The Heiress' Savage Comeback
Gavin gently wiped away Miranda's tears. "Why are you crying again? I believe you, and I'll never doubt you. My Miranda is the kindest girl in the world, isn't she? How could you ever harm me? You won't even hurt a fly, let alone want me dead! Besides, you saved me last night. Why would you want me dead today? It doesn't make sense. No matter how they slander you, I won't believe them. They don't understand you and don't know how kind you are." Miranda smiled through her tears. "Thank you for believing in me, Gavin. As long as you do, I don't care how anyone else misunderstands me. You are the only one I care about." Netizen A: "Damn it, I can't take this anymore. I want to tear Miranda's lying tongue out!" Netizen B: "What a terrible person. She's the one who wanted to drown Gavin. The other three were concerned about him, but she turned it around to blame them. The point is, even a dog would show more gratitude than Miranda!" Netizen C: "If you keep blindly trusting her, Gavin, you're going to end up dead at her hands!" Netizen D: "Elaine has hit you so many times, yet you still haven't come to your senses. How frustrating!" Netizen E: "How can Gavin be so stupid? It's a miracle that someone this foolish managed to survive into adulthood!"Netizen F: "Though I'm not rooting for Gavin, I don't like how Miranda is getting away with everything. I hope he sees her true colors soon!" Netizen G: "One is foolish, and the other is despicable. They are perfect for each other." Netizen H: "Miranda is so fake. Why are there people like her in the world?" Netizen J: "Mr. Grisham should give Elaine the spotlight. I would rather watch Elaine stumble than see Miranda getting away with murder!" Meanwhile, Elaine was grilling a fish. Jett, Xavier, and Janice sat nearby, staring at her. Though they were hungry, they didn't dare ask her for any. They knew how cold and decisive Elaine could be. If she refused to share, it wouldn't matter how much they pleaded. Elaine took a bite of the freshly grilled fish and placed another one on the coals. As she savored the tantalizing aroma and tender flesh, she gazed at Jett and the others, narrowing her eyes. "We're just looking," Jett said. "We won't fight you for it." After days of starvation, they didn't have the strength to steal from her even if they wanted to. "Do you lot have any special talents?" Elaine asked casually. The trio looked puzzled. "Huh?" "Perform for me while I eat," Elaine said. "If you do well, I'll reward you with some food." Xavier's eyes widened with anger. "Do you think of us as jesters? No matter how capable you are, you can't humiliate us like that!" Before he finished his outburst, Janice jumped to her feet and ran over to Elaine. "Do you mean it? I can sing. Will that do?" Elaine nodded. "That'll do." "Any requests?" Janice asked immediately. "Go with your heart," Elaine said. After a moment's thought, Janice suggested, "Then I'll sing 'Rising Wind,' one of my favorites. I used to hear it every day back in school." Elaine nodded in approval. Janice cleared her throat and began singing earnestly. "Making stops along the way, guided by the remnants of youth..." Hmm... "The meal does seem more enjoyable with some good entertainment." Janice had a sweet voice and decent technique, but she sounded a bit weak and flat after days of starvation. However, Elaine didn't interrupt her halfway through. Their initial assessment of Elaine being cold was accurate.Indeed, she was cold when it came to people she didn't care about. She couldn't show even an ounce of pity, even when facing people on the brink of death. Elaine had seen too much of this, and her compassion had long since been exhausted to the point where she couldn't muster any. Elaine waited for Janice to finish her song before saying, "Wait. You can have this fish once it's done cooking." Janice beamed. She trotted over to Elaine and sat down. "Thank you, Elaine." Though Janice was older than Elaine, the latter was such a formidable figure that the former didn't dare to act out of line. Elaine didn't seem to mind. Jett also stood up. "Though I couldn't sing to save my life," he told Elaine, "I've learned sword dancing for a role once. Can I give you a performance using a tree branch as a sword?" Elaine nodded. "You may." Jett dashed into the woods to find a suitable branch. After a while, he returned with a branch roughly the same length as a sword. Holding it steady, he began his performance. He had been dancing for a while when music suddenly filled the air. Xavier was blowing on a leaf, creating a melody. The majestic tune, accompanying Jett's swift movements, was much more entertaining than those rehearsed programs. Elaine raised her eyebrows. "These two are indeed talented." Jett danced with such dedication that he continued for close to fifteen minutes before concluding his performance. Xavier also played along for fifteen minutes. Jett danced so vigorously that he was sweating and panting from the exertion. Xavier, on the other hand, played until his face turned red. He