The Heiress' Savage Comeback
Janice's voice came from behind. When Elaine turned around, she saw the other five standing nearby, giving her complex looks. This sight didn't surprise her, as she had already heard them approaching from a distance. Even without looking, she could tell from the footsteps that it was them. "What is it?" Elaine asked nonchalantly. Biting her lip, Janice looked at Elaine fearfully but mustered the courage to walk up to her in the end. The other four followed suit. It wasn't until they were one meter away from Elaine that they stopped in their tracks. Elaine glared at them, her face expressionless. Janice subsequently bowed deeply at Elaine and said sincerely, "I'm sorry, Elaine. I shouldn't have been biased against you previously, let alone steal your things. I would like to apologize and hope that you can forgive me." Jett and Xavier also bowed, their faces filled with remorse. Jett said, "I'm sorry, as I've also made a mistake. As a man, I shouldn't have bullied a lady like you. I'm apologizing to you right now, and I'll make it up to you once we leave this place. I hope that you can forgive me too."Xavier apologized, "I'm also sorry, Elaine. I, too, will make it up to you. I'll recommend you movie deals in the future, so please forgive me." Thereafter, Gavin pulled the awkward-looking Miranda forward and bowed slightly to Elaine. Gavin said, "Elaine, I know I have wronged you before this, but please don't hold it against me. Going forward, I'll treat you better and will do my best to make it up to you." Subsequently, Miranda reluctantly added, "I shouldn't have stolen your belongings, but you have also hit me, so we're even. Going forward, I won't cause you any more trouble and hope that you will let the past be water under the bridge. Let's get along from now on." Elaine maintained her cold stare at them. "Are you here just to apologize?" The group nodded in response. Miranda added impatiently, "Now that we've apologized and you've forgiven us, let's work together as a team going forward. As team members, we need to help and support each other. So, Elaine, when you go out looking for food today, please come back with our portion too." Elaine responded with a snigger. Just as she expected, they weren't really there to apologize. Instead, they only did so with an agenda. Do they really think that with a simple apology, they can treat me as their slave and get me to gather food for them? They must be dreaming!"Since when did I ever say that I've forgiven you?" Elaine sneered. Miranda's face darkened. "Elaine, why are you being so petty? This is a trivial matter, and we've already apologized. Besides, we were the ones who were beaten up. Since we've already suffered, why are you still holding a grudge against us?" She had wanted to accuse Elaine of having no right to blame them since the latter didn't lose anything. However, Gavin tugging at her caused her to swallow her confrontational words. Elaine replied in a frosty tone, "Am I really the one being petty now? You got beaten up because you were no match for me. If I hadn't known how to fight, my consequences would have been far worse than yours. You would have gotten them to beat me until I couldn't even stand. In fact, I might very well have lost my life. You were unable to do evil not because you didn't want to, but because I managed to stop you, got it?" Miranda glowered intensely. "You're the evil one! You stood by and watched as we went hungry. Even when we almost died of hunger, you refused to lend a hand. You're clearly trying to get us killed. So tell me, who else is as evil as you are? If you refuse to help us and we end up dying, you will be haunted by your conscience for the rest of your life!" "Enough, Miranda!" Gavin reprimanded her, grabbing her wrist. We clearly agreed to apologize politely and get Elaine to help us, so why is Miranda threatening her again? Staring daggers at Miranda, Jett shouted, "What's wrong with you? We're here to plead with Elaine for her help, so what's with that attitude of yours? If you can't get off your high horse, you had better go back and die of hunger instead of dragging us down with you!" Xavier, too, frowned. "I know movie stars can be hypocrites, but what you're doing is just plain dumb. I have no idea what's wrong with the Grant family. They would rather cast aside a pretty and capable girl like Elaine and take in a stupid and fake fool like you!" Even though Xavier was a newcomer to the entertainment industry, he had powerful patrons due to his family background. Hence, he wasn't afraid of offending Miranda. In the worst-case scenario, he would just leave the industry altogether. In the beginning, he had obeyed Miranda as the circumstances weren't desperate enough and he still wanted a career as an actor. However, now that his life