The Heiress' Savage Comeback

Chapter 524 The Last Night

Elaine dropped to all fours, her movements erratic as she darted in different directions. Sometimes, she crawled straight, and other times, she moved sideways. Her tongue flicked wildly, and eerie, ominous clicking sounds emanated from her. The monkeys, witnessing this disturbing spectacle, were horrified. Unfortunately, none of them could escape from Elaine's grasp. She managed to corral all the monkeys and give them a sound beating. Before long, they were so disoriented that they couldn't even maintain their balance. Dozens of monkeys lay in a sorry state on the ground, presenting a rather peculiar and interesting sight. Elaine stood up straight, and her face was once again a mask of cold indifference. "Remember. This is what you get for trusting humans so easily!" The monkeys began to screech in terror, realizing that these towering creatures, who had previously seemed harmless, could easily become menacing adversaries at any given moment. Ignoring their resentful gazes, Elaine turned away, and her retreating figure soon vanished from their view. Soon, a barrage of comments flooded the stream: This is hilarious. Elle, are you trying to warn the monkeys? Are you cautioning them against the dangers of humanity so that they won't approach humans in the future? I'm guessing you want to prevent them from being harmed by humans with bad intentions, right? I understand why she did this, but it was quite a harsh thing to do. Another replied: Forget the monkeys. I was terrified even though I was watching this on a screen. The way Elle was crawling on the ground made her look like some kind of alien... That smile of hers was so sinister! I'm starting to question Elle's mental state... When Elaine returned to the riverbank, she noticed that the production crew's vessel had already docked, and the camera crew was in place, ready to document Miranda and the rest of the cast. Nearby, Miranda and her fellow cast members were busy grilling food on a row of barbecue grills, with the pungent scent of something overcooked wafting through the air. As Elaine approached, she couldn't help but notice a stack of burnt food on one of the grills. For some reason, they hadn't taken the time to clean the charred remnants off the grill before adding fresh items to cook. With remnants of the previous food still clinging to the grill, any new items they placed there inevitably became stuck. In short, it was a rather messy situation. "Elaine, you're back! The production team has brought us ingredients. Let's have a barbecue for tonight. Since you weren't part of the food preparation earlier, you can take charge of the actual cooking. This way, it'll be a fair distribution of tasks, and we won't accuse you of slacking off," Miranda greeted Elaine with a warm smile and spoke amicably, displaying a generous attitude as if past grievances didn't matter to her. Miranda believed that by extending a welcoming and generous attitude toward Elaine despite how the latter bullied her before this, she would gain the sympathy and admiration of the audience. She anticipated that her kindness and willingness to be amicable in the face of cruelty would significantly enhance her popularity. Slap! Elaine didn't utter a word but instead, slapped Miranda across the face. "Ah!" Miranda let out a yelp of pain and then gazed at Elaine angrily and sorrowfully. "Elaine, I was only trying to be kind and invite you to join us for dinner! Why did you hit me? Even if you don't want to accept my goodwill, you can't resort to violence like that!" Gavin rushed over without hesitation, positioning himself protectively in front of Miranda and glaring at Elaine. "If you ever dare to bully her again, don't expect me to continue treating you like family!" Slap! Elaine wasted no time and delivered a backhanded slap to Gavin as well.Afterward, she spoke with deliberate calm. "I've warned you about this before. We're no longer family, so please avoid mentioning our former kinship in public. I think it's bad luck." Gavin's face flushed with anger. He retorted, "Very well! Since you don't consider me your brother, don't blame me for not showing you any mercy! You're unfairly targeting Miranda and repeatedly assaulting her in front of the cameras. There's concrete evidence of this! Once we're back in the city, I'll take legal action against you on Miranda's behalf! I had intended to heed Miranda's advice and offer you an opportunity to change, but you're just being obstinate! No more chances from me!" Elaine remained unfazed as she explained, "I noticed a few mosquitoes buzzing around your faces. I was simply swatting them away for you." With that, she opened her hand to reveal two lifeless mosquitoes lying in her palm. However, the mosquitoes were not swatted away from their faces. Instead, they were flying in the air and ended up being swatted directly onto their faces when Elaine delivered the slap. Gavin's anger intensified, causing his face to become even redder. He shouted, "Even if there were mosquitoes, why couldn't you just shoo them away? Why did you have to hit us?" Elaine responded with a cold demeanor, "It's quite satisfying to hear the sound." Both Gavin and Miranda were rendered speechless. They were seething with anger, as they believed that Elaine had intentionally struck them."Elaine, I won't hold it against you for yelling at me or even hitting me. All you need to do is apologize, and I'll forgive you. I'll even encourage Gavin to forgive you," murmured Elaine while biting her lower lip. Elaine gave her a half-smile. "Oh, that's so kind of you." Miranda continued, "I was taught to be kind since I was young, thanks to our parents and brothers. If you listen to them, you'll slowly become kinder over time, too." Gavin responded with disdain, "I believe this is all destiny. Miranda, your kind-hearted nature is inherent, while Elaine's wickedness is deeply ingrained. She's incorrigible!" Miranda bit her lip once again, looking crestfallen. "That's such a shame. I had hoped that Elaine could change and become less hostile." At this point, Elaine decided she had had enough of the pretense and simply lifted her foot, kicking them both away. "Get out of the way. Good dogs should learn how to heel." Gavin