I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle
Lizas POV Miss Serena is so mature and sensible, even though she's the younger sister. She's more like the elder one in this situation. Why did the Sinclair family bother to bring Liza back from the countryside? Couldn't they have just sent her some money and left her there? She's such a disgrace. Exactly. From now on, if I see the eldest Miss Sinclair somewhere, I'm walking the other way. Who knows what kind of bad luck she'll bring? The cruel comments hung heavily in the air but I didn't flinch. Instead, my gaze sharpened as it fell directly on Serena whose innocent facade was beginning to crack ever so slightly. My lips curved into a faint, enigmatic smile. Is this your plan, Serena? Stirring people up to attack me? The innocence was back on her face as she blinked rapidly, tilting her head as if hurt by the accusation. Sister, I don't know what you're talking about. She paused, her tone softening with concern. I understand that you're eager to contribute to the family, but some things take time. Don't worry about this, I'll handle it for you. I couldn't help but chuckle. It was a humorless sound that silenced the room. This? This doesn't even cross my mind as something to worry about. I ran my fingers over the strings again, unbothered. The store was mine after all. Why did it matter if I touched something or played it? The onlookers, however, didn't look impressed. Their irritation bubbled over. Who does she think she is?One of them muttered. She's acting like she owns the place! Such arrogance! She doesn't even realize she's the problem, another chimed in. Amidst the growing tension, Serenas eyes shimmered with unshed tears. Sister, how could you say that…her voice quivered, every word dripping with a practiced vulnerability that tugged at the crowds sympathies. Brandon scolded me again. Liza, have you completely lost your sense of decency? You came back from the countryside but that doesn't excuse you from understanding basic gratitude. The Sinclair family worked hard to reintegrate you into society. They hired countless etiquette teachers for you, and this is how you repay them? Apologize to Serena immediately! The murmurs intensified. I've heard the eldest Miss Sinclair is useless, but seeing her in person confirms it.One person beside me sneered. She'll ruin the Sinclair Corporation if it ever falls into her hands, another remarked coldly. The snide remarks grew louder and the crowds mood became more hostile. Suddenly, someone exclaimed. Isn't that Mr. Peter? He's here to take care of this mess for Miss Serena, right? She's so kind and gentle, always at a disadvantage against people like her sister. Exactly! Mr. Peter wouldn't bother coming here unless it was something important. This must be because of Miss Serena. The murmurs shifted as a middle-aged man in a tailored suit pushed through the crowd, breathing heavily. It was Mr. Peter, the store manager. Apologies for being late, Miss Serena, his tone was respectful, but his focus was entirely on me. Serena turned to him, her voice trembling and making her appear even more fragile. Mr. Peter, there's no need to trouble yourself. I've already done my best to calm the customers… Instead of replying, Mr. Peter walked past Serena and stopped in front of me. I merely smiled faintly, my eyes glinting with amusement. He smiled anxiously and said with sincerity. I'm sorry I was late, Eldest Miss.Without waiting for my reply, he looked at the staff and demanded. Why are you all here? Bring Eldest Miss some tea right away! Is this how you greet her on her first visit to check out the store? The room suddenly fell into a hushed silence. Everyone looked at each other in shock and confusion. They must be wondering why Mr. Peter ignored Serena and why he just called me Eldest Miss. I saw Serena tensed up, panic surging through her. She must also be wondering why Mr. Peter was showing me so much respect. She must think this was a huge mistake. She was the Sinclair family's beloved daughter and me on the other hand was just a weak nobody, despite how I had come to claim the title of Eldest Missagain after my return. Someone in the crowd spoke up. Mr. Peter, you have the wrong person. That woman is just the daughter who was left behind and who grew up in the countryside. She doesn't have any power here. Miss Serena is your boss.Mr. Peter turned to her with an angry stare. What nonsense are you spouting? He sounded furious at the person who spoke. Miss Serena is my boss? Of course not! They all gasped. Miss Liza is our direct boss and she is the true owner of this shop! The room fell into a stunned silence as they all turned to look at Serena with shocked expression.
