My Cold-Hearted Ex Is Begging for Me

Chapter 249 Night of the Living Ex

Still in Ellis's room, Maya heard the entire phone conversation between Ellis and Emma, and couldn't help but comment with a twitch of her lips, "Your ex sure moves fast. He just left here and then went straight to Emma." Ellis struggled not to roll her eyes. "Looks like he's on a mission tonight to go down the list and annoy everyone." "What did he want with Emma?" Maya was curious. "Emma said he was warning her not to set me up with another man to marry." Ellis didn't know how to even begin to describe her ex's behavior; 'crazy' didn't quite cover it. "Speaking of which, your ex comes here, sends you insanely expensive jewelry, then warns Emma... Could it be..." Maya ventured a bold guess based on Easton's actions, "that he regrets the divorce and wants to get back together with you?" As Maya's words hung in the air, a chill seemed to sweep through the room, making Ellis shiver involuntarily as she rubbed her throbbing forehead."Are you trying to tell ghost stories and scare me late at night?" Why would Easton want to remarry her? Wasn't their divorce messy enough? What, he wants a do-over that's even more humiliating? She flopped back onto the bed, rolling around halfheartedly. Maya turned and gently squeezed her shoulders, "I'm not trying to scare you! Think about it, the things your ex has been doing aren't normal. Maybe he really does want to get back together!" "If he tried to remarry me, Victoria would kill him! Besides, there are plenty of women in the world; why would he be hung up on getting back with me?" Ellis scoffed at Maya's horrifying suggestion. "Then how do you explain your ex always coming around?" "How should I know?" "Why don't you find out what's going on with him and Victoria? Maybe Victoria got dumped by Easton, and now he's looking to rebound with you." Maya theorized that Victoria's aggressive pursuit of Ellis must have a deeper reason. One slap wasn't enough for Victoria to seek such revenge, right? Maybe she was dumped by Easton and was taking it out on an innocent third party! Hearing this, Ellis rolled her eyes. "Even if Easton is having a crazy moment and wants to rebound, I wouldn't agree! Digging into his and Victoria's business is just bad luck." She was firmly unconvinced that Easton wanted to remarry her. From any angle, it just didn't seem like Easton wanted to get back together. Easton didn't love her; he had nearly driven her to poverty during their divorce, making it difficult for her to even eat. Plus, remarrying her would bring him no benefits at all! "Why does he keep coming around then? And why bring you those expensive jewels tonight?" Maya was puzzled. Not knowing the exact price of the diamond-studded crown but seeing its obvious luxury, it was clear it wasn't cheap. For a regular person, it was definitely a fortune, and Easton had no reason to suddenly be so generous to his ex-wife without expecting something in return. "It's not the first time he's given me things after our divorce!" Ellis grabbed a pillow, hugging it comfortably. "He even had his assistant set up an apartment for me once, ready to transfer it to my name if I wanted." "When did this happen?" Maya couldn't recall Ellis mentioning it, "Why didn't I know?" "Not too long ago," Ellis sighed, "He said my place in Sunshine Estates wasn't safe, that he thought I was living in a dump and wanted to help me get a safer place." "Ah, your ex is a strange one!" Maya counted on her fingers, "He gives you an apartment, sends you jewelry! If he's not short of money, why didn't he split some assets with you during the divorce? Why wait until after to have a conscience and spend money on you?" "He's more like a nutcase!" "But it seems like he's really latched onto you." Ellis sighed in frustration, "How annoying!" "Let's see, you now have to keep away from..." Maya gestured with three fingers, "You have to reject Morty, watch out for Victoria sending people to beat you up, and deal with your clingy ex!" "Can't these three be locked up? I'd send them all to a mental hospital if I could!" Ellis wasn't joking; if she had the power, she'd seriously consider it. "They can't be locked up; together, they might just lock you up instead," Maya said gravely, not to frighten Ellis but as a caution, "Be careful." Today, Ellis was no different from any regular person, but both Victoria and Easton were tough nuts to crack. Easton might just be clingy, but Victoria was violent, not hesitating to get others involved. "Stop, stop, stop, I don't want to talk about this anymore! The more I hear, the scarier it gets. If I can't sleep tonight, it's all on you." Thinking of sleeplessness, Ellis suddenly remembered Easton climbing into her bed in the middle of the night once, later explaining that he did so because he couldn't sleep.
