My Best Friend’s Brother Was Never Supposed to Taste Me
♡ Mia's pov ♡ It has been a couple of days now since my miscarriage. And Kade had kept to his word by being there for me. He was here with me and never gave me a break actually. But that was okay because I actually needed his comfort, his presence, it just felt right to have him here. To have him hold me. To whisper how much he loved me. To reassure me that I will be okay. That we will be okay. Every day, it seems to be getting better and better. Until I start to feel lighter. Until I start to not feel guilty about what happened. It wasn't my fault. It wasn't Kade's. It wasn't anyone's. It just happened, and I had to accept that. The loss would always be with me, that was something I'd always remember. But I knew the pain of it will lessen in time until I won't feel pain anymore. Today was Sunday and tomorrow I was supposed to go back to school. I still didn't want to face anyone or see pitying stares, but I'd have to deal with them eventually. I couldn't hide away forever. Besides Kade would be by my side and so will Colby. I didn't care about anyone else or their stares, as long as I have those two guys by my side and my parents, also Austin occasionally, I'm okay with it. - I make my way down the stairs, flinching when the front door bursts open suddenly. Mom enters through, a small flower pot in her hand. The flower looks to be a white rose. She noticed me and she beams. "Good you're here! Where's Kade we can't do this without him." I lifted a brow as I make my way down the remaining steps. What the hell was going on? "He's upstairs, getting dressed- "Don't look at me like that mom, he just had a shower, it's nothing you're thinking of. Besides I don't think we can ever do that again anytime soon." I said dryly. Honestly, Kade and I have refrained from touching each other sexually. We just weren't ready for that yet. Maybe later in the future when I'm not paranoid about getting pregnant again and having a miscarriage. I still needed to heal from the trauma. Mom's eyes crossed funnily as she denied. "What look? I didn't give you a look." I rolled my eyes, snorting when I reach beside her. I nudged my chin to the rose plant. "What's with the plant?" I asked, staring at how green and pretty the leaves are. Mom smiled. "You'll find out when Kade gets here." Lifting her head slightly, she shouted. "Kade! Get your butt down here!" The day after that dinner where I was undoubtedly out of line, I went to apologize to my parents straight away. The sun had barely opened its eyes yet when I stormed into their room and apologized for the way I spoke to them. I was being.....a bitch. There's nothing else that can explain how I had been. They were trying to help and I was pushing them away by using angry words that should have never tumbled out of my mouth. I'm happy they laughed it out and forgave me. "Are you starting your own little flower garden? Was it because of our neighbor's currently blooming sunflowers?" I crossed my arms under my chest. Sometimes mom can be a little competitive. "This has nothing to do with our neighbor's yard. Now stop with the questions. I'll tell you when Kade gets down here- She lifted her head again to yell for Kade. "At this point, I'll get permanent eardrum damage if you keep going at it with your lungs. " I winced, stepping away from her a little. She waved a hand nonchalantly. "Oh stop being so dramatic Mia. Go get your brother in the living room, he's been playing video games since morning. And then meet me outside with Kade and Austin. Your dad is already waiting for me." She says and turns on her heel. I grew suspicious. What are my parents up to?Before she walks out the door, she shouts over her shoulder. "We'll be in the backyard by the way!" Before she disappeared out of the door, I yelled after her. "I'm suspicious by the way!" She laughs on her way out. Narrowing my eyes on the door, I contemplated if to actually go see what they were up to or go do what she told me to do. Being the good daughter that I am, I shook my head slightly and made my way to the living room where I can hear swords and grunting. "Hey Austin!" I yelled, walking closer to him so he'd hear me. He groans and turns around to spare me his attention. "What?" He asked with impatience. He swept his attention back to his game, seeming to have lost interest in what I had to say already. I rolled my eyes. "Austin!" I called out to him, tempted to pull the controller out of his hands. But I stopped because I was in no mood to fight over a stupid controller. "I'm listening!" He huffed, yet still kept his gaze on the television. Biting