I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 33

Mason raised his hand decisively, his expression firm. “Chancellor Li, you can’t make baseless claims. When did Ruby co ever acknowledge Serena as her disciple?” Chancellor Li hesitated, fumbling for an explanation. “Well, before this…” “Before is before; now is now,” Mason interrupted coldly. His serious demeanor was imposing. “I was the one who introduced Ruby co to Li City University as a temporary instructor. As a teacher, it was her duty to guide students. But if every student she’s ever taught claimed to be her disciple, how could she possibly accept them all?” The room fell silent as Mason’s words sank in. Few people knew that Ruby co had once served as a substitute teacher at the university. Even then, all her lessons were conducted online, and she had never appeared in person before her students. Gavin, standing to the side, frowned slightly at the mention of Serena’s name. If his memory served him right, Liza’s younger sister was also named Serena. Feeling cornered, Chancellor Li gave an awkward smile and nodded quickly. “Yes, yes, you’re absolutely right. I misspoke. My apologies for the misunderstanding.” As the fashion design competition was about to begin, Chancellor Li rose from his seat and politely excused himself. While Gavin would only need to appear as a judge during the final round, the chancellor had a duty to cheer on the students during the preliminary stages. Once the university leaders left the room, Mason slumped into a chair, exhaling dramatically. “Brother Gavin, why don’t I secretly arrange for you to meet Ruby co? That way, you can discuss the collaboration directly with her.” Gavin adjusted his suit and stood, his expression unreadable. “No need. I have something else to take care of.” Mason tilted his head curiously. “Where are you off to?” “To see my wife.”“Your wife…” Mason repeated, trailing off. A second later, he shot upright. “Wait, what?! Brother Gavin, did you just say wife?!” Gavin gave him no reply, already heading for the door. George, ever the reliable assistant, stepped in to clarify. “The president and Madam recently registered their marriage.” “Bullsh*t! Don’t mess with me!” Mason exclaimed, pointing an accusing finger at George. “Didn’t the daughter of the that family run off on the day of their wedding? If the bride fled, who the hell did Brother Gavin marry?!” Adjusting his glasses calmly, George responded, “Someone you don’t know.” Mason stared, dumbfounded. “…” Unbothered by Mason’s disbelief, George hurried after Gavin, who gave his next instruction without breaking stride. “Tell her to meet me in the car.” George hesitated for a moment. “But won’t it be inconvenient for Madam? She’s a student in the fashion design department and should be participating in the competition.” Gavin didn’t respond, his silence a clear dismissal. George sighed, touched the bridge of his nose, and reached for his phone to call Liza. But before he could dial, his phone buzzed with an incoming call. “Where are you guys? I have time to show you around the university now,” Liza said casually on the line. Surprised, George asked, “Madam, aren’t you participating in the competition?” There was a brief pause before Liza replied, “It’s not time for me to make an appearance yet.” Though her words left George puzzled, he didn’t press further and instead relayed their location. About ten minutes later, Liza strolled toward them, her hands tucked casually into her pockets. Spotting her from a distance, George blinked, unsure. “Is that… Madam?”Gavin followed his assistant’s gaze. His sharp eyes landed on Liza, and for a moment, his expression froze, an unreadable flicker passing through his deep gaze. The woman approaching exuded a calm yet commanding presence. She was dressed in a tailored outfit cinched at the waist, accentuating her slender figure. Her long legs moved with effortless grace, her pace unhurried but confident. The sun cast a golden glow over her, highlighting her porcelain skin that almost seemed to radiate. As she drew nearer, her features became more distinct. She had a sharp, elegant nose, vibrant red lips, and slightly arched brows that conveyed a quiet intensity. There was an air of authority about her, subtle yet impossible to ignore. George, standing by the car, felt a shiver run down his spine. Without delay, he hurried to open the car door, his demeanor instantly respectful. “Madam…” he greeted softly, bowing his head slightly. Liza paused, her eyes flicking to him with a hint of hesitation. Just as she was about to step into the car, she stopped, tilting her head to the side. In a low voice, she asked, “Is Gavin… in a good mood today?” George froze for a moment, then nodded cautiously. “I think so.” Her brow twitched in mild irritation. What kind of answer is that? It told her nothing. Still, she decided to proceed—if Gavin was in a bad mood, she’d deal with it when the time came. With a small sigh, she bent down and slid into the car. Inside, Gavin’s sharp gaze was already on her, having noticed her earlier moment of hesitation. As Liza settled into the seat beside him, his lips curled into a faint, almost mocking snort. She glanced at him, a flicker of unease crossing her face. The door was still ajar; she could escape if needed. But before she could act on the thought, the sound of the car door slamming shut made her flinch slightly. From outside, George had firmly closed the door, sealing her fate. Liza sighed inwardly.Gavin’s voice broke the silence, laced with mild amusement. “What are you so nervous about? Do you think I’d eat you?” Choosing discretion over argument, Liza kept quiet, sitting stiffly as if weighing her options. With a soft click, Gavin lowered the small fold-out table in the back seat. From beneath it, he pulled out an intricately wrapped lunch box, placing it on the table with practiced ease. The smell of freshly prepared food filled the car as he opened the container. Liza couldn’t help but glance at the contents, her curiosity piqued by the delicious aroma. “Aren’t you supposed to be touring the university?” she asked, her tone casual. Gavin didn’t bother looking up as he began to eat. “Do you have any idea what time it is? You expect me to wander around the campus on an empty stomach?” Startled, Liza pulled out her phone to check the time. The screen lit up, and she immediately fell silent.
