I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 105

Victoria let out a heavy sigh, her expression laced with concern. “I can’t make sense of it either. But one thing is certain—if it had been Serena instead of Liza, we wouldn’t be facing this mess. Serena is so well-behaved. Back when she held the position of the Sinclair Family’s eldest daughter, she never caused any trouble. She even earned herself a good reputation.” Hearing Serena’s name, Mr Sinclair’s eyes brightened as if a realization had struck him. “I understand now! “Those two people must be mistaken. They know the eldest daughter of the Sinclair Family is supposed to be upright and virtuous, but they don’t realize that the title has shifted. They must have confused Liza for Serena! That’s the only explanation for why those two were so eager to help Liza. Special Assistant George works for the Stone Family, and Serena is the Stone Family’s future granddaughter-in-law. George must have thought it was Serena in trouble and rushed to her aid! “This is all part of Liza’s plan! She must have told Special Assistant George that she’s Brandon’s fiancée. Technically, that’s still true since the engagement hasn’t been formally annulled. When George looked into it, he probably found everything Liza said was accurate. That’s why he threw his support behind her without hesitation. That scheming girl is exploiting Serena’s status! She’s stolen her rightful place!” Victoria’s expression darkened, and she cast her eyes downward as though weighed down by her thoughts. Speaking in a tone heavy with grievance, she murmured, “I’m not asking for much anymore. All I hope is that Liza will leave Brandon alone. Serena is my everything. I could give up the Sinclair Family and anything else for her, but if she loses Brandon, I fear she won’t survive the heartbreak.” Moved by Victoria’s apparent despair, Mr Sinclair pulled her into a comforting embrace. “Don’t worry,” he reassured her, his tone filled with determination. “Serena is our daughter. No one will take away what rightfully belongs to her. I’ll arrange for her to meet these influential figures soon and clear everything up. Once that’s done, the Sinclair Family’s position will only rise, and no one will dare look down on us again!”He spoke with absolute conviction. To him, the marriage between the Sinclair and Stone families was set in stone—an unchangeable arrangement. Although the engagement had originally been arranged by Liza’s late mother, the rights to those decisions now fell to the living, and he had no qualms about reshaping them as he saw fit. Mr Sinclair’s plan was simple: Serena, not Liza, would marry into the Stone Family. Serena already had a close relationship with Brandon. If he were forced to marry Liza, Brandon might feel nothing but disdain. To avoid creating discord between the two families and to secure their future, they would ensure Serena took Liza’s place. It was the only logical path forward in his mind. … As Liza walked alongside George, she suddenly paused, her gaze curious. “You’ve got quite the presence for an assistant. People seem to fear you quite a bit.” George scratched the back of his head, a sheepish smile creeping onto his face. “Madam, you might not be aware, but I have a bit of a history. I’m a retired officer from the army. Back then, people used to call me ‘Deputy Song.’ When I started working under President Gavin, the nickname followed me. However, since I’ve left the military, it felt odd to keep the title, so people started calling me ‘Special Assistant Song’ instead.” He smirked slightly before adding, “Though the name’s different, my past hasn’t been forgotten. Between my background and my connection with President Gavin, most people think twice before stepping out of line around me.” Liza raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “I see. That explains a lot.” Her expression was unreadable, making George shift uncomfortably. Unable to decipher her thoughts, he asked cautiously, “Shall we head home now, Madam?” She nodded in response, and after ensuring Liza was safely seated in the car, George pulled out his phone. His voice trembled slightly as he reported to Gavin, “President Gavin, Madam seemed a bit… curious about the respect I receive as your assistant. I casually mentioned my previous military role, but her reaction was so strange. Do you think she suspects something?” Gavin, unbothered by George’s apparent panic, asked calmly, “She wasn’t mistreated at the Sinclair Corporation, was she?” George blinked in confusion. “Pardon?” His concern about Madam’s suspicions seemed to fall on deaf ears. Gavin’s tone hardened, repeating his question. “Did the Sinclair Family give her a hard time?” George hesitated for a moment, unsure how to answer. His brief silence was enough to provoke a sharp response. “You let her be bullied?” Gavin’s voice grew colder, the edge unmistakable. “Has your competence declined after all this time? Are you getting too old to manage things and thinking of early retirement?” George, who hadn’t yet hit 30, felt a metaphorical arrow pierce his chest. “...” He silently fumed. Why was he being insulted for something that wasn’t even his fault?Still, a nagging thought crept into his mind. Madam was sharp—far too sharp. Whatever secrets President Gavin intended to keep hidden, it was only a matter of time before she pieced everything together. George had hoped this call would help Gavin prepare for the inevitable, but it seemed the boss wasn’t taking it seriously at all.
