Her Mind Is Full of Juicy Gossip

Chapter 17 Pretentious Woman

Upon hearing Isabella's string of complaints, Alexander noticed that Christopher had stopped in his tracks. He looked like he had seen a ghost. Alexander immediately understood what was going on. Before Christopher could speak, Alexander intervened, “Chris, stay here and help me entertain the guests.” Alexander's tone was heavy. Although it was not quite a command, it instinctively drew attention away from the previous topic. “Let me assist Bianca inside first, she's having trouble moving...” Before Christopher could finish, the disruptive voice surfaced again. Is he stupid? She has her parents and sister right there! It's not his turn to lend her a hand. Even if he is her boyfriend, there's no need for him to keep insisting. Not to mention how awkward their relationship status is right now. Alexander is clearly trying to remind him that his actions are inappropriate. Is he so in love that he can't understand it? It must be. Otherwise, he wouldn't have attacked Luna blindly just now. Christopher was stunned by the torrent of insults hurled at him. Instantly, embarrassment and anger welled up within him. He quickly turned to Isabella and yelled angrily, “You...” “Huh?” Isabella was puzzled. Isabella thought Christopher was trying to greet her although his tone didn't sound too pleasant. However, based on Isabella's memory, she indeed didn't get along with the hot-tempered Christopher. Since young, Christopher had always admired Alexander. However, due to Alexander's marriage, Christopher harbored strong resentment toward Isabella, who was of a similar age. Despite both working in the entertainment industry, Christopher had no intention of supporting Isabella in any way. He even refused to address her as his sister-in-law in public or private. However, Christopher had never directly confronted Isabella out of respect for his brother.Christopher hadn't expected that Isabella would actually dare to think of him like that. “Chris?” Bianca whispered, puzzled by his sudden halt. Since she couldn't tell that Christopher was glaring at Isabella from her point of view, she assumed that he was looking at Luna, who was standing next to Isabella. Bianca instantly felt aggrieved. Biting her lower lip, she gently shoved Christopher away and said, “Chris, you should accompany Luna. I'll be fine on my own.” Luna had kept her mouth shut, but upon hearing that, she couldn't help pointing out, “Mr. Alexander was the one who asked Mr. Christopher to stay and help him entertain the guests. Why am I being dragged into this?” Bianca was momentarily stunned. Her eyes widened in shock as she looked at Luna. Then, her eyes welled up with tears as if she was overwhelmed with injustice. “What kind of attitude is this? You really enjoy picking on your sister, don't you? We shouldn't have brought you along!” Henry and Marjorie defended Bianca instantly. Meanwhile, oblivious to Bianca's tearful expression, Christopher turned his head and met Luna's cold gaze. Wait a minute. Did she just refer to me as Mr. Christopher? Didn't she always call me Christopher? A peculiar feeling of discomfort inexplicably arose within Christopher, only to be interrupted by a certain voice. I can't stand this any longer. I may not know Luna very well, but this is it. “Earlier, my husband only requested for Christopher to stay. He didn't mention Luna. Is there any particular reason you brought that up?” Isabella's tone was not accusatory, but rather one of genuine curiosity and a desire to understand, which often proved to be an effective approach. When Isabella posed the question, everyone present fell silent. A strange and eerie atmosphere settled over the party, and many people began to see the situation in a new light.Yeah, where did that suddenly come from? It was one thing to have Christopher stay behind to entertain the guests, but surely they couldn't expect Luna to do the same. Yet, somehow, in Bianca's version of events, it had turned into Christopher keeping company with Luna. How did that happen? Henry and Marjorie were quick to come to Bianca's defense because they instinctively felt that Isabella bore ill will toward Bianca. They were ready to refute Isabella when Alexander unexpectedly interjected, “Perhaps there has been a misunderstanding. I did indeed only mention my brother.” Then, he glanced at Isabella, who looked like she was eager to start an argument. He was pleased by how she had used the term 'husband' rather than 'ex-husband'. Their unspoken understanding left Bianca flushing with embarrassment and momentarily speechless. She could only look at Christopher with a helpless and innocent expression. Christopher was also dumbfounded. “Moreover, your sister was merely correcting your statement earlier. Why are you acting as if she bullied you? It's not as if you've been wronged. Having your father scold your sister publicly puts us in a difficult position. As hosts, is there any conflict we can help resolve?” Isabella said as she swept her gaze from Bianca to the Cowells. Bianca, who had always had an easy and advantageous life, seemed to have taken an unexpected stumble. She froze and said nothing. The Cowells were left dumbfounded as well as they were unable to comprehend how things had taken such a turn. They looked toward Alexander with a stunned expression. “Are we not hospitable enough?” Alexander asked, his face void of expression. The Cowells found themselves in an awkward predicament. They wanted to lash out at Luna instinctively, but recalling what happened just now, they found themselves unable to vent their frustrations. The very next moment, Isabella smiled warmly at Bianca and spoke to her friendly. “By the way, there was something off about what you just said. What do you mean by letting Christopher accompany Luna, and saying that you can handle it on your own? You shouldn't say such things.” The people around were taken aback. Did Isabella's words imply that she was acknowledging that Christopher and Bianca were a couple on behalf of the Quirk family? Was he advising Bianca to stop belittling herself? In that instant, Bianca had forgotten about their recent conflict. Her eyes were filled with a certain anticipation as she looked at Isabella. Immediately, Isabella earnestly advised, “Your parents are right here, alive and well. How can you overlook