The Heiress' Savage Comeback

Chapter 505 Greedy Elaine

"What's happening? What caused the explosion?" Miranda panicked and sought refuge behind Gavin. Gavin brushed off the eggshells and sparks from himself, appearing equally alarmed but still trying to reassure Miranda by patting her back. "Don't worry. It was just the egg that exploded. Everything is fine now." Miranda gasped. "Why would the eggs explode?" Gavin answered, "I remember that we can't heat eggs in the microwave because they'll explode, but I never thought they'd explode in the fire too." Livid, Miranda stomped her foot and shouted, "Those four eggs were our lunch. What are we going to eat now that they've exploded?" Gavin's expression was grim while Miranda turned to Janice, snapping, "Why didn't you remind us of this? You grew up in the countryside, so you should have known about it. Did you intentionally keep quiet? Did you want me to starve?" Janice vigorously shook her head. "No, no! I didn't do it on purpose; I didn't know they'd explode in the fire!" However, Miranda remained skeptical. "Do you honestly think I'll believe you? You come from the countryside; how could you not know this?" "I've never roasted an egg before. I really don't know about this!" Additionally, things had changed, and not everyone born in the countryside was necessarily involved in farming. Even though Janice hailed from a rural background, her family didn't assign her many farming duties. Her parents had told her to prioritize her education rather than helping out the family. Plus, she was still quite young, and there was not much she could do. Furthermore, she had only resided in the countryside until she completed junior high school. When she entered junior high, her parents took out a loan to purchase a house in the city to ensure her a better education, and they relocated there. As a result, she had limited knowledge of farming practices. Despite Janice's fervent explanations, Miranda continued to berate her, roaring, "How dare you answer back to me?" In response, Janice clamped her mouth shut, too afraid to say anything further. "Thanks to you, my brother and I lost our lunch! You'll have to go into the woods and find us more food now. Don't return until you've found something!" Miranda exclaimed in frustration. Janice's face was filled with alarm. "A-Are you asking me to go alone? But I'm scared—" "Don't try to act helpless and timid. You grew up in the countryside; how can you be afraid of the woods? I'm not oblivious to your intentions. You're pretending to be scared so that you can get my brother to join you in the woods. You're trying to create an opportunity to seduce him, aren't you?" Miranda accused. Janice vehemently shook her head. "I'm not—" Miranda's scoff interrupted her. "Hah! Give it up. I can't believe someone like you would even consider seducing my brother. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. You're not even fit to be a housekeeper for my family!" Janice was incensed and trembled with anger. "I have no intentions of seducing your brother!" "If you don't, then go into the woods yourself. Use your actions to prove your innocence; not empty words!" Janice bit down hard on her lip. In the end, she had no choice but to enter the forest with red eyes. "Hmph! What a puny trick. I'm shocked she even tried this on me," Miranda grumbled. However, Gavin could only stare at Miranda in shock. The Miranda Grant before him now appeared like a complete stranger. This rude and mean version of Miranda—was she still the gentle and sensible sister he had once known? While Miranda had been somewhat obstinate and pampered in the past, her behavior wasn't completely out of line. However, she was now losing her temper with everyone, and that was completely out of character."What's come over you, Miranda? Janice is a girl. It's not safe for her to venture into the woods alone, and you shouldn't have pushed her to do it. What if she gets lost or something bad happens to her?" Gavin said, wearing a concerned expression. Miranda immediately pouted, her eyes welling up with tears. "Gavin, are you scolding me because of an outsider?" Gavin replied, "I'm not scolding you, but I'm pointing out when something isn't right. As your older brother, it's my duty to guide you in distinguishing right from wrong. I'm doing this for your own good." Without missing a beat, Miranda's tears streamed down as she sobbed, "I've been thrown into this dreadful place, tormented by mosquitoes, and was nearly disfigured by that wicked woman Elaine. I've lost half a tooth, had to sleep on the grass at night, my entire body aches, and I haven't eaten since yesterday morning. I've been enduring so much, so I'm in a terrible mood. My patience is wearing thin, which is why I was so harsh with her. But, Gavin, you're taking an outsider's side just like this? You don't care about me anymore. You've changed, Gavin! You've changed..." Miranda was crying inconsolably. Seeing her tears, Gavin panicked and rushed over to wipe them away. "I'm sorry. This is my fault. Please don't cry, okay? I'm not blaming you for any of this. You haven't done anything wrong. The filming crew is to blame for the suffering you've endured, and the others as well. They should have been more considerate of you, knowing how much you've been through. They're all in the wrong. When we get back, I'll make sure to settle the score for you, okay? I'll also handle Elaine."Miranda then threw herself into Gavin's arms, crying. "Okay... You can't break your promise, Gavin. We'll let the others go, but we can't let Elaine get away with this!" Gavin replied resolutely, "Yes, I'll ensure Elaine pays for her actions." Miranda's expression contorted into one of malevolent determination. I'm never going to let you off the hook, Elaine. I'm going to make your life a living hell! The viewers commented: What the heck? This is