My Cold-Hearted Ex Is Begging for Me
Easton tried to keep his composure, determined not to be disturbed by her, but for some reason, today he just couldn't manage it. The noise around him seemed to grow louder, and he irritably raised his hand to rub his forehead, only to realize his phone was ringing. Someone was calling him, a number he didn't recognize. After dismissing it several times, and the caller persistently ringing again, Easton considered blocking the number. Then it struck him, his private number was known by very few, and the relentless persistence pointed to one person, Ellis. He swiped to answer, "Ellis?" Using a colleague's phone to call the deadbeat, Ellis hadn't even started speaking when Easton guessed it was her. Skipping any formalities, she snapped, "Are you sick? Give me back my phone—now!" She had stormed out so abruptly that she forgot her phone, and clearly, Easton had no intention of returning it voluntarily. In today's world, who could live without their phone? Buying a new one wasn’t just about the expense, it is the hassle of setting everything up again, not to mention replacing the SIM card.Easton's face darkened at her shouting, "Is that how you speak to me when you’re asking for a divorce?" "I’m not talking about the divorce right now; I want my phone back. I don’t need to be nice!" Ellis lost her patience. "Just give it back!" "Come and get it yourself; I’m at the office." With that, Easton hung up and looked out the window at the sunny day. Before picking up the call, he'd found himself hoping she would say, in a pleading tone. I regret wanting a divorce. It was a ridiculous hope! She was not going to regret it today. Meanwhile, Ellis, who was working at Tate Group, stormed out of the break room, her face flushed with anger. Easton stealing my phone was no different from being a thief! She didn’t want to make a special trip to Hudson Group just to retrieve her phone and thought about asking someone to deliver it for her. But whom I she ask? Former colleagues at Hudson Group?Without her phone, she only remembered the deadbeat’s, Maya's, and Emma’s numbers. No one else could be contacted, so in frustration, she took the afternoon off and headed to Hudson Group. Half an hour later, the security personnel at the Hudson Group headquarters were surprised to see Ellis. Her departure from the company was well-known, and they had been instructed by Jackson that Ellis was not to be admitted. Hesitating for a moment, one guard ventured, "Mrs. Hudson, um..." Even if she was reluctant to come to Hudson Group, it was necessary. Ellis glanced at the guard blocking her way, her expression darkening slightly, "What is it?" "Jackson..." The guard stammered, and Ellis, growing impatient, snapped, "Spit it out, don’t beat around the bush." "Please wait; I'll contact Jackson." Knowing Jackson's instructions was one thing, but offending Ellis was another. The guard quickly contacted Jackson, "Jackson, Mrs. Hudson is here." Caught off-guard while implementing the plans Easton had laid out in the documents, Jackson felt a momentary pang of guilt. "What does Mrs. Hudson want?" "You should talk to Mrs. Hudson," the guard suggested, passing his phone to Ellis without waiting for a response. The guard's action made it clear to Ellis that she had been barred from entering Hudson Group by the deadbeat, yet her status as Easton's wife still held some sway, and the guard clearly didn't want to offend her outright. She didn’t take the guard’s phone, stating emotionlessly, "Tell Jackson that Easton asked me to come." Her voice was normal, but the phone picked it up, and Jackson could hear. He was puzzled. How far had the divorce talks between Easton and Ellis gone? Things had broken down so badly, yet Easton had called her to the office today? He had explicitly instructed not to allow Ellis into the building! Deciding whether to verify with Easton if he had indeed called Ellis presented Jackson with a dilemma.Meanwhile, Ellis, lacking patience, didn’t wait to see if the guard would speak to Jackson and simply walked past him toward the elevators. The guard was in a bind. Stop her or not? The guard felt like being caught in the crossfire of a fierce showdown. Unhindered, Ellis made her way smoothly to the executive office on the top floor. Along the way, everyone who saw her was somewhat startled. Ellis hadn’t changed, but the change in the lady of the house was imminent. Ellis’s formidable presence suggested there might be new drama, providing juicy gossip for others. While others relished the gossip, Jackson was beside himself. Hearing from security that Ellis had gone upstairs, he hurried to the entrance of the executive office to intercept her. "Ms. Harper, are you looking for Mr. Easton? Just a moment, let me check with him," he said, remembering that Easton had instructed him not to refer to her as Easton's wife. He gestured for her to wait out of sight behind the open door.
