to her.
