The Despised Luna's Comeback
Rosaline's POV: The scorching heat of Caden's hand made me catch my breath. This man! He's barely recovering and already being so improper. I never realized how thick-skinned Caden could be. Seeing my silence, Caden tightened his grip on my hand just a bit. "Don't forget, you promised me. No backing out." I caressed his hand. "Yes, I promised you. I won't back out. But for now, we need to find a safe place." With Caden waking up and looking slightly better, my heart finally began to feel a bit more at ease. His illness mainly stemmed from seawater causing his wounds to become inflamed and giving him a high fever. Physical measures alone wouldn't bring down the fever, especially since the temperature outside had dropped. The blazing sun beat down on the beach, unbearable even for a healthy person, let alone Caden with his high fever. What made it worse was that I had no medical supplies, and I was growing increasingly anxious. After thinking for a moment, I decided to find a safe place for Caden first, then search the island for herbs to lower his fever. I had studied medicine with a respected werewolf doctor back in Frostmoore, so I knew a bit about herbs. "Caden, can you walk?" I looked into the distance, wanting to search the forest for herbs, but I was worried about leaving Caden alone here. Caden tried to stand but struggled. I quickly moved to support him, and Caden leaned on my shoulder, his right arm draping across my chest. Unintentionally, his large hand brushed against my soft chest. A shock of sensation ran through me, and my face instantly flushed. I paused, glaring at Caden. "Can't you behave?" Caden's lips curved into a faint smile. "Are you feeling shy?" I sighed, pressing my lips together, and changed the subject. "Watch your step, be careful." It took a significant effort to get Caden under a large tree. I had asked Freya to scout this spot earlier; the thick canopy provided shade from the sun, and it was both dry and safe.Gently, I helped Caden sit and lean against the tree trunk. "Caden, rest here for a bit. I'm going to look around for some herbs," I said. "Alright." Caden nodded slightly. His complexion appeared better. Even if he wasn't as robust as an Alpha, he was still the heir apparent, with a physique that was not to be underestimated. Worried about getting lost, I marked my way as I went. Quickening my pace, I suddenly heard a faint rushing sound. What could that be? Could it be danger? I cautiously stopped and leaned my head to listen carefully. It sounded like running water! The noise seemed to be coming from within the forest. There might be a water source there! Excitedly, I followed the sound and soon came upon a stream. Fantastic! I rushed to the stream's edge, cupping my hands to drink the water in big gulps. After drinking my fill, I felt much better. As I stood up, I noticed several fruit trees on the opposite bank, laden with orange fruits that resembled tangerines. I crossed the stream quickly, plucked a fruit, and sniffed it cautiously. It was indeed a tangerine. Peeling it open, I took a bite. It was deliciously sweet and sour. It seemed like fate was favoring us. With water and tangerines found, surviving on the island wouldn't be a problem. I quickly picked several tangerines and started to make my way back, still keeping an eye out for herbs. Unfortunately, I didn't find any useful ones. I decided to get some fruit to Caden first to replenish his energy. Following my marks, I returned to the large tree where I had left Caden. But as I approached, I saw no one there. Caden was gone!My heart leaped into my throat. Caden was in such bad shape; he could barely stand. How could he just vanish? Did something happen to him? Panic surged through me as I ran over, shouting, "Caden! Caden! Where are you?"
