The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 590 Apologize

"What?" I raised an eyebrow, puzzled. I hadn't had much interaction with Michael these past few days, so I didn't understand why he was suddenly apologizing. Michael was silent for a moment before finally speaking. "I found out what Wendy did last time. The situation at the Golden Crane Hotel went too far. I didn't do a good job keeping her in check, and I know it caused trouble for you and Mr. Holbrook. So I'm here today to apologize on her behalf—and on mine. I hope you'll forgive us." He looked genuinely remorseful, though still a little uneasy. "She's always been spoiled by me and doesn't know how to behave. I just hope this won't affect our partnership." So that was what this was about. The polite smile on my lips gradually faded. This wasn't the first time Wendy had come after me. I'd known from the beginning, and I'd clashed with her more than once. And now she was sending her brother to apologize on her behalf—again—playing the "poor, clueless girl" card. Honestly, I started to wonder if Wendy had even the slightest sense of decency left. "If that's how you want to handle it," I said, lifting my chin slightly and meeting Michael's eyes, "then let's talk about it. I know Wendy likes Caden. And I also know she's targeted me more than once because of him. But the Eclipse Pack and the Wild Pack have a long history, and now that we're working together, I don't want to make things ugly between our packs. That said ... " I took a deep breath. "You can't excuse everything with 'she didn't know better'. I hope, while you continue to care for her, you also start teaching her the difference between what's acceptable and what's not." I didn't lash out, but I was direct enough. I could see Michael was uncomfortable—nervous, even. He rubbed his hands together, clearly uneasy. "Of course. I'll talk to her. I'll make sure she stops bothering you and Mr. Holbrook. And I meant what I said earlier. I hope you can understand. Business is business." I nodded. I knew how to keep work and personal matters separate. Wendy had crossed the line more than once, but Michael's apology seemed sincere. And as the heir to the Wild Pack, he clearly understood that if Wendy stirred up any more trouble, it wouldn't just embarrass her—it would reflect poorly on the whole pack. "Don't worry. Work is work. Since you're putting your trust in us, Starplay Entertainment won't let you down. Now, let's focus on the script. We can deal with the rest later—I trust you'll handle it." Michael visibly relaxed and let out a breath of relief. "Thank you. Really." Caden's POV: At 5 p.m. sharp, I clocked out for the day. I was planning to pick up Rosaline so we could head home together. I'd even reserved a candlelit dinner at a Fostra cuisine restaurant owned by a friend—thought I'd surprise her. But what I walked into was something else entirely ... "Ms. Sinclair, I'll be counting on you," came Michael's voice from inside her office. The door was slightly ajar. "Don't worry," Rosaline replied calmly. "We'll do our best to meet your expectations. And if the show performs well, I hope we can continue working together." Just then, the door opened, and the two of them stepped out—only to run into me, standing there with a cold, unreadable expression. Michael looked a little awkward when he saw me. He half-turned to glance at Rosaline, then smiled politely and said, "Mr. Holbrook, here to pick up Ms. Sinclair? I won't keep you then. I'll take my leave." "Goodbye," I said flatly, barely acknowledging him. My eyes stayed on Rosaline the entire time, not even giving Michael the courtesy of a second glance. Once Michael was out of sight, Rosaline walked over to me and gently touched the space between my brows. "Enough," she said softly. "Why are you frowning again? You trying to start something?" I sighed. I had no defenses when it came to her. I pushed down the sour feeling in my chest—jealousy, mostly—and asked, "Why was Michael here again? What did he say?" "Nothing serious," she said, shaking her head. "He came to apologize—about Wendy. Did you go talk to him? And he also brought up the film project the Wild Pack wants us to work on." I let out a dry laugh and took her hand as we walked out of the building. "At least he's smart enough to take a hint. Yeah, I had a word with him. Told him to keep Wendy in line. But enough about that—I made a reservation at a friend's restaurant. Let's go eat."
