I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 64

“So your father never gave the Husband’s Decree to your mother?” Liza asked curiously, her brows furrowed in thought. Gavin chuckled, his eyes gleaming with a trace of amusement. “That’s right. Why the sudden interest? Are you thinking of getting your hands on it?” Caught off guard, Liza froze momentarily, then quickly looked away, flustered. “What are you talking about? I was just curious!” she retorted, her voice defensive. Deep down, she thought to herself, This man’s brain must be malfunctioning! If Lady Edna even suspected she was after such a thing, she’d surely be slandered and cursed to no end. Gavin’s lips curled into a knowing smirk as he studied her. She might appear sharp, but sometimes her obliviousness amused him. She didn’t even realize she already had the decree in her possession. Later, as they went upstairs, Gavin headed straight to his study, his focus shifting to work. There were still documents from the company he hadn’t reviewed and a video conference he needed to lead. Meanwhile, Liza returned to her room on the third floor, idly organizing her belongings. It wasn’t until her stomach grumbled loudly in protest that she realized she was starving. Heading downstairs to find something to eat, she was greeted by an unexpected scene. At the foot of the stairs, Mrs. Stone stood commanding a group of servants as they carried luggage into the villa. Sophia, standing by her side, had a shy flush on her face. “Lady Edna, isn’t it a little inappropriate for me to stay in the same room as Brother Gavin?” Sophia said hesitantly, her voice soft and sweet. Mrs. Stone patted Sophia’s hand affectionately, her expression one of indulgence. “What’s there to be shy about? You and Gavin are engaged. If it weren’t for that unfortunate incident, the two of you would already be married by now. Sharing a room is inevitable—it’s just happening a bit earlier than planned. This way, people won’t have anything to gossip about.” She leaned closer, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Besides, if you don’t stay, that woman will continue sharing a space with him. Are you willing to let her have that advantage?” Sophia’s lips trembled as she bit down on them, her expression conflicted. “I understand, Lady Edna. I know you’re doing this for me. But Brother Gavin… he seems to have already fallen for Miss Liza. I’m afraid if I push too hard, it’ll only make him resent me more.” “You’re overthinking it,” Mrs. Stone said firmly, tapping Sophia’s forehead lightly in a playful scold. “Men are all the same. You’re so stunning—what man wouldn’t be captivated by you?” “Lady Edna…” Sophia whined softly, tugging at Mrs. Stone’s arm with a pout. Seeing her pitiful expression, Mrs. Stone sighed, her resolve softening. “You may be right, Sophia . Gavin seems bewitched by that scheming woman. It may take time for him to see your worth. Forcing the issue now might only irritate him further. For now, it’s best not to rush into sharing his room.” With that, she turned to the servants and instructed them to move Sophia’s belongings to the room adjacent to Gavin’s. The butler, who had been quietly observing from the side, hesitated but ultimately said nothing, his expression unreadable. It was clear that neither Sophia’s request to share a room with Gavin nor her desire to take the room next to his could be granted. On the third floor of the villa, there was only one master bedroom, and it already belonged to Liza. Recently, Gavin had also been staying there with her. Moving Sophia into a room so close to him was out of the question. Sophia clenched her hands into fists as she remembered her previous visit to the villa. Back then, she had seen Gavin and Liza emerge from the third floor together. A wave of bitterness and frustration washed over her, and with tears welling up in her eyes, she turned to Lady Edna. "Lady Edna… Brother Gavin is staying on the third floor… And that woman is staying there too." "What?!" Lady Edna’s voice rose sharply as she abruptly stood from her seat, her expression twisted in disbelief. "That shameless girl is sharing a room with Gavin? That’s impossible! Gavin hates anyone invading his personal space! Butler, go upstairs this instant and throw that woman’s belongings out of his room! Wan’er, don’t worry, I’ll make sure this situation is dealt with immediately." The butler hesitated for a moment before speaking cautiously. "Young Madam has been staying in the master bedroom ever since she arrived." The implication was clear: even Gavin, known for being fiercely territorial, had willingly allowed Liza to share his personal space. What right, then, did Lady Edna—a mother with no real bond to her son—have to demand Liza leave? Lady Edna opened her mouth to respond, but before she could, Sophia’s expression shifted dramatically. Her face turned pale, and her trembling gaze lifted toward the stairs. “Miss Liza… You’re here…” she stammered, her voice laced with feigned innocence. “I… I didn’t mean to take your room. Please don’t misunderstand…”Hearing this, everyone turned toward the staircase. Liza stood there, casually leaning against the railing with her arms crossed, her posture relaxed and her expression amused. It was clear she had been silently watching the unfolding drama as if it were a performance staged for her entertainment. The sight of Liza’s calm defiance only fueled Lady Edna’s fury. She glared at her and barked out a command. "Liza, since you’re here, let me make this clear. You’re unworthy of staying in the master bedroom with your status. I’m giving you one chance—pack your things and leave the room immediately. If you comply, I won’t press the matter further. But if you refuse…" She paused, her tone dripping with contempt. "Don’t blame me for showing no mercy." Liza raised an eyebrow, the corners of her lips curling into a faint smile. No mercy? she thought to herself. Since when has Lady Edna ever shown me any mercy or respect? Lady Edna, confident in her assumed authority, pulled Sophia to sit beside her on the sofa. She picked up her teacup, sipping leisurely as though the matter was already settled. Her posture screamed arrogance, as if she didn’t believe for a second that Liza would dare to defy her. Meanwhile, Liza rubbed her temples and let out a small sigh. The scene before her was not only absurd but also deeply irritating. What should I do? she thought, her gaze fixed on Lady Edna and Sophia. Looking at them is really starting to ruin my mood…