them? If all else fails, your sister is here too! They will never leave on your own!” On my own... That's not what I meant. The expressions of the onlookers shifted again. Eventually, someone in the crowd couldn't help but voice out, “Isn't she just being pretentious?” “I... I'm not!” Bianca finally lost her composure, her eyes brimming with tears. Just as she was about to say something, Isabella patted her on the shoulder, stopping her from crying. Isabella comforted, “It's good that you've realized you're not completely on your own here.” Bianca's face instantly turned red. Haha! This pretentious woman is too naive. Her words lack so much logic that it makes it easy for others to spot her flaws. Maybe it's because everyone around her spoils her too much, leading her to believe that she can get away with anything. But sorry, darling, I am an expert when it comes to dealing with pretentious people! Christopher looked around him in shock. What on earth had just happened? Isabella did as she pleased, knowing fully well that Alexander would handle the situation afterward. Just as Bianca was about to put on a tearful performance to salvage the situation, Alexander abruptly ended the confrontation with a polite gesture of invitation. Despite feeling a mix of confusion and anger, the Cowells suppressed their feelings and reluctantly led Bianca into the hall. Trailing behind them, Luna glanced back at Isabella and the others before leaving, her eyes reflecting a trace of bewildered emotion. It seemed like she was encountering such a situation for the first time and didn't know how to react. Once everyone had left, Christopher finally asked, “What were you all doing just now? Bianca is so innocent. She surely didn't do it on purpose. She just misspoke. Why did you have to embarrass her like that?” In Christopher's perspective, he and Bianca were star-crossed lovers obstructed by his existing engagement with Luna. Bianca's occasional insecurity and mistakes were understandable. “Are you saying that Luna deserves to be humiliated when she didn't do anything?” Isabella asked in a curious tone. Christopher was momentarily stumped. “Luna often makes Bianca cry. One moment of embarrassment for her is no big deal!” he defended. Isabella looked at Christopher in surprise, then quickly turned to glance at Alexander. Is he really Alexander's biological brother? Alexander couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed when he heard Isabella's inner thoughts because Christopher was indeed his younger brother. Alexander looked at Christopher with dissatisfaction. “Chris, our parents had always taught us to focus on the issue and not be biased toward the person involved. You may have your biases, but you should understand the importance of being objective.”Despite being in his twenties, Christopher couldn't help but flinch when Alexander reprimanded him. He obediently listened, though his eyes showed indignance. Is he really that clueless, or does the Quirks have a thing for pretentious women? A few fake tears shed, and he falls for it. Did he get all his acting awards because the Quirks paid for them? How can he not see that she's acting? “Hey, you...” Christopher could no longer hold back. Oh no, he's so smitten with that pretentious woman. What if he ends up marrying her? I bet the Quirk manor will turn into a constant drama scene. I'm not afraid, but it's going to be incredibly annoying. I'd rather not have such a sister-in-law. Maybe I should find a way to get Alexander to divorce me sooner. Christopher was left speechless by what he had heard. He stared at his brother in astonishment. This woman, who had stubbornly insisted on marrying my brother, is actually thinking about divorce? Hold on, what exactly have I heard? Alexander's mouth twitched. Clearing his throat, he interrupted Isabella's wild thoughts and said, “Leave the guests to me and Chris. You can go in.” Isabella immediately nodded in agreement. Awesome! Time for me to go in and enjoy the show. As Christopher watched Isabella retreating cheerfully, he pressed his trembling fingers against his temples and glanced at Alexander with a questioning look in his eyes. Alexander didn't beat around the bush. He took advantage of the moment when no guests were present to disclose Isabella's situation. Christopher froze for quite a while before he finally said, “Should we get a psychologist for our entire family? No, we should probably call in a priest...” Alexander sternly dismissed Christopher's idea. Pouting, Christopher curiously asked, “So, she really knows everything?”Alexander replied, “She can find out everything she wants to know for now.” “Ha. Is she the most formidable paparazzo in the entertainment industry?” Christopher remained skeptical. Alexander's gaze flickered as he changed the topic. “Are you planning to amend your betrothal today?” Christopher hesitated for a moment before responding, “Yes, but don't worry. I won't ruin my little nephew's welcome party. I've spoken to the Cowells and asked them to stay after the party ends so that our two families can discuss it privately.” Alexander nodded in agreement. “No one is going to object, right?” Christopher asked cautiously. “Are you certain that it's Bianca you want, not Luna?” Alexander asked. The memory of Luna's gaze flashed through Christopher's mind, causing a pang of discomfort within him. However, he said, “Of course, Bianca is too delicate. She needs my protection. On the other hand, Luna is jealous of Bianca and treats her poorly. I don't like her behavior.” Despite his words, he couldn't shake the uneasy feeling when he noticed the lack of reaction on Alexander's face. Christopher continued, “You have no idea how much Bianca has suffered because of their identical faces. I...” Alexander interrupted directly, “You're responsible for your own life. The decision is yours.” Taken aback, Christopher let out a somewhat defiant grunt before turning away. Through the floor-to-ceiling glass of the reception hall, he saw Luna, who was in a black dress, standing alone in a corner amidst the lively crowd. Looking down at the wine glass in her hand, she appeared to be lost in thought. Suddenly, she looked up and stared out of the window. Instinctively, Christopher averted his gaze.Even though the annulment of their engagement was imminent, why was his heart inexplicably pounding?