and Miranda were sent tumbling to the ground as they were kicked aside. Unceremoniously, Elaine then stepped over them, making a point to deliberately step on Miranda more. Elaine was bound by the contract that Yoel had forced her to sign, which required her to bully Miranda throughout the entire seven-day filming period. The production team had been absent for the first six days, leaving only the final day. In order to fulfill her contractual obligations, Elaine needed to make up for the six days she had missed to ensure that Miranda didn't miss out on anything. Look at how dedicated I am. I'm playing the role of the evil villainess very well. She went beyond just bullying Miranda; she even found a way to involve Gavin, even though his name was not mentioned in the contract. That was a gift from her to them. I hope they're not too moved by this. “Ah! My arm is going to snap! Elaine, get off of me!” Miranda shrieked, her face twisted in agony. Elaine casually stepped over her and replied, “I did mention earlier that good dogs should know how to heel. Both of you were determined to block my path, leaving me with no other choice but to walk over you. How can you blame me for this?” “Can't you just take a different route?” yelled Gavin. “I don't like detours,” Elaine replied. Gavin was so furious that he could faint. Since there were cameras everywhere, he couldn't say anything unpleasant and could only shoot a sharp glare at Elaine. Miranda's voice trembled as she struggled to endure the pain. “I'm sorry, Gavin. Elaine despises me, and she only targets you because she sees you protecting me. I'm so sorry...”“Why would I blame you for this? If she wasn't naturally malicious, she wouldn't have done such cruel things to you!” hissed Gavin through clenched teeth. Miranda bit her lower lip pitifully. Despite being in pain, she was filled with joy. The more Elaine targeted her, the more attention this reality show would receive. This increased visibility was likely to boost Miranda's popularity, with viewers disliking Elaine and sympathizing with Miranda, ultimately becoming her fans. Miranda had a strong intuition that once this show aired, she would likely reach the peak of her career and become an A-list celebrity. In contrast, it seemed highly likely that this would mark the downfall of Elaine's career in the entertainment industry. This show represented Elaine's final opportunity to make an appearance in showbiz. Considering this, Miranda was willing to let Elaine enjoy her moment for a few more days. More comments flooded the livestream this time: Miranda is absolutely terrible. As soon as she realizes that the cameras are on her, she'll start pretending again. What happened to her previously arrogant and domineering personality? That woman can really act! If she can put her acting skills to good use, then nobody would be complaining about her lack of talent in every movie she's starred in! Miranda and Gavin can both go to hell! There's something seriously wrong with them, and they're just disgusting!Elaine was too kind to them! She should've shut them up completely! Just hearing them speak disgusts me. Go on, keep up with this act! I want to see how they'll maintain this facade when they return to the city tomorrow. It's the last day! Just hang in there! I'm looking forward to their reactions when they find out the truth! The director has to reveal the truth to them on camera! Meanwhile, Elaine had walked to the side and stacked some wood to start a fire. She had no intention of eating the food that the production team had brought with them. The food had already been ruined by Miranda and Gavin, which had dampened Elaine's appetite. Moreover, the monkeys had provided her with plenty of prey. If she didn't finish it by tonight, it would likely spoil, and she couldn't bear the thought of wasting food. After the fire ignited, she added more wood to create a charcoal fire. She then caught two wild hares and prepared them near the river. By the time the meat was properly prepared, the charcoal was also ready, allowing her to start grilling. As time passed, the hare meat sizzled, gradually taking on a delicious sheen of oil as it cooked perfectly. The mouthwatering aroma of grilled meat soon filled the air, causing everyone to salivate at the enticing smell. Elaine couldn't finish all the meat by herself, so she gave some to the videographer who was in charge of filming her. The videographer was pleasantly surprised. He thanked her profusely after receiving the cooked meat with both hands. Elaine glanced at the videographer quickly and, for reasons she couldn't quite explain, sensed that he had been looking at her strangely. However, it wasn't just the videographer; all the crew members seemed to be giving her odd looks. She couldn't understand what was going on, but she brushed it aside and leisurely settled down to enjoy her own cooking. Upon her return, Janice, Xavier, and Jett had kept their distance from her and avoided making eye contact. Elaine suspected that they might be colluding with Miranda and Gavin. Oh well. It doesn't matter. I didn't invest any emotions in them, so I won't be disappointed by their behavior. She had shared food with them mainly because she couldn't finish it all by herself. Plus, she had also asked them to perform for her in exchange for the food so that they could be even. However, she had decided that in the future, she would consider them as adversaries. Having satisfied her hunger, Elaine found a secluded spot away from the rest of the crew. She lay down and gazed up at the starry sky. I'll be leaving tomorrow, and I might not have the chance to see such a breathtaking night sky again. I should take this opportunity to enjoy it to the fullest. The viewership remained consistently above a hundred million that night, probably because the audience was also sad that the show was coming to an end. Even in the early hours of the morning, long after everyone had gone to sleep, the audience still lingered. Not knowing when the cast would leave the next day or when the director would reveal the truth, the viewers didn't want to miss any part of the unfolding drama. Some were so captivated that they didn't get any sleep that night, eagerly anticipating the climax of the show.
