Stronger Every Time I Die
James looked at the couple's reaction in astonishment. The policeman shook off John's hand and said in disbelief, "Are you out of your minds? Arthur's your biological son! Your adopted son has bullied your flesh and blood for eight years! Why on earth are you trying to protect the wrong son?" What kind of parents would be desperate enough to plead for the person bullying their biological son! James was even starting to doubt who their biological son really was! Earlier, they had clearly watched the surveillance footage and said they wanted to make it up to their son. Was this how they planned to make it up to him? John, a normally commanding and confident man, now appeared like a pitiful puppy. Not willing to give in, he grabbed James' hand again and pleaded, "Detective, please show some mercy. Zac's health has always been poor and he's only sixteen. He still has his whole life ahead of him. He really can't go to jail!" John was crying uncontrollably, with tears and snot streaming down his face. James was used to seeing such desperation from the parents of victims, but here it was directed toward Zac, the perpetrator who behaved like the devil! The victim was his biological son, yet he wanted the perpetrator to be exonerated! James once again shook off John's hand and said firmly, "The law isn't merciful now that Zac's sixteen years old. He has committed the crime of assault, and we're obligated to arrest him." James led his fellow policemen toward the door. He had initially intended to have them show the way out, but this couple turned out to be so peculiar. It was fortunate that Arthur had left. If he had seen his parents behaving like this, he would have been absolutely heartbroken. Only at this point did James fully understand why Arthur, despite being in a wealthy family, could have been bullied for eight long years. With such clueless parents, he would be very pitiful. In this family, who knew how much injustice he had endured growing up? Only at this point did James fully understand why Arthur, despite being in a wealthy family, could have been bullied for eight long years. With such clueless parents, he would be very pitiful. In this family, who knew how much injustice he had endured growing up. Even after so much mistreatment, when James saw him earlier, Arthur's demeanor was calm and composed. He's truly a strong and resilient child. Just as James' team were about to step out, the kneeling John suddenly had an epiphany. He quickly got up and rushed to block the policemen's way with outstretched arms."Detective James!" he cried out. James frowned at him and said, "Mr. Gray, please don't make me charge you with obstruction of justice!" "No, please," John quickly said. "Detective, Zac isn't sixteen yet! He can't be held criminally responsible!" The policemen were stunned to hear this. Raelynn also suddenly remembered this critical detail. She immediately stopped crying and hurried over to James, pleading, "Yes, Detective! Zac isn't sixteen yet. I remember those under sixteen can't be held criminally responsible!" It was as if they had grasped their final lifeline as they firmly blocked the doorway. Although they had seen so much footage of Zac bullying Arthur, they still firmly believed that Zac must have been led astray by bad influences! Zac was so well-behaved and gentle in their eyes. They couldn't believe he would think of bullying anyone. James frowned deeply. "Zac isn't sixteen?" John nodded firmly. "Yes! His birthday's in three days. If you don't believe me, we can have someone send Zac's birth certificate for you to check." Seeing James's reaction, John and Raelynn knew they had a chance. They let out a sigh of relief. Zac wouldn't have to go to jail! Zac's health was poor and he was such a good son. They couldn't imagine how much he would suffer if he went to jail, away from their watchful eyes!" James looked at them for a long while before saying, "Although he's under sixteen, everyone over fourteen is fully capable of understanding the law. Arthur has been bullied for eight years and has the right to sue Zac." "Does that mean as long as Arthur doesn't press charges, Zac won't have to go to jail?" John quickly asked. Hearing this, even the usually unfazed James couldn't help but clench his fists. He responded firmly, "It's all up to Arthur himself. He has the right to make his own decisions." Hearing this, a slight smile appeared on their faces. This made things much easier. Although Arthur hadn't been a very obedient child, he still wouldn't dare to outright defy them.