was at stake, those concerns didn't matter anymore. His survival was now paramount. "H-How dare you yell at me?" Miranda widened her eyes, her face filled with disbelief. Throughout her entire life, no one, except for Elaine, had ever scolded her before. Why are Xavier and Jett shouting at me? How dare they! Such insolence! As Miranda's eyes reddened, tears began to fall like rain as she gave Gavin a pitiful look. "Gavin, they're bullying me. You have to take revenge on my behalf!" However, Gavin merely pursed his lips in silence. "What's the meaning of this, Gavin? Why aren't you saying anything? You promised Mom, Dad, Yoel, and Quentin that you'll protect me!" The more she thought about it, the angrier Miranda got, causing her sobs to intensify. Finally, Gavin spoke in a grim tone, "Stop making a fuss, Miranda. This was your fault in the first place. Besides, you promised to behave appropriately by apologizing to Elaine. Yet you started to threaten her again right after you barely said sorry." In a trembling voice, Miranda responded, "Gavin, how can you think that I'm also in the wrong? After being beaten to this extent, it's difficult for me to humble myself like this. Why do all of you insist that I apologize when Elaine is clearly the one at fault? And now that I've apologized, you accuse me of having the wrong attitude. What's wrong with feeling disgruntled when I'm the one who has to say sorry after being bullied? If I had known that you weren't going to protect me, I wouldn't have let you come along. I don't mind if you can't protect me, but how can you join an outsider in bullying me? You're nothing but a liar!" Gavin's face couldn't have been gloomier, and the frustration in his eyes was evident. Under normal circumstances, he would always give in to Miranda's tantrums, but over the past two days, she had pushed him to the limit. Meanwhile, Jett turned his attention back to Elaine and said sincerely, "Elaine, we're different from Miranda. We truly acknowledge our mistake and apologize. Please accept our apology." As Elaine coldly stared at him, her icy gaze swept across all their faces. Although she could see the remorse in their eyes, it was overshadowed by their hunger. Clearly, they were only apologizing because their hunger had gotten the best of them. However, once they were satisfied, apologizing would be the last thing on their minds, even if they knew they were wrong. With that in mind, Elaine responded, "It's natural for you to apologize after doing something wrong. It shows that you still have a conscience." Her words pleased the group. "However..." Elaine continued, "Just as you have the right to apologize, I also have the right to decide whether to forgive you. You may feel remorseful for your actions, but it doesn't mean that I have to accept your apology, especially when it can't erase the pain you've caused me. Besides, I won't search for food for you guys. Although I'm not as cruel and hypocritical as Miranda, I'm not a saint either. I won't help those who want to harm me. Plus, all of you are capable of finding your own food. The production team has placed livestock throughout this area, all of which are injured and sedated. Their slow movements make them easy prey. All animals share a common instinct. In a foreign environment, they always find a hidden spot to take cover." After finishing her statement, Elaine turned around and ventured deep into the jungle. Janice wanted to follow Elaine, but her movements were too quick. Using a tree vine to propel herself forward, Elaine swiftly disappeared, leaving Janice with no choice but to stop. "Hahaha, do you see now? She has no conscience at all. She wants us to die here. Lowering yourselves to beg her has only humiliated you!" Miranda taunted, relishing in their misfortune. However, Xavier and Jett ignored her. After exchanging glances, they too entered the jungle and convinced Janice to join them. Concerned about leaving Miranda alone, Gavin had no choice but to stay with her. With a furrowed brow, he said, "Miranda, why do you seem like a completely different person? I can barely recognize you. You were never like this before..." Miranda froze before softening her tone and bursting into tears. "Do you know how much I've suffered? I've lost a tooth, my face is swollen, and I'm covered in insect bites. I'm starving and traumatized, and instead of showing concern, you blame me? It makes me really sad..." Gavin was momentarily taken aback before giving her a sympathetic hug. "I'm sorry for not being able to protect you and letting you suffer." He understood that extreme hunger could make someone irritable. Well, a hungry man is an angry man. Considering Miranda's hunger and the fact that she had been beaten up, it wasn't surprising that her behavior had changed significantly. He was confident