The Heiress' Savage Comeback
As Simone voiced her statement, all eyes in the room swiveled towards her, causing a sharp pang in Jodie's heart. Does Simone know about the pendant? That's impossible. Regaining her composure, she feigned confusion and addressed Simone, "I'm not sure what you're implying. My only intention was to care for Andrew in the hospital and offer him support. Why are you meddling? This doesn't concern you, does it?" Her words were a thinly veiled suggestion for Simone to mind her own business. Simone arched an eyebrow, "Are you feeling threatened? Afraid your misdeeds will come to light?" Jodie gritted her teeth, "I haven't done anything wrong. Don't make baseless accusations." A sense of unease washed over Andrew, prompting him to ask, "Simone, what are you insinuating? Could you clarify?"Simone shifted her gaze to him, "Haven't you noticed that the beads on your bracelet are nearly all shattered?" Andrew hadn't noticed the deteriorating state of his bracelet. Unable to lift his hand, he asked Aaron, "Could you examine the bracelet I'm wearing?" Aaron stepped forward and reached out to remove the bracelet. To his surprise, as soon as he lifted it off Andrew's wrist, the beads began to crumble one by one, scattering onto the floor. Aaron was taken aback, "What's happening?" Wasn't this supposed to be a mystical artifact? How did it break? Jodie's panic escalated at the sight of the crumbling bracelet, a scenario she hadn't anticipated. She surmised that the bracelet's destruction could be attributed to its previous role in suppressing Andrew's bad luck. Quickly regaining her composure, she turned to Simone, "Simone, did you do this? You're so callous! Even if Andrew wasn't as attentive to you as he was to me, you have no right to harm him like this. Without this bracelet to ward off his bad luck, what will become of him? He's still recuperating." She pointed towards the door, "Leave, you're not welcome here." She hoped that Simone and the others would depart swiftly, so she took the initiative. Simone could see the fear and guilt etched on Jodie's face and sneered, "Resorting to the blame game again. Haven't you learned your lesson?" She turned to Andrew and asked, "Do you believe her? Do you think I would tamper with your bracelet?" This time, Andrew wasn't easily swayed. He firmly stated, "I don't believe it. I know your character. If you wanted to confront me, you would do so directly. There's no need for such subterfuge." He also noticed Jodie's desperate attempts to drive Simone away, a clear indication of her guilt. So, what has she done that could harm me? He was eager to uncover the truth. "Simone, why did this bracelet break? Please enlighten me."Simone responded, "It was overloaded with the task of suppressing your bad luck. Once its energy of bringing good luck was depleted, it naturally disintegrated." She posed another question, "Didn't you notice that your streak of bad luck resumed after we arrived at the polo field?" Andrew pondered for a moment, "Indeed, especially after the match commenced, I felt something was amiss." He recalled the numerous slips and falls, the injuries he sustained with every collision. He hadn't given it much thought earlier, but now, upon reflection, it was reminiscent of his initial bout of bad luck in Cebros. His heart clenched, "What's happening? Did Jodie siphon off my luck again?" Jodie's face paled at his accusation, and she hastily retorted, "I didn't." She implored Andrew, "Andrew, please don't listen to Simone's fabrications. She's deliberately trying to sow discord between us." Andrew was already disillusioned with her, and he yearned to uncover the extent of her deceit. With a cold expression, he snapped, "Enough. I only want to hear Simone's explanation now. If you persist with this behavior, you can leave." Jodie's panic intensified, and she attempted to reach out to Andrew, "Andrew, I—" But before she could touch him, Aaron intercepted her, grabbing her arm and pulling her back. His patience was wearing thin, "Jodie Gray, stop causing a scene, or you can leave. The doctor just mentioned that Andrew can't endure any more stress. It could exacerbate his injuries, yet you're trying to grab him. Are you not content with the misery he's already enduring?" Jodie was merely accustomed to using physical affection to maintain their relationship, oblivious to the potential harm it could cause Andrew. Tears streaming down her face, she shook her head, "I-I didn't mean to! I just don't want Andrew to misunderstand me." Aaron frowned, "Whether there's a misunderstanding or not, we'll soon find out. Your desperate attempts to halt this discussion are indicative of your guilt, aren't they?" Jodie attempted to protest, but Andrew interjected, "Hold your tongue for now; let Simone continue." He turned to Simone, "Please proceed." Simone smiled, "It seems you've finally come to your senses." Andrew was momentarily taken aback by her words, interpreting them as a suggestion that he had been naive in the past. This realization led him to another question, "Are you implying that after we arrived at the polo field, Jodie began siphoning off my luck again, in addition to the luck I had previously lent her?" Simone confirmed, "She had exhausted the previous luck, but upon arriving at the polo field, it was forcibly extracted." She pointed to the necklace around his neck, now visible for all to see, "Did she insist on giving you this necklace before we left for the polo field?" At her words, Andrew and Jodie's expressions shifted dramatically. With wide eyes, he asked, "Is this object draining my luck?" Simone retorted, "What else could it be? You didn't think it was a blessing in disguise, did you?" Andrew was momentarily stunned. Then, he mumbled, "When she gave it to me, she claimed it was a protective amulet, insisting that I wear it to the field to ward off any potential harm." Simone scoffed, "Only you would fall for that. Among your brothers, you're the most gullible." She turned to Aaron and asked, "Would you have believed her?" Aaron shook his head, "Absolutely not." He shot Andrew a reproachful look, "Andrew, why can't you remember? She's used these objects to harm you multiple times, yet you continue to trust her. You accept whatever she offers you, and as a result, you're plagued with bad luck." He had been puzzled by Andrew's string of misfortunes since their arrival at the polo field. Now, it was clear that Jodie was once again the culprit. From that moment on, they resolved to be more cautious and vowed never to accept anything from Jodie in the future. Titus and Luca, who were watching the live broadcast, echoed this sentiment. A look of despair washed over Andrew's face, "How was I to know she would be so ruthless?" Now, he realized how naive he had been to believe her claims about the protective amulet. He glared at Jodie, struggling to contain his rage, "No wonder you were so insistent that I wear this necklace as a protective amulet, even becoming angry when I suggested you wear it. So, your intention was to continue draining my luck, making me even more unfortunate and miserable. Jodie Gray, I willingly shared my luck with you. I accepted that, but why did you persist in harming me, exploiting me at every opportunity? Will you only be satisfied when I'm dead?" This was the true nature of the sister he had loved for over a decade—so heartless!
