I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 203

Grandpa stone’s face darkened as he glared at Liza. “How did the Stone Family end up with a daughter-in-law like you? Hand over the Jinchuan Grass immediately! If anything happens to Grandpa Reed because of your selfishness, I won’t hesitate to cripple you myself!” The room grew tense, and Mr. Robert’s expression turned icy. He opened his mouth to speak, but Liza took a step forward before he could. With a deep sigh and a sorrowful look, she pulled out a delicate bag and handed it to Mr. Robert. Her voice was soft, tinged with regret. “Mr. Robert, it’s not that I’m unwilling to help. The truth is, the Jinchuan Grass has already been destroyed. I gave everything I had to Gavin, but it’s all been ruined. There’s nothing left for me to offer.” Mr. Robert opened the bag carefully, revealing a few crushed fragments of Jinchuan Grass. The crowd stared in shock as Liza continued, her sorrowful gaze shifting to Sophia. “Mr. Robert, Gavin’s health depends on the Jinchuan Grass as well, but even he couldn’t benefit from it. Every stalk was destroyed before it could even mature. What’s left is in that bag.” Mr. Robert held up the broken remains for all to see, his expression hardening. “Destroyed? Who would dare do something so reckless?” Gavin, standing to the side, let out a faint smirk. He knew full well that Mr. Robert had recognized Liza the moment he walked in but had chosen to play along with her plan. Meanwhile, Sophia’s heart sank as she stared at the ruined herbs in Mr. Robert’s hands. Her chest tightened with an ominous feeling. Liza sighed heavily and turned back to Mr. Robert. “Mr. Robert, I planted the Jinchuan Grass myself in the backyard of Longwan Residential and took great care of it. But one day, Miss Sophia drove into the yard without regard for anything. She completely ignored the butler’s attempts to stop her. She knew how important the plants were to me, but she still deliberately crushed them all. Not a single stalk survived.” Her tone turned sharper, and she added, “If you don’t believe me, I can show you the surveillance footage from that day.” Sophia’s body trembled, her legs suddenly weak beneath her. What? Her mind spun as Liza’s words sank in. The herbs she had carelessly trampled that day were Jinchuan Grass? Before Sophia could recover, Liza continued in an unhurried tone, her words cutting like a blade. “Jinchuan Grass is incredibly rare and valuable. Despite that, Miss Sophia refused to compensate me for the loss. I was so furious that I ordered someone to damage her cars in retaliation. But even then, she refused to acknowledge her fault. She claimed the plants were worthless and accused me of being malicious.” Liza’s gaze swept over the room as she concluded, “Now, because of Miss Sophia ’s actions, the Jinchuan Grass is completely gone. Meanwhile, rumors are spreading that Gavin still has it. These rumors paint him as selfish and ungrateful, when in reality, the blame lies with Miss Sophia . Her thoughts and actions are truly malicious.” Turning back to Mr. Robert, she said, “Mr. Robert, I leave this matter in your hands. Please, judge fairly.” The room was silent as everyone processed what they had just heard. It became clear to all that Sophia had intentionally destroyed the Jinchuan Grass and spread false rumors about Gavin. She had orchestrated the entire situation, all for her own selfish gain. “This is a lie! How could the flowers and plants in the backyard possibly be Jinchuan Grass?” Sophia’s thoughts raced. How could that be true? Her grandfather had spent years searching for even a single stalk of the rare herb without success. How could Liza have not only obtained it but managed to cultivate over a hundred stalks? As disbelief clouded her mind and she prepared to defend herself, Mr. Robert’s calm but sharp voice interrupted her. “ Sophia ,” he began slowly, his tone cold, “are you the one who destroyed the hundred stalks of Jinchuan Grass? And now, even though there’s nothing left, you’re still pressuring Gavin and Liza to produce it? Tell me, what exactly are you trying to achieve?” His words landed like a heavy blow, and the room fell silent. Mr. Robert continued, his gaze unwavering. “The backyard of Longwan Residential has an ideal environment for growing rare herbs. I personally scattered the seeds there and entrusted Liza to care for them on my behalf. After a long period of careful nurturing, they finally sprouted. But now, they’ve all been ruined.” His voice hardened, and his piercing eyes fixed on Sophia. “Miss Sophia , you owe me an explanation. Why did you destroy the Jinchuan Grass?” Sophia’s face turned ghostly pale. Her mind went blank, and panic began to take over. It was over. She was in deep trouble.Liza, standing gracefully to the side, let out a soft sigh before speaking. Her voice carried a hint of sadness, yet there was an unmistakable strength in her words. “Grandpa stone, Lady Edna,” she began, addressing the two elders, “Gavin had intended to wait until the Jinchuan Grass was fully matured before sharing it. He planned to give it to you both and even distribute some to the Stone Family’s relatives and friends as a sign of his filial devotion. Never once did he think of keeping it all for himself.” She paused, letting her words sink in before continuing. “But now, the Jinchuan Grass is gone, crushed under Miss Sophia ’s carelessness. Yet, no one holds her accountable. Instead, Gavin is being unfairly pressured to hand over something that no longer exists. And as if that weren’t enough, you’ve even threatened to expel me from the Stone Family.” Her voice grew softer, tinged with hurt, as she added, “I feel so wronged. For so long, I’ve poured my efforts into caring for the Jinchuan Grass, all with the intention of sharing it with everyone here. But it seems that none of you truly wanted it. Instead, you’ve chosen to overlook Miss Sophia ’s actions as though she has done nothing wrong.” Liza turned to Mr. Robert with an imploring look. “Mr. Robert, I need your support. If an apology is what it takes to mend this situation, I am willing to apologize. But I hope you can help prove to everyone that Gavin and I were never unwilling to share the Jinchuan Grass with the family.” A heavy silence enveloped the room. All eyes turned toward Sophia, and the atmosphere grew thick with resentment. The realization dawned on everyone present: the entire ordeal had been caused by Sophia. Her reckless actions had destroyed more than a hundred stalks of the precious herb, leaving nothing behind. Anger flared in their hearts as their glares bore into her, their emotions a mix of disappointment and fury. “It’s all her fault,” someone muttered under their breath. “She ruined everything,” another hissed, their voice trembling with barely contained rage. Sophia stumbled back a few steps, her entire body trembling as fear gripped her. Liza’s words had been calculated and precise, shifting the full weight of everyone’s anger onto Sophia. By revealing that the Jinchuan Grass had been meant for all of them, Liza had turned the room against her entirely. Now, even Grandpa stone and Lady Edna, who had initially been on Sophia’s side, looked away coldly, unwilling to defend her any longer.