that her behavior would return to normal once they left this place. In a pitiful voice, Miranda asked, "What are we going to do since Elaine refuses to help us? Are we going to go hungry again? I'm so hungry that I can barely walk..." Gavin replied through gritted teeth, "Let's explore our surroundings. Even if we can't catch any livestock, finding a few eggs would be enough. At least we'll be able to survive." Reluctantly following Gavin, Miranda cursed him in her mind. I can't believe how useless he is! If only he had a fraction of Elaine's skills, I wouldn't be starving. He can't even defeat a woman. What a worthless person! Meanwhile, the livestream comments continued: Netizen A: Tsk-tsk, Miranda is really good at making excuses, and Gavin is a fool for easily believing her lies. Netizen B: Thankfully, Elaine didn't forgive them. People like them are unforgivable! Netizen C: Elle has been kind enough to mention that the livestock would usually hide. If they were smart, they would have been able to find the slow-moving animals in the bushes. We've seen quite a few of them from Elle's camera angle. There are so many around that I can't understand why Gavin's group still can't find any. Netizen D: Quick, switch the scene back to Elle. I'd rather watch her staring into space than spare a glance for Miranda. Netizen E: Wow! Elle is amazing. She has defeated the monkeys again. I hope they won't bother her anymore, will they? Netizen F: I'm surprised that monkeys can hold a grudge and learn to ambush Elle. I've learned something new today. Meanwhile, Elaine continued walking forward. Although she saw many pigeons and rabbits along the way, she wasn't in a rush to catch them. There were so many available that she could easily catch one on her way back. Instead, she was searching for wild fruits. The monkeys that attacked her lived on a hill and were active in the jungle. Without a doubt, they would be living together as a group. Therefore, Elaine deduced that there was a hill behind the jungle. When the monkeys fled earlier, she noticed that they were heading in the same direction she was going. So, she wanted to find the hill beyond the jungle by following their tracks. Moving through the jungle, Elaine either swung on the vines or crawled on the ground, allowing her to cover a large distance quickly. After about half an hour, she emerged from the jungle and saw the hill in the distance. Looking up, she was greeted by the sight of the monkeys that had fled earlier. The moment they caught sight of her, they let out screams and hurriedly retreated up the hill. As she pondered with a scratch on her head, Elaine whispered to herself, "Am I truly that frightening? As long as they don't attack me, I won't harm them, so why are they running away?" Receiving no response, Elaine shrugged before embarking on her ascent up the hill. Fortunately, luck was on her side as she stumbled upon wild grapes on the hill. After plucking two clusters, she settled on a glistening boulder to savor them while admiring the breathtaking scenery. This place is absolutely stunning, and the air is invigoratingly crisp. It puts the tourist spots back home to shame! Once she finished the grapes, a sour sensation overwhelmed her teeth. "Tsk, I should probably take a break. It's hurting my teeth." With that, Elaine continued her exploration of the hill. Soon enough, she stumbled upon a cluster of persimmon trees. Their fruits were all ripe but had already been pecked at by birds. It took her some time, but she eventually found one that remained untouched. She then climbed the tree to pluck it. Afterward, she discovered a few other varieties of wild fruit, but none of them tasted good, so she left them unfinished. In the end, she spent the entire day scouring the hill. Meanwhile, the monkeys observed her from a distance, concerned that she intended to invade their territory. Initially, Elaine had no intention of returning, as she had planned to stargaze from the hill at night. Its elevation provided a clearer view, resulting in an even more splendid nocturnal panorama. Unfortunately, she couldn't bathe due to the absence of water in the vicinity. After a full day of exploration, the stickiness from her sweat compelled her to freshen up. With no other option, she retraced her steps and happened to catch an unfortunate rabbit along the way. Upon reaching the campsite, she spotted Miranda and the others. Given their empty-handed appearance, it was evident that they hadn't caught any prey. Instead, they all appeared shocked, with disheveled clothes and unkempt hair. Gavin, in particular, looked the worst. His t-shirt was soaked in blood, and his face bore numerous claw marks. The despair on his face couldn't have been more apparent. Undoubtedly, they had encountered something dreadful in the jungle.
