The Heiress' Savage Comeback

Chapter 323 In The End, It's The Younger Sister Who Proves Most Reliable

As they journeyed back in the car, Simone turned to Bailey and asked, "Do you believe the geomancy association will penalize Jodie after their investigation?" Bailey glanced at her before responding, "It's hard to say. Given that she's not a geomancer herself, she's unlikely to face severe punishment. It largely depends on whether they can identify the geomancer who aided her. That individual will undoubtedly face significant penalties." Simone smiled and posed another question, "Do you think they'll be able to unmask the person pulling the strings behind her?" Bailey retorted, "What's your take on it? Do you think they'll manage to uncover the puppet master?" Simone responded, "There are two potential outcomes. If someone wishes to shield Jodie Gray, they'll find a fall guy to shoulder the blame. This way, the responsibility can be deflected onto the scapegoat, allowing Jodie to evade punishment. However, if they decide to completely abandon her, then they won't bother to unmask that person." In such a scenario, Jodie would be left to face the music and would likely end up behind bars. She turned to him and asked, "Which outcome do you think is more probable?" It seemed improbable that they could expose Jodie's biological father through this incident, but it was still worth a shot to gauge the depth of the situation. Bailey responded, "I believe the first scenario is more likely. After all, I can still detect traces of fortune surrounding Jodie Gray. Her destiny is also unusual, with many people tied to her." He gave her a meaningful look and added, "If she goes down, it may not necessarily work in your favor." Simone grasped his implication. "Because our destinies are intertwined, correct? Are you suggesting that we need to gradually erode her luck for it to be beneficial to me? Is that the only way to sever the curse binding me to her?" Is he cautioning me or leading me astray? Simone felt it was more of the former. After all, she had harbored doubts and suspicions about this before. The significance of the person backing Jodie was likely even greater than that of Skylar, the medium. To thoroughly suppress Jodie, it was essential to gradually deplete her luck; only when it was drained to the point of no return could the curse be broken. Having gone through this ordeal, as long as Bailey tackled it decisively, Jodie's luck could be halved, and it would be considerably easier to whittle down the remaining half compared to before. Bailey smiled and said, "You're quite astute." He gazed out the window, exuding an air of indifference, and continued, "If you wish to break the stalemate, simply follow your instincts." Simone looked at him intently. "Thank you for the advice, Master Shawn."He chuckled. "You don't need to probe me. I have no ties with Jodie and couldn't care less about her." Then, he turned his head and looked at her with profound eyes. With a meaningful smile playing on his lips, he said, "I'm more intrigued by you." Simone raised an eyebrow and laughed. "Is that so? Well, it's quite a coincidence because I'm equally intrigued by you." This man could potentially be the key to breaking the deadlock. They ceased discussing this topic and engaged in casual conversation instead. Simone began asking him about the practices of geomancy masters, seeking clarification on some aspects she still didn't fully comprehend. He didn't feign knowledge and answered each question, which provided Simone with a wealth of insights, prompting her to continue seeking his counsel. Regardless of whether this senior was benevolent or malevolent, ally or adversary, she intended to exploit him first. At the hospital, Owen instructed his wife to look after their grandson before taking his son to the geomancy association to lodge a complaint. The official responsible for handling such matters at the geomancy association assured him that he would provide an explanation and also summoned Jodie for questioning. Subsequently, Owen began lamenting about his grandson's suffering, requesting this official to find two masters to assist him. He stressed that this issue involved geomancy masters and witchcraft, and the geomancy association couldn't afford to turn a blind eye. The official had no choice but to invite two influential masters from the association to accompany him to the hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital, Owen was greeted by the sight of his grandson with a severely swollen half face, contorted in pain. He asked, "What happened?" Alice replied with a look of helplessness, "He's just incredibly unlucky. Just now, a part of the bed that was supposed to be sturdy suddenly gave way, and he fell onto the bedside table. His face hit the cabinet hard and swelled up. After the anesthesia wore off, and with the twisting just now, he's in excruciating pain." She pointed to Andrew's leg and said, "And for some inexplicable reason, it looks like he's been bitten by some insects. There are several large bumps, and he says it's extremely itchy. He can't scratch himself, so he's been asking Aaron to help him." Aaron was seated by the bed, holding something to alleviate the itch, lending a helping hand. When Andrew saw his grandfather enter, he seemed to see a beacon of hope. In a tear-choked voice, he croaked, "Grandpa, how did it go at the geomancy association? I'm at my wit's end." After the anesthesia wore off, his upper body felt like it was being ripped apart incessantly. After taking the medication, he finally felt a bit better. Little did he know that the ill-fated bed had a defect and collapsed to the side, causing him to roll off. The pain was so intense that he felt like he was on the brink of death. Then, his legs broke out in a rash, causing both pain and itchiness, but he couldn't reach to scratch them. If this continued, he felt like he would eventually lose his mind. At this moment, his resentment towards Jodie reached a new peak. He had never despised her so much before. Owen didn't feel sorry for his grandson's suffering; it was all his own doing. As long as there was no threat to his life, experiencing some hardship and suffering was a good thing. At least, he wouldn't repeat the same foolish mistakes in the future. He turned to the two experts he had invited and said, "Gentlemen, could you please examine my grandson?" Both men were elderly with graying hair, one dressed in religious robes and the other in simple attire. The religiously-robed expert examined Andrew and furrowed his brows, saying, "The energy in his body is in complete chaos; a significant portion of it has been siphoned off by someone. No wonder he's been so unfortunate."The expert in modest attire also took a look and remarked, "It seems that the individual who drained his energy has a strong bond with him. He must have willingly allowed it, so there's no way to reverse it. At least, I'm incapable of doing so." The religious-robed expert concurred, "I'm powerless in his current predicament. If we wish to forcefully resolve it, only a master at the level of a celestial master can accomplish it. Within our entire geomancy association, perhaps only the president, vice president, and Master Shawn are capable of doing so. The president is in seclusion and won't emerge for a while. The vice president is away on business, and we're uncertain when he'll return." He turned to the elderly man and asked, "Are you acquainted with Master Shawn? At this point, you can only seek his assistance." Owen replied helplessly, "Master Bailey mentioned that he's currently preoccupied and can only assist later." No wonder Simone's senior was so arrogant. It turns out that he holds such a distinguished position in the geomancy association. However, the religious-robed expert wasn't surprised and emphasized, "Master Shawn is aloof and acts according to his own whims. It's already quite commendable that he agreed to assist. Typically, he wouldn't readily intervene." Owen had noticed Bailey's indifference before, that he didn't bother to interact with them at all. The reason why Bailey agreed to assist was probably due to his relationship with Simone. He looked at Andrew and remarked, "Therefore, in the end, it's still the biological sister who proves most reliable." Their family generally adopted a hands-off approach when it came to their children and rarely interfered in their affairs, but they never anticipated that their son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren would treat their own daughter/sister so harshly. Otherwise, they would have intervened much earlier. However, by the time they discovered it, it was already too late; they were unable to rectify the situation and lacked the dignity to do so.
