Her Mind Is Full of Juicy Gossip
Danielle's outburst left the two completely stunned. Mirabelle had completely forgotten about her pitiful facade, her expression contorting for a moment. However, she quickly regained her composure, whimpering, “I know you never liked me before, but you—” “Why did you become like this, Danielle? I don't even recognize you anymore,” Maverick expressed in shock. “Maybe it's because you're blind,” Danielle scoffed. She then pointed at Mirabelle and began telling Maverick about past events. “Have you forgotten? You were instantly famous once and had a chance to break into the film industry. I agreed to be your agent because I saw your potential as the male lead in that film. But what did you do? You allowed your best opportunity to slip by for a fool like her, making your path to stardom much harder and longer than it needed to be.” When Maverick heard that, there was a sudden shift in his expression. A flicker of panic also crossed Mirabelle's face. From a distance, Isabella was quick to supplement those privy to her thoughts with additional information in her mind. Oh, I see. Back in the day, there was an award-winning movie that held an open audition for rookies. Maverick, with his youthful, handsome face and raw, unadorned acting skills, coupled with his tireless spirit, successfully advanced to become a top candidate for the male lead. Moreover, he was the standout performer that year. However, just before he was to take the stage for the final round of auditions, he suddenly left, missing a golden opportunity. The role was then taken by a less impressive actor who subsequently won the best new actor award, propelling him to stardom in the film industry. His departure was prompted by a distress call from Mirabelle, who frantically reported that a fire had broken out at home and she was trapped. Tearfully, she pleaded for his help. Naturally, Maverick, driven by his love, left without a second thought to rescue her. Initially, there was nothing inherently wrong with the situation, and Danielle could only lament her unfortunate fate. She couldn't possibly blame Maverick for saving someone. However, when Danielle came to understand the sequence of events, she was so infuriated that she was left utterly bewildered. Unbelievable... To think there really are people like that! Not far from the private room, Christopher was eavesdropping intently. However, all he heard was Isabella's continuous sighs, which only served to whet his appetite even more. What happened? Isabella's thoughts continued, When a fire broke out at home, Mirabelle didn't call the fire department immediately. Instead, she persistently chose to call Maverick, not stopping until he answered. Christopher raised his eyebrow. What prompted her to do that? Isabella mused in her mind. It seems like she was seriously ill, truly believing herself to be the distressed heroine who could only wait for the hero to come to her rescue. In reality, if she had called the police right away, by the time Maverick arrived, the firefighters would have completely handled the fire. It wouldn't have spread to the upper floors at all. The couple living upstairs were elderly and light sleepers. As such, they were the ones who noticed the fire and called the emergency services. Hence, the fire truck didn't arrive until after Maverick had just returned. When the old man came down, holding his startled wife, and learned about the situation, he discovered something. He learned Mirabelle was not unconscious or in any other predicament but simply couldn't leave because the door was broken. At that moment, she was being lectured by the firefighters. After all, if she had contacted the firefighters immediately, based on the timeline, even their living room wouldn't have been completely burnt. Furious, the old man went straight up to her and started cussing her out and even suggesting she might need to be committed to a psychiatric hospital. Mirabelle simply sobbed uncontrollably, taking refuge in Maverick's arms. She expressed that she had been utterly terrified at the time, unable to think of anything else but her desire for Maverick to come to her rescue. Christopher was utterly baffled upon listening to that, responding bluntly, “What a lunatic!” The whole table turned to look at him silently. He awkwardly pointed to his phone and stammered, “I... I was just checking my messages.” He then cast a peculiar glance at Hendrick, wondering how the latter could have taken a liking to such a scatterbrained woman. Does he have an interest in collecting idols? Isabella's thoughts continued, When Danielle learned the truth, she was so furious that she wished she could stride over and slap Mirabelle twice. I wonder how Danielle could possibly resist not doing so. This... I can feel my dislike for stupidity flaring up.“Isn't it normal for others to dislike people like you?” Danielle said with disgust. “Sometimes, I really suspect you're doing it on purpose.” Mirabelle's eyes were immediately filled with panic. She promptly shook her head, crying even harder than before. Huh? Wait... How come there is more happening behind the fire? Let's see... Holy crap... Mirabelle wasn't actually stupid. Danielle was right all along. Mirabelle did it on purpose. She was swayed by half a million, exploiting Maverick's love-struck mindset to sell out his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change his destiny and make him withdraw from the selection. The person who paid her off turned out to be her later silver-spooned boyfriend. That's how they got to know each other! Wow, such a well-kept secret! It seems even Danielle had no idea about this! No doubt Maverick must have been even more in the dark about this matter, thought Isabella. Christopher was taken aback by what Isabella revealed in her mind, completely caught off guard by that huge revelation. He quickly asked the know-it-all beside him in a hushed voice, “Hayden, do you remember who the capitalist behind Oscar was?” Hayden didn't understand why Christopher suddenly asked that, but he still answered, “Graham Group.” “Who was Mirabelle's silver-spooned ex?” “It's the second young master of the Lynch family. What's the matter?” Immediately, Christopher sent a message to Alexander, inquiring if there was any connection between the two families. Alexander fell silent as he looked at the message. Don't they have a get-together tonight? Hmm, wait, it's likely that Isabella had stumbled upon some juicy gossip again. Then, he typed: There isn't really any relationship between them. The younger generations of the families used to hang out all the time a few years back, but due to various disagreements, they eventually fell out. Therefore, even if Danielle and Maverick had the ability, they couldn't discover what really happened back then.Christopher silently sympathized with Maverick because of how terribly the latter had been deceived. “Enough already.” Maverick couldn't help but interrupt. “The fire from years ago wasn't something anyone could control. She was simply terrified, that's all.” He was a real man, so he wouldn't blame a woman at the first sign of trouble. He didn't find any issue with Mirabelle relying on him so much back then. “Bringing up the past is pointless.” Goodness, I just can't find it in me to feel sorry. If the day ever comes when the truth is revealed, let's see if he can resist not bringing up the past, sneered Isabella in her mind. Danielle spat, “Is the only thing you can recall her leaving you? Why is it that after only a few intimate encounters, you're ready to go back to her? Maverick, you're pathetic!” Isabella felt great hearing that. Danielle was relentless in her mockery, continually tearing open old wounds, likely in an attempt to give Maverick a harsh reality check. Maverick was tormented. He was unable to admit that he couldn't let go of the woman who had betrayed him because doing so would be akin to confessing he was a fool. However, upon meeting Mirabelle again and spending more time together with her, he genuinely couldn't help but care about her. He knew his feelings for Mirabelle were a mix of love and resentment, while he felt a blend of respect and guilt toward Danielle. Thus, despite his firm decision to marry Danielle, he found himself unable to resist the urge to be close to Mirabelle. He was frustrated and blamed himself, yet he allowed himself to succumb to his desires and self-destruction. Maverick wore a pained expression. “I haven't forgotten. Rest assured, I will never forget the humiliation she brought me. All right, Dani, don't be upset anymore. Let's go home. I... I promise I won't have anything to do with her in the future...” It seemed as if Maverick had made a decision, yet the moment he turned to face Mirabelle's pale face, his heart ached intensely. Seeing her appear unsteady as if she was about to collapse, he couldn't help but reach out to support her. However, Mirabelle evaded his touch. Mirabelle's gaze was filled with boundless sorrow. Just then, a voice echoed from afar, startling Isabella, who was hiding in the private room. She quickly shut the door, but from the corner of her eye, she still managed to see a young woman rushing over, supporting Mirabelle. “Maverick, you're heartless! You've let Mira down, you jerk!” the young woman shouted crazily.