my cheek to stop from arguing with him, I said tightly. "Mom wants us in the backyard. Before you ask, no I'd don't know for what." He pauses his game, puts down the controller, and turns to look at me over his shoulder. "What for?" He asked, brows knitting in confusion. Did I not just tell him I didn't know? I'm about to answer him, but footsteps descending the stairs made me stop. Kade enters the living room. I feel my breath hitch when my eyes fall on his naked upper body. He hadn't put on his shirt yet, and even though I was not ready to tangle in his sheets as yet, I could still admire such a pleasing sight. Looking around Austin and me in confusion, Kade asked while putting on his black shirt. "Did I not hear someone call me down here? " I nodded as he made his way over to me. "My mom. Apparently, she wants everyone out in the backyard. Not sure what she and dad are up to." Kade kissed my forehead, making my chest warm. "Did you have lunch yet?" He asked, tangling his fingers in my hair and gives another kiss on my forehead as though he couldn't help himself. He only left me for ten minutes to have a shower, he expects me to eat my lunch already? I bit the inside of my cheek to stop from laughing. "No. Not yet- I sighed when he gives me a pointed look. Kade was hell bent on making sure I ate on time. "I'll get something to eat when we go check out what my mom is up to," I promised. I wasn't that hungry but I'd eat something to please him. He was after all just trying to take care of me. It wasn't his job to, but apparently Kade can't take no for an answer. I'll admit, his attention was rather heart warming. Don't get me wrong, he always treated me like a princess, he was always caring but he always had to keep it at a minimum so it wouldn't give away what was going on between us. Now he was more open about it, he didn't care any longer about what others would think if they saw us. "That's disgusting." Austin puts out his tongue in a disgusted manner. "You can do way better Kade, Mia farts in her sleep." Austin snorted while moving off the sofa. Kade swings his arm over my shoulder, pulling me closer to his body. Kissing my head, he says. "There's no one better than Mia. No one else can compare to her." His voice is filled with honesty. "She's perfect for me. I don't want anyone else." He murmurs into my ear and kisses my cheek. Turning to Austin who still had his disgusted face on, he laughs. "Now come on bud, let's go see what your mom and dad are up to." __ "Mom, dad...what's going on?" I looked at my parents in puzzlement. Dad had a shovel and was currently digging a hole. And mom, well she was patiently waiting for us to arrive with her hand on her hips. "Took you guys long enough." She huffed. "Are we about to bury a dead body?! So cool!" Austin suddenly yelled. "Austin!" Mom gapped, looking around in fear that one of the neighbors had heard him."You seem to be blind to the flower pot in her hand," I said dryly while pointing at the white rose. "Shut it Mia, always here to spoil the fun," Austin grumbles, clearly upset that we weren't about to bury a dead body. I blame the stupid video games he plays. "Is this deep enough?" Dad asked mom as he removed the shovel from the hole. Mom nods and grinned at her husband. "It's perfect baby." Did mom seriously bring us out here to watch her and dad plant a flower? As if knowing I'd ask another question mom turns to us, well me specifically, and utters. " I know the wound is still fresh and I know that you'll always remember the pain you went through Mia. But we want to make this a beautiful memory for you." My heart thuds. "Which is why we bought a white rose. We want you to plant it into the earth, care for it and make it beautiful. This will serve as a memory for a life that you may have lost in the physical world but will always remain here," She points at her chest. She looks down at the white rose blooming on one of the branches and whispered. "White roses can symbolize many things. Love, purity, innocence, eternity. But what it means will be up to you Mia." Lifting her head, I notice the tears in her eyes. Mine were already trailing down my cheeks. "Did you guys plan this?" I whispered shakily and looked at Kade and then my parents. Kade's lips lifted in a shy smile. "Surprise?" He whispered. I can't believe he acted like he didn't know what was going on so they could surprise me. I smiled through my tears and finally confessed something that was way long overdue. "I love you." Kade visibly sucks in a sharp breath and seems to have stopped breathing for a little before he whispered back, huskily. "I love you, Mia. For eternity."
