The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 355 Touch His Dingdingdong

Hughie's POV: Had I known the extent of Caden's deceit—how far he would go to manipulate Rosaline into marrying him—I would've left him to his fate when Yale first begged me for help. It had been a grim day when Caden and Rosaline were returned by Yale and his werewolf rescue team. Caden was barely alive, and Rosaline was unconscious.Yale, frantic, had begged me to save them. I hadn't wanted to get involved. But then Yale spoke of their bond—how Caden had fallen off that cliff to save Rosaline. Honor, loyalty, and duty demanded I act. It would have been wrong not to. So, despite every instinct to turn away, I agreed. I couldn't let my student's lover die. Not when news of his funeral could be the first thing she woke up to. For three days, I worked without rest, mending the shattered bones in Caden's body. His leg, once doomed to cripple him, I saved as well. Worried he wouldn't survive the pain, I took a risk. I used the witch's stone and Chantcraft to hasten his healing. What would have taken months to recover was done in days. And for all my effort? Caden recovered, only to fake his injury, tricking Rosaline. "Dr. Watts," Caden's voice was low, intense. "I had no choice. Rosaline won't understand ... If I didn't do this, we'd never be together." He lay there, eyes locked on me. "She loves me, Dr. Watts. You can see it, right?" I nodded, quietly. I believed him. He would treat Rosaline right. But still, the deception gnawed at me. He saw my hesitation and pressed on. "Dr. Watts, trust me. I love Rosaline. I'll make her the happiest werewolf on the continent. You want that too, don't you?" I sighed, a heavy exhale. "Fine. This is between the two of you. I've done what I can. Now that you're both fine, I'll take my leave." I had no desire to stay. Every part of this place reminded me of Sal. If he had still been alive, seeing Rosaline grow, watching the werewolf who loved her enough to do anything for her, he would've been proud. But Sal was gone. After leaving Caden's room, I couldn't shake the worry. I went to Rosaline's room, hoping to ease my mind. She was asleep, resting deeply. I didn't want to disturb her, so I lingered quietly by the door. Yura spotted me and hurried over. "Hughie, should I wake Rosaline? She just fell asleep." I shook my head. "Let her rest. Just make sure she applies this to her feet three times a day. She'll heal in three days." I handed Yura a smallbottle. She took it eagerly, nodding. "Got it. I'll give it to her as soon as she wakes." Rosaline's POV: The next day came. I awoke, groggy, the world spinning around me. My hands instinctively went to my eyes, rubbing the sleep away. Yura sat at my bedside, her presence quiet but warm, like sunlight after a storm. "Rosaline, you're awake?" she asked, her voice soft but heavy with concern. "How do you feel?" "Much better," I replied, the words coming easier than I expected. Her care wrapped around me like a blanket. "By the way, Hughie asked me to give you this," she said, pulling a small bottle from her bag. "He said to apply it to your feet three times a day. You'll be better in three days." I took the bottle from her, the weight of it in my hand a reminder of everything that had happened. "Has Hughie left?" "Yeah," Yura answered, a faint sadness in her voice. "He wants you to focus on recovery." I nodded, but something tugged at me. "Yura, can you bring my laptop here?" Her face tightened, the concern deepening. "Your injury isn't fully healed yet. Work can wait." I gave her a half-smile, trying to lighten the mood. "I'm not going to work. Caden and I are getting engaged. I'll need to design our outfits." Yura paused, her expression a mix of surprise and doubt. "You've really made up your mind? You're not bothered by ... Heidi?" I shook my head, a wry smile tugging at my lips. "Heidi? That prim little thing? As long as Caden knows who's truly important to him, that's all that matters. Besides, she won't be around much longer." I'd gathered enough information to know that Heidi's sweet, innocent act was a mask. Something deep in me told me Heidi, or whoever she really was, was just a part of a bigger conspiracy. But I wasn't in a rush to expose her. When I did, I'd make sure it was the end of it. Yura let out a soft sigh of relief. "Well, if you're sure, then I'm happy for you. I can see that Caden's feelings for you are real. I hope you both find happiness." "I'm sure," I said firmly, meeting her gaze. "I love Caden." "Alright, I'll get everything you need. Just say the word, and I'll take care of it." I thought for a moment. "Could you pick out some fabrics for me? The finest you can find. I can't do it myself with my feet like this." "Of course," Yura replied, eager to help. She left the room, and I turned my attention to Caden. I wheeled myself toward his room, my heart speeding up at the thought of seeing him. I knocked softly on the door, and his cool voice answered almost instantly, "Come in!" I pushed open the door and rolled inside. Caden sat on the bed, a small table beside him covered with bottles of medicine and bandages. "What are you doing?" I asked, surprised, as I wheeled myself closer. "Changing my bandages," he said, his voice low, almost detached. "I'll call the nurse to help," I said without thinking, ready to rise. But before I could move, his long arm reached out, pulling me back into my seat. "Don't bother. Leslie will be here soon." "Why wait for Leslie?" I asked, a little confused. "Isn't any nurse good enough?" Caden raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint flashing in his eyes. "Would you want some other woman seeing and touching my body?"
