Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 139 Facing the Impossible Truth

“Mr. Young, are you joking? Arthur? How could he possibly be—” They couldn’t finish the rest of their words. It was a truth they refused to acknowledge, one they didn’t dare admit. Seeing the two of them on the verge of madness, Stanley waved his hand, and his men immediately restrained them again. The rest of the Gray family was so stunned they practically questioned everything they knew. Raelynn no longer paid attention to the two who had been apprehended. Trembling, she was supported by Julie and Rosie as she made her way to Arthur and Stanley. Even her voice shook, and her throat felt painfully dry. “Arthur… is everything Mr. Young said really true?” Arthur suddenly asked, “Why is Mrs. Gray asking me? When have you ever believed a word I said?” Raelynn trembled at those words. Hearing herself addressed as "Mrs. Gray" tore at her heart. Julie no longer cared about how he addressed them. She was beyond astonished and asked again in disbelief, “Arthur, are you really the Chairman of Cloudia Corporation?” It was just too unbelievable. Julie truly couldn’t accept it, but given Stanley’s status, it was impossible for him to lie here. Arthur cast Julie a dispassionate look and said, “Didn’t I just say I was the Chairman of Cloudia Corporation? And didn’t you all refuse to believe it?” Everyone froze for a moment. Under those circumstances earlier, it would have been impossible to take him seriously when he claimed to be the Chairman of Cloudia Corporation. Zac’s eyes were bloodshot. He struggled and roared in rage, “No! That’s impossible! There’s no way Arthur could be the Chairman of Cloudia Corporation! He’s a worthless nobody! He can’t be the Chairman of Cloudia Corporation! He’s just trash!” Listening to his near-delirious rant, Stanley’s brow furrowed deeply. He cut Zac off sharply. "Why is it impossible? Two years ago, Mr. Gray acquired my company. Under his leadership and vision, Cloudia Corporation became what it is today. Everything it achieved was through Mr. Gray’s efforts. And I, Stanley, have been fortunate enough to follow him ever since. Mr. Gray did me the greatest favor—do you think I wouldn’t recognize my own boss?" The crowd erupted in astonishment as soon as he finished. Cloudia Corporation had appeared suddenly two years ago, and ever since, it had grown at an astonishing rate, landing one major project after another. In just two short years, Cloudia Corporation had become the biggest company in South City and even went public in Evergrand City. Susie, who stood behind Julie, was so astonished she couldn’t recover. Of the three sisters, she had always looked down on Arthur the most. Moments ago, she had gone all out mocking him for daydreaming. But now, Arthur had suddenly transformed into the Chairman of the illustrious and mysterious Cloudia Corporation! How could this be possible? She wanted to voice her objections, but the crowd behind her surged forward all at once. At last, everyone realized what was happening. Chairman of Cloudia Corporation! No matter who he might have been before, right now he was the Chairman of Cloudia Corporation. They all wanted to seize this chance to boost their families and their enterprises. The crowd practically went wild. They had all witnessed the Gray family’s attitude toward Arthur moments ago. Desperate to get on his good side, the onlookers shoved the Gray family members standing in front out of the way. Once the first person got physical, those behind him quickly followed suit. In their desire to make a good impression on Arthur—deliberately or not—their tactics turned increasingly rough. The two bodyguards who were holding John and Zac conveniently loosened their grip. John and Zac barely had time to ease their sore wrists before the frenzied crowd knocked into them. The Gray family members as a whole, caught in the crush, soon found themselves sprawling on the floor. Screams rose in all directions as they tried to get up, but each time they managed to lift themselves, someone immediately pushed them back down. Countless hard-soled shoes landed on them. People simply trod over them, leaving particularly heavy footprints on John and Zac. No one showed the slightest mercy beneath their feet. The Gray family had once been one of the top-ranking families in South City, but they knew that after today, they would have no chance of rising again. After all the things they had done to Arthur, there was no way the Gray family would escape unscathed. Stanley had anticipated this scene from the start, so he led a line of bodyguards to surround Arthur securely in the middle. Stanley had spent decades in South City, so he knew better than anyone the magnitude of opportunity Cloudia Corporation represented. He had already received countless invitations from people hoping to have Arthur attend banquets, but this was the only event Arthur had agreed to. Stanley scanned the crowded ballroom, noticing several young faces—many of them barely of age, with families clearly bringing along their older children. Blocked by the bodyguards, no one dared approach recklessly. Instead, they scrambled to introduce themselves to Arthur, all speaking at once. Their flattery came in a flood, each person eager to rattle off a long string of compliments.
