The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 380 The End of the Month

I remained silent. What were these two talking about? Couldn't they change the subject? Pretending I hadn't heard a thing, I lowered my head and focused on taking Richard's pulse. A few minutes later, I gently set his hand down and let out a long breath. "Mr. Richard, your pulse is steady. Other than being physically weak from this prolonged illness, there's nothing major to worry about. It's nothing that proper care and rest won't fix." "Rosie, you've worked so hard for me." Richard took my hand, sighing with emotion. I held his hand and smiled. "This isn't hard at all. Don't worry, Mr. Richard. As long as I'm here, I'll make sure you live a long and healthy life." "Longevity isn't what I'm aiming for," Richard chuckled, stroking his beard. "What I truly want is to see you and Caden get married and give me a great-grandson before I go." Then, as if worried I'd misunderstand, he quickly added, "A great-granddaughter would be just as wonderful!" I felt my face heat up. "Mr. Richard, isn't it a little too soon for that?" "It's not too soon at all." Caden took a step closer, looking down at me with a serious expression. "I can't wait a second longer." I wanted to disappear. Could we please stop talking about this? This was beyond embarrassing. As soon as marriage was mentioned, Leslie chimed in with a pleased expression. "Mr. Richard, their wedding is approaching fast! I've been checking dates, and there's a blessed day at the end of this month—perfect for their engagement!" The moment Leslie brought up the engagement, Richard practically beamed with joy. "That's wonderful! Once they're engaged, the wedding won't be far behind." I instinctively glanced at Caden, only to meet his affectionate gaze. "Rosie, leave the engagement arrangements to us," Richard reassured me. "You don't need to worry about anything." "I understand." I knew that the last time, when our engagement had been abruptly called off in public, it must have left a shadow in his heart. "This time, we'll handle things properly." But just as I finished speaking, I caught a glimpse of a figure outside the door, slipping away in an instant. "Alpha, that was Heidi. She was eavesdropping just now," Freya's calm voice echoed in my mind. I scoffed. She still had the energy to sneak around after being diagnosed with late-stage stomach cancer? "What are you looking at?" Caden noticed my eyes fixed on the doorway and frowned slightly. I shook my head. "It's nothing." "Then it's settled. The engagement will be at the end of this month," Richard said, looking from me to Caden for confirmation. "I'll leave everything to you, Grandpa," Caden agreed. Caden's POV: This time, nothing would go wrong with my engagement. I would make sure Rosaline had a grand, unforgettable, one-of-a-kind ceremony. After dropping her off at her apartment, I drove straight back to the Eclipse Pack's villa on the outskirts of town. It had been a long time since I'd been here. "Mr. Caden," Laura greeted me respectfully. I gave her a slight nod and headed upstairs. On the second floor, my mother and Queenie were being held in one of the locked rooms. Ever since their scheme had been exposed by Rosaline, I'd ordered the pack's bodyguards to bring them here and place them under house arrest. I motioned for the guards to unlock the door. The moment I stepped inside, Queenie's face lit up with joy. "Caden!" she called out eagerly. My mother turned at the sound of my name and she got up from the couch. "Caden, you're finally here!" I walked further into the room as I announced unwaveringly. "I came here for one reason—to inform you that Rosaline and I are getting engaged." "What?" Both of them exclaimed in shock at the same time."I don't approve of it!" My mother's voice was sharp with anger. I turned to her coldly and replied, "You don't have a say in my decisions." "Caden, what is it about that girl? Why must you insist on going against me?" My mother's fury burned in her gaze. "You even locked up your family because of her!" I scoffed mockingly, "Family? Wasn't Grandpa your family too? And yet you tried to have him killed for your own selfish gain." "Caden, you've got it all wrong!" Queenie's eyes flickered and she grabbed my arm, her voice trembling. "You have to believe us. Aunt Eleanor and I were forced to do it!" I let out a low, skeptical chuckle. "It's true!" Queenie bit her lip, desperation in her expression. "It was Donny! He threatened us! He said if we didn't do as he said, he'd kill us both." "Is that so?" I studied her face, my gaze sharp and unrelenting. Queenie nodded frantically. "Caden, you have to believe me. Donny hates Alpha for banishing him from the Eclipse Pack. He's been plotting his revenge ever since. Aunt Eleanor and I had no choice. The poison we used on Grandpa came from Donny! If you don't believe me, check for yourself." "The only thing I know for certain," I said, my voice as cold as steel, "is that you, Queenie, were the one who poisoned Grandpa." At this point, I had no expectations left for my mother or Queenie. But, if Queenie was telling the truth, then Donny was involved in this too. It wasn't surprising. Donny had been trying to take down the Eclipse Pack for years. Those poisons were most likely given to Queenie by Donny just as she claimed. Now that Donny has pledged loyalty to Everett and become one of his men, could the mastermind behind Grandpa's poisoning be connected to Everett as well?
