Chapter 379 Gamma's Job-description

Joseph’s p.o.v. I take the plate from Jocelyn’s outstretched hand and I scoot back a little to lean against the side of a SUV, smiling as I see some of my favorite dishes on the plate. The food tastes as good as it does back home and I know I will ask Pappi to make me some of his famous stew, I can’t wait to have a conversation with him again. He might be one hundred and sixty seven years old, but there is nothing wrong with his health. Mom sometimes jokes about him out living all of us, but I also know that Mom hopes that Pappi will be with us for a very long time. I let my mind wander back to my childhood, a childhood that began when Mom and Dad adopted me at the age of five and I will be forever grateful that they raised me. My family grew exponentially after the adoption and besides Pappi, Aunt Eos is my favorite. She taught me how to be a Warrior, she loved teaching me and Griffin and I will always have a special place in her heart. Griffin never explained to either one of us why he wanted Aunt Eos there for our first shift, but it meant the world to her. Uncle Apollo taught me everything I needed to know to become an excellent Gamma, but I really hated the theoretical part of my studies. I still believe that he enjoyed torturing me with all the books he made me read and with every test he made me take. **Flashback** “Joseph, I want you to read chapter ten of this book. There will be a test, so I suggest you get to it.” Uncle Apollo says, holding out a book towards me and Griffin is groaning in my head. I take the book from him with a sigh and walk up to the room that I share with Inti. I dump the book on my desk and crash on my bed, face down. “Something wrong, Joseph?” Inti asks from somewhere in the room and all I manage to do is growl. “That bad, huh. I doubt Apollo is making you read an entire law book, that Mother of yours is brutal.” Inti replies to my growl and I slowly turn my head towards him, my eyes widening at the size of the book he is holding. I made a vow to myself that day, to never complain about my studies ever again. I get up from my bed and grab the book Uncle Apollo gave me, sitting down on my bed to read chapter ten. Inti and I sit in silence as I open the book to chapter ten; The responsibilities of a Gamma. I start reading about the responsibilities a Gamma has to his Alpha and Pack, I really enjoy reading through everything that is expected from a Gamma. I never wanted to become an Alpha, that was the wish of my birth parents and I am glad that Mom and Dad allowed me to make my own future. My brows furrow at the subtitle of this part of chapter ten, Protector of the Luna. Why would a Gamma need to protect the Luna, isn’t that the job of the Alpha, her Mate?A Gamma is to protect his Luna from all harm, his first priority will always be to his Luna. Danger for a Luna can come from all sides; a jealous female, a jealous male or even her own Mate. For a Gamma to be able to protect his Luna at all costs, an Alpha order will never affect a Gamma. There is a catch to this rule, only a Gamma born to at least one Gamma parent or to a parent of a higher rank is unaffected by an Alpha order. I read through the rest of the chapter and show it to Inti, who is as confused as I am. Why would an Alpha harm his own Mate? **End Flashback** I remember having a discussion on this matter with Mom and Aunt Ione, both of them gave me examples of Alphas that tried to use their power against their own Mate. I was even given files to read through, so that I could understand why a Luna might need protection from her Mate. “No, it is not safe. You can’t run alongside the convoy.” I hear Inti growl and I see him standing a few feet away with Jocelyn and Indigo.Neither one of them is looking too happy at Inti and I look at Herold for some answers, “They want to run in Wolf form tonight.” Herold explains through the mind-link and Griffin pushes forwards, as we walk in their direction. “Alpha is right, you have been running for too long and with a minimum of food. It is too dangerous for the two of you to be out there.” Griffin growls and Jocelyn looks straight into his eyes. “Good thing that neither of you have a say in the matter. Either we run tonight alongside the convoy or we will make our own way to White Mountain Pack, Golden Boy.” Jocelyn growls and I am amazed at her aura. “Think of something, you Idiot. They can’t go off on their own.” Griffin yells at me. “You are the one that agrees with Inti, the two of you caused this and now you want me to solve it.” I respond, but I know that I can’t let them leave in good conscience. “Jocelyn, I understand that you want to let your Wolf out. I also hope that you can understand that Inti and Griffin are concerned, they just want to make sure that both of you can keep up. What if we try to find a compromise?” I ask and I see all three of them looking at me. I am trying to think of a compromise, but I can’t think of one that will keep both parties happy. That is until my attention gets drawn to Jenna, I might have found the answer. “Okay, how about this? You and Indigo can each let your Wolf run half of the distance, the other will stay in the SUV to look after Jenna and Faye.” I make my suggestion and for a moment I fear she might punch my lights out.