unbelievable! My blood pressure is through the roof just thinking about it. How could Miranda be so malicious to send Janice alone into the forest to find food? If they were really in the wilderness with no production crew secretly ensuring their safety, would Miranda take responsibility if Janice encountered danger? Is Gavin just a puppet? He unquestioningly believes everything Miranda says! Elaine is his biological sister. Is he really seeking revenge for a fake sister? Is he out of his mind? This is disturbing. There must be something wrong with the Grants' upbringing. They share the same twisted mindset; that's why they stick together! I completely agree. Why else would the Grants support Miranda in plotting against their own blood relatives? What is Gavin planning for revenge against Elaine? Did you see that sinister smile on Miranda's face? It gave me the creeps; she's so terrifying!Hahaha! This show has revealed her true nature; I can't wait for the day she discovers the truth! Meanwhile, Janice spent three to four hours searching in the forest but was unable to capture any prey. Considering her limited physical capabilities, her mere presence in the forest was an accomplishment. Even for men, hunting could be challenging, so expecting her to succeed was unrealistic. As darkness began to fall, Janice, anxious about the possibility of staying in the forest overnight, had no choice but to retrace her steps. Although she hadn't been able to catch any prey, Janice did find two chicken eggs. However, when Miranda saw that Janice had only brought back two eggs, she flew into a rage. She verbally berated Janice and then seized the eggs, keeping one for herself and giving one to Gavin, leaving Janice without any food. Despite this, Janice didn't dare to voice any complaints. Having learned from their previous mishap during lunchtime, Gavin was more cautious this time. He didn't directly put the eggs in the fire. Instead, he found a relatively flat stone, heated it over the fire, and cracked the eggs onto it to make fried eggs. After finishing her egg, Miranda only grew hungrier. She exclaimed with frustration, "What's taking the production team so long? Why haven't they come to pick us up?" Gavin shared her sentiment, his face displaying concern. He felt the production team had gone too far, being irresponsible in leaving them stranded for such a long time. Then, Miranda's nose suddenly detected a delightful aroma, and she remarked enviously, "That smells incredible. Elaine is grilling something again." Gavin's mouth began to water uncontrollably. Why have I never realized how skilled Elaine is at cooking? Every time she grills meat, it smells so delicious that my mouth waters. Miranda stood up and said to Gavin, "Gavin, let's go check it out." Gavin nodded in agreement, and the three of them set off in the direction of Elaine's cooking spot. Elaine's dinner for the evening was fish. She had managed to catch a sizable grass carp from the river, weighing at least ten pounds. Dividing the fish into two portions, she grilled one half and cooked the other half with mushrooms. The scent of the grilled fish was so enticing that it attracted birds circling the nearby trees and even enticed some squirrels to approach. Elaine found this situation a bit puzzling. But birds and squirrels don't typically have grilled fish in their diet. Why are they here? All of a sudden, Elaine noticed some unwelcome guests approaching her spot. Gavin, Miranda, and Janice were walking toward her. Elaine simply glanced at them before pretending not to notice their presence. Gavin, Miranda, and Janice walked closer to Elaine, stopping just a couple of meters away from her. Their attention was fixed on the food. Elaine carried on with her meal, seemingly unperturbed by their presence. They can do whatever they like as long as they don't disturb me. Around fifteen minutes later, both the grilled fish and cooked fish fillet with mushrooms were ready. Elaine brought out a bowl and utensils, served herself a portion of mushroom and fish soup, and savored a satisfying spoonful of it. It tastes wonderfully fresh. Gulp! Miranda and Gavin couldn't help but audibly swallow, their longing evident and overpowering the sound of Elaine sipping her soup. After Elaine finished her soup, she picked up the grilled fish and took a bite. Gulp! The others swallowed again. The aroma of the food intensified their hunger. As Elaine enjoyed her meal, Gavin gathered the courage to speak up, "Elaine, you've prepared so much food, and you can't possibly finish it all by yourself. Please share some with us." Elaine's response was curt. "Go away." Gavin attempted to appeal to her sense of conservation. "There's a lot of food, and wasting it wouldn't be right. We should be frugal and not waste food, or else bad luck might befall us. I'm just trying to be helpful." Elaine repeated, "Go away." Despite his displeasure, Gavin persisted in a gentle tone, "Elaine, we're family. You can't eat all of this by yourself. Please share some with your brother." Elaine coldly remarked, "Don't play the family card. We haven't been a family for a long time. Have you forgotten my warning? Don't call me your sister in front of others; I consider it bad luck." Determined, Gavin said, "Can we buy it then? Let us have a little, and I'll pay you when we get back." Elaine raised an eyebrow, looking at him with a half-smile. "Are you really going to buy it?" Gavin's eyes lit up, thinking Elaine might be willing to sell it. He quickly said, "Yes, I'm serious about buying it. Name your price. Even if it's above market value, I can afford it." Elaine replied, "One hundred billion for one person, so it's two hundred billion for both of you. If you agree to this price, I'll allow you to have some." Miranda and Gavin stared at her in disbelief. "Are you serious? Even if it's made of gold, it's not worth that price!"
