My Best Friend’s Brother Was Never Supposed to Taste Me
♡ Mia's pov ♡ I had that stupid giddy smile on my face the entire ride to Colby's. Kade had finally said my name. That counted for something right? He wasn't so cold anymore. My eyes draw to Colby's house. When will he emerge out? I tugged at the ends of the dress again for what felt like the twentieth time. Even with Kade's blatant warning ringing in my head, I still chose to wear the dress. It gave me a reaction from Kade, one I had been wanting from the moment he got here. Call me stupid, but I wanted to see how much more reaction I can get from him tonight. This felt like a fun game that I would hopefully win. He was different tonight. The way his voice took a sudden edge. Like he was holding himself back from doing something that would get us both in trouble. I swore I saw the flash of hunger in his eyes when they dipped to my cleavage. These were dangerous waters we were playing with. But I couldn't just shut off the sudden craving I had for him. Colby finally emerged, walking so quickly that it would've been mistaken as a sprint. Getting into the car he turns to me. "Drive!" He blasted. I peeked behind him and noticed Miss San running over to the car with a flip flop in her grasp. "Colby what did you do?" Miss San was Colby's mom. Colby looked at his approaching mother in fear. "She found out I was the one who ate her last slice of cheesecake. Now Drive!" Shaking my head at my dumb best friend I sped down the road, not before waving at an angered Miss San. "You got to stop eating her cheesecake Colb. I fear I'll hear the news of you being murdered by your own mother," Colby scoffed, securing the seat belt around him. "Then I'll die a happy man with cheesecake in my belly," When he feels that there was no more fixing he had to do, he turns to me. I could feel his eyes swoop down the length of me. He whistles. "Damn Mia. You're fucking hot. Like bangable hot. I'm telling you, Brian's going to have a hard on the entire night," I took one hand off the steering wheel and sweep it through my strands while cringing. I didn't want Brian to have a hard on. I wanted Kade to have a hard on."Know the way to the beach house? Cause I'm warning you, we might get lost," I said, hoping this would change the subject from Brian. It was bad enough I had those feelings for Kade, I didn't want to feel guilty for keeping it from Colby. Colby snorts. "We won't. I got directions from thee Stanly Roald. So we're good and won't get eaten by wild boars." Thirty minutes later and we're pulling up to a very huge beach house. It was night so it made it a little difficult to see the color of the painted wood properly or maybe I just needed glasses. Colby's mouth is wide open as he bends to look up at the house before us. "Holy fuck. That's Brian's parent's beach house? Do they own half the state?" I pressed my lips together as I looked for a perfect parking spot. I needed a good parking space where I can drive away quickly if I need to. Spotting one, I drove there and parked. Turning off the engine and pulling out the key from the ignition, I turn to Colby. "Okay we need to be out of here before ten tonight. No later than that, got it?" Colby looked at me dryly. "Okay mom." "I'm serious Colby. My dad will kill me if I'm later than that." Colby huffs. "Fine. Now can we go?" I stared at the house then nodded. I turn around to grab the sweater from the backseat I had thrown it on. Getting out of the car, I tied the arms of the sweater around my waist so the rest could cover my butt. I started walking towards the house and Colby starts laughing. "Babe. I said to use the sweater so your mom won't argue not to use it here. And why did you wear your converse with the dress?" I turn to give him an annoyed glance. "Did you expect me to walk with heels in sand Colby? Where do you think that bonfire will take place? Outside, by the beach dumbass," Colby pouts. "Did you have to be mean to me?" Rolling my eyes I ignored him and continued to the front door. It was quiet, for supposedly having a bonfire going on. But maybe that had to do with everyone perhaps by the beach and not in the house. Before my fist collided with the door, I turn to Colby. "Are you sure I'm not overdressed for a bonfire?" Maybe I shouldn't try to rile up Kade and go home. This doesn't feel like my thing. And I wasn't comfortable in the dress even though I wore my converse to feel a little like myself."Are you kidding? You look fi- The door is suddenly thrust open and a beaming Brian gleams down at me. "Welcome to my beach house senorita," He opens his arm and steps aside. How the hell did he know I was at the door? Seeming to catch my confused features, he motions to a camera higher up the door that I hadn't noticed until now. Suddenly a smaller body fits her way through her brother's arms. "It's our house." She grunted at her brother before facing me. "I'm so happy you came Mia. I'm so happy to see you're coming out of your shell," She grins, weaving her arm through mine and all but tugged me into the house. "Wait but- I turn to look back at Colby who only gave me a thumbs up. Sighing in defeat, I let the petite girl drag me. Why was she acting so nice to me when she's never spoken more than three sentences to me before? "Everyone's by the fire on the beach. You drink beer right?" She chirps turning to me. Tongue tied, I only shook my head no. "There's vodka if you don't drink beer," She grins. For a small girl, she's able to tug me like I weigh nothing. "Is there anything other than alcohol?" I asked as I'm pulled towards opened sliding doors that led to the stairs leading to the soft sand. From here I could see the glowing light of the fire. Brianna's brows furrow, as if not comprehending my question properly. Was I speaking in riddles? "Like what?" She asked. "Like water?" I question unsurely. I mean, there must have water right? How else would they put out that fire if it gets out of hand? Her pretty features completely shifts like someone who's gobsmacked. "You're planning to drink water?" The way she said water, seemed as though she was spitting out the word. What the hell did H2o ever do to her? Looking away from her awkwardly yet being tugged without my will, I looked at the mass of teenagers dancing and sitting beside the fire. My shoes sank deeper and deeper into the sand as we neared. Their voices grew, their pitches going higher than necessary and I wished I didn't agree to come here. But then suddenly, I felt a heavy gaze and my eyes draw towards the logs around the fire. Kade. His elbows on his knees as he sat on the log. His eyes though, were set on me, or should I say my dress. They were burning with anger. And in that moment, I knew I shouldn't have tried to provoke him.
