The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 720 Meeting the Director

"I'll inform your agent about the details. You go ahead and get busy," I said calmly. Naomi nodded quickly and hummed a cheerful tune, clearly in a great mood. "Wait a second," I called out to her just as she was about to leave. "Has Jasper arrived at the company today?" I asked. Naomi tapped her chin, thinking seriously. "Jasper? Oh, I ran into him this morning. Are you looking for him?" I nodded. "Could you help me call him over?" Naomi agreed readily. Not long after she left, Jasper knocked on my office door and stepped inside. "You were looking for me?" Jasper asked. Lifting my gaze, I handed him a folder. "No rush on this, but your ongoing performance with Naomi requires a memorable closing number, and I think you're just the voice for it." Jasper paused for a moment but still accepted the folder and looked down at it. "I thought we were hiring a professional singer? Why the sudden change?" "We couldn't settle on the payment," I explained directly without hiding anything. We had originally lined up a fairly popular online singer with a few viral hits, but after meeting in person, it turned out they had an unbearable attitude despite their friendly public persona. It was just another reminder that in the entertainment industry, people wore countless masks, and it was impossible to know which face was real. "Is the song still written by that person?" Jasper asked, glancing at the credits on the lyric sheet. "We bought the rights to the song earlier. It's just that when it came time to record, the singer suddenly raised their price. It doesn't affect anything else. Get ready today—you might be recording in the next couple of days." "Got it," Jasper nodded. However, instead of leaving immediately as expected, he stood there, lingering in the office. Noticing his gaze on me, I looked up. Jasper hesitated before speaking. "About Naomi's situation ... should I—"I immediately understood what he was referring to and shook my head firmly. "You stay out of it." Jasper nodded. "If anything happens, you can always tell me." His tone was particularly serious. I didn't read too much into it and just smiled at him. "What's with you today? Getting all solemn." Jasper blinked, as if realizing it himself. "Just thinking about the company's best interests." "If you really care about the company, go practice your singing properly. I don't want to see a trending topic about the great actor Jasper going off-key during recording," I teased. Jasper chuckled helplessly, gave me a deep look, and then turned to leave. Still preoccupied with Naomi's situation, I immediately contacted Ambrose. To my surprise, he didn't agree to anything right away. Instead, he requested to meet Naomi in person. Naturally, I agreed. After settling the time and place with Ambrose, I passed the news on to Naomi. Naomi had just wrapped up filming a commercial and was in the dressing room, getting her makeup touched up. The instant she answered my call, her excitement burst through the phone. "Wait, what? Mr. Pearson wants to meet me?" "Seriously. Would I tease you about something like this?" I replied, a chuckle escaping me. "When? Where?" Her voice was suddenly a flurry of panic. "Hold your horses. Tonight. I'll send the details to your agent. Just head over after you're done with your day," I said calmly. "Just me and the director?" she asked, her nervousness palpable. I chuckled softly. "Of course not, silly. I'll be there with you." A sniffle came through the line. "Rosaline, what do I do? Just the thought of meeting Mr. Pearson in person is making me so anxious." A soft laugh escaped me, and I was about to reassure her when a knock sounded on my office door. "Come in," I called out. My assistant entered, a strange expression on her face. I looked at her, puzzled, and asked, "What's wrong?" "Ms. Sinclair, there's a phone call for you," the assistant said in a low voice."If it's a call for me, just answer it. Who's calling?" "He said his name is Connor Horton." At the mention of that name, I immediately straightened up. "What? The caller said his name is Connor Horton?" Startled by the sharpness in my voice, the assistant took a step back before nodding to confirm. I frowned deeply, feeling uneasy. Why would Connor be calling me at a time like this? Even with that question nagging at me, I still instructed my assistant to put the call through. I didn't speak immediately after picking up. Instead, I waited silently for the other side to make a move. Perhaps Connor had the same thought. After a long silence between us, he finally spoke first. "It's been a while, Ms. Sinclair."
