I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 163

Gavin’s voice was calm and steady as he spoke. “Whoever dares to bully you, I’ll take care of them for you.” Liza’s heart warmed at his words, an indescribable emotion stirring within her. Gavin always seemed to go out of his way to protect her, to shield her from harm. Did he care so much for her just because she was his wife? As she mulled over this thought, Gavin glanced at her. A faint, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corners of his lips. George’s words echoed in his mind. Women like gentle men. If he stepped in to protect her when she was being mistreated, she would surely develop feelings for him. For once, George might actually be right. … The car pulled to a smooth stop at Longwan Residential. Before Liza could step out, her gaze fell on a delicate figure standing in the driveway. Audrey was dressed in a flowing white muslin dress that swayed gently in the wind. Her long, soft hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing her face. Light makeup gave her an air of fragility, making her seem as if she might shatter at the slightest touch. Her melancholic expression tugged at the heart, as though she were silently pleading for comfort. When she spotted Gavin’s car, Audrey’s eyes filled with sorrow as she walked hesitantly toward them. “Brother Gavin, I…” Before she could finish her sentence, Gavin stepped on the gas and sped forward, forcing her to stumble back in shock. The car whizzed past her so closely that it almost grazed her. Liza turned to Gavin, wide-eyed. “You nearly hit her!” His expression remained unbothered as he brought the car to a stop. “Really? I didn’t see anyone there.” Liza gawked at him in disbelief. “Where did you learn to lie so effortlessly?”“She’s probably here to apologize,” Liza continued, gesturing toward the woman still standing in the driveway. “Are you just going to leave her out there?” Gavin removed his jacket, his brow furrowing slightly. “I don’t have time for her apologies. This is my home, and I have every right to refuse her entry.” Liza glanced back at Audrey, who stood trembling in the cold. Her tear-streaked face and fluttering dress made her look even more pitiful. Turning back to Gavin, she teased with a smirk, “Look at her standing there all alone. Don’t you feel even the slightest bit sorry for her? Don’t you want to go over and comfort her?” Gavin nodded absentmindedly. The smirk vanished from Liza’s face. Her mouth fell open. Wait… what? She had only been joking, testing his reaction. She hadn’t expected him to actually consider comforting Audrey. Meanwhile, Audrey continued to shiver in the cold wind, tears slipping down her pale cheeks. Liza couldn’t help but grit her teeth in frustration. If Gavin dared to walk over to her and offer comfort, she’d demand a divorce on the spot! Gavin broke the silence, his voice calm. “Actually… I did forget something.” Liza’s eyes narrowed as she glared at him, her irritation growing. What was he up to now? Then, as if reading her thoughts, Gavin added, “We haven’t punished her yet. Since she’s here, we might as well deal with her.” Liza blinked, stunned. “…What?” Gavin’s expression remained indifferent. “She caused trouble before. If she’s willing to come here, she should be prepared to face the consequences. Let’s give her what she deserves.” Liza was at a loss for words. This man… was truly something else. While most people might have softened at Audrey’s delicate demeanor, Gavin had no sympathy to spare. Instead of offering comfort, he was ready to confront her head-on. Liza couldn’t help but picture the scene in her head: Audrey crying and trembling, only to be met with Gavin’s cold, unrelenting judgment. The more she cried, the harsher he would be. As Liza stood to head back to her room, Gavin’s deep voice filled the air, calm yet firm. “Mrs. Liza, there’s no need for these little tests in the future. I can see through Audrey’s schemes at a glance. You don’t have to gauge my reaction.” Liza paused, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. The corners of Gavin’s lips lifted into a faint smirk. “Rest assured, Mrs. Liza. Whether it’s Audrey or Sophia, I’ve already figured them out completely. I’m not someone who can be swayed by such superficial tricks.” It seemed Gavin had noticed her earlier doubts. Perhaps she had genuinely believed he might go and console Audrey, but he wanted to make his stance perfectly clear. Not only did he have no affection for Audrey, but the very thought of her filled him with disdain. He had already decided that it was time for Audrey to face consequences. Using family law to deal with her seemed more than fitting. Liza felt a surge of warmth in her chest. She hesitated briefly, then walked over to Gavin with a faint smile on her lips. “Gavin, you’re so good to me.” Inwardly, she made a mental note: I should stop calling him a bastard. Gavin let out a light snort, then changed the subject. “Are you hungry?” Liza nodded eagerly. “I am! I wonder what delicious dishes the butler prepared tonight.” Gavin glanced at her and replied casually, “The servants are on holiday today. They didn’t make dinner.”Her excitement faltered. She had completely forgotten about the staff holiday. But then, realization hit her—she couldn’t cook! Gavin seemed to read her mind. His tone was unhurried as he said, “Mrs. Liza, I don’t think you’ve ever had the chance to try my cooking, have you?” Liza blinked, taken aback. Could Gavin actually cook? Her expression shifted from surprise to delight as she processed his words. The idea of the usually composed and commanding Gavin in the kitchen was almost too amusing. “You’re going to cook for me?” she asked, excitement lighting up her face. Gavin walked to the fridge and opened it, inspecting the contents before turning to her. “What would you like to eat?” Liza hurried over, her eyes scanning the fridge shelves. “Can I really choose anything I want?” Gavin paused briefly, then gave a small nod. “Yes, anything.”Inwardly, he reminded himself that if she picked something complicated, he could always consult a recipe. However, Liza misinterpreted his confidence. She immediately assumed his culinary skills must be top-notch. With growing anticipation, she listed a few of her favorite dishes and then glanced at him expectantly. A playful smile danced on her lips. “Gavin, since you’re cooking for me, shouldn’t I reward you with a kiss?”