looked like he was almost out of breath. "Bravo! This is the best performance I've ever seen! You two were truly excellent. Mr. Duvale, you have outstanding stamina, and Mr. Quinn, you have a powerful set of lungs." Janice clapped enthusiastically. She thought they were simply remarkable. "It's amazing how they could still put on such a performance despite not having eaten for so long!" As soon as she spoke, however, Jett and Xavier slumped to the ground. "Huh? What happened to them?" Janice was shocked. She jumped to her feet, intending to check on them. As she stood up too quickly, she also saw stars and fell to the grass in a crumpled heap."Like you, their blood sugar is just a little low," Elaine explained. Janice awkwardly massaged her head. After being hungry for so long and exerting themselves forcefully in their performances, they were particularly vulnerable and feeling jittery. Netizen Y: "Damn, Jett and Xavier didn't hold back. Jett was so graceful with the sword, it was truly a sight to behold!" Netizen ER: "Xavier could even create beautiful music from a leaf, and he did it for fifteen minutes straight! I was even worried he might suffocate. Both of them are impressive." Netizen Soku: "I suppose I owe an apology. I was prejudiced against Xavier because he came from a boy band. I hereby revise my opinion: he deserves his fame." Netizen 12312: I can't believe how talented Xavier is despite looking so young! Netizen W: "Jett is a renowned movie star, indeed. It's no wonder he became the youngest actor ever to win so many awards. He deserves them!" Netizen Q: "Isn't anyone going to praise Janice? I'll do it then. She can sing really well." Netizen T: "What do I do? It feels like everything I know is changing. They, along with Miranda, used to bully Elaine using sneaky tactics, but now it seems like I've become a fan of theirs." Netizen Zozo: "I don't think it's their fault. They only followed Miranda because they were afraid of offending the Grant family. They were just pawns. It wasn't their intention."Netizen A: "That's true. Besides, they're inherently kind. When Gavin was in danger, they were concerned about him." Netizen B: "Before the production team disbanded, they weren't very nice to Elle." Netizen 2123: "I think that's normal, isn't it? Elaine's ratings were poor, and they didn't want to be associated with her. Weren't we also criticizing her before that? Many people were praising Miranda for her looks and kindness." Netizen Lalaland: "I hope Jett and Xavier won't be blacklisted. Although I think they were at fault, they were ordered to do it. They aren't bad people." Netizen A: Seeing how Elle was willing to share her food, it's proof enough that she doesn't hate them, right? Netizen EggE: "Elle must know that Miranda is the mastermind, so she forgave Jett and the others. There's no need for us to hold a grudge, too." During the broadcast, a lively debate ensued among the audience about whether Jett and Xavier should be forgiven. At the scene, Jett and Xavier soon regained consciousness. They crawled up from the ground and sat beside the fire, staring intently at the fish being grilled. Taking in the fragrant aroma, they couldn't help but salivate. "How good it smells! I want a bite so badly, I don't even care if it's not cooked yet."However, they managed to suppress that urge. Once the fish was ready, Elaine allowed the three of them to share it. Despite being starving, they maintained their composure and politely divided the fish instead of fighting over it. "It's been four days, and I finally get to eat food like this!" As Janice ate, tears streamed down her face. People are most vulnerable when they feel a hint of warmth during their most difficult times. Jett and Xavier were also deeply moved, but they didn't cry. Just then, Gavin got dressed and approached with Miranda. As they got closer, they saw Janice, Jett, and Xavier sitting before Elaine, sharing a satisfying meal of grilled fish. Miranda thought Elaine finally felt remorse and was sharing her food, assuming there would be a portion for her and Gavin. Gavin paused. His thoughts mirrored Miranda's. The animosity he felt towards Elaine lessened slightly. "It seems that Elaine is not beyond redemption. Deep down, she is still kind. If we guide her properly, she might even become a normal person." Miranda looked furious. She let go of Gavin's hand and rushed over. "How could you be so selfish?" she yelled, glaring at them. "Why did you start eating without waiting for me and Gavin? How terrible of you to have eaten our portion! The rest is mine and Gavin's, no one takes another bite. Give it to me!" As soon as she finished speaking, she reached out to grab the fish. With two-thirds of the fish remaining, she was confident it would satisfy her hunger. Since she was wary of Xavier and Jett, fearing she might not be able to overpower them, she didn't take their portions. Instead, she snatched Janice's share. "I'll let Gavin take Xavier and Jett's!" "The rest is mine, b*tch. Give me your fish!" Miranda snarled, grabbing Janice's wrist.
