The Council's Arcane Academy
Josy I feel it the moment Mano leaves the bed, and I call out to the boys the moment I am in his arms. I have so many questions for him, but I will allow him to ask questions first. I inform Alice that Mano woke up as I head downstairs to get us breakfast, and I run into Lance when I exit the kitchen. "Mano finally woke up," I say as I walk past him. Ivan and Malik have set the table by the time I walk in, and a second later Argos is standing behind me. "A little birdy told me that Mano is awake," he says, and through the mind-link I tell him that Mano is my fated Mate; he pulls me in for a hug. I am glad I have nothing in my hands as I hear Mano roar, but I am glad I can calm him down quickly. I feel Mano tense the moment I tell him he was unconscious for two weeks, and I feel him relax just a little when Argos leaves with Ivan and Malik. I expect him to tell me what is going on, but he surprises me when his lips touch mine, and I moan as his tongue touches mine. I see the stunned look on his face when I talk about Alpha Lakota and the fact that I can smell the difference between a few types of shifters. I smile when he confirms that he is a Grizzly Bear, but I am still surprised he gave me his family heirloom. I will treasure it until the day our Son finds his fated Mate, if we are lucky enough to have Pups. "Or cubs," Chai exclaims, and I smile as I think of little cubs running around. I hear voices coming from the Alpha office, and I pull Romano with me as I enter the office. "Thank you, Josy. We will take it from here," Lance says, and I stifle a smile as Mano growls at him. "Mano, take it easy. I didn't tell them everything," I say. He pulls me against his body, and I hear Lance mutter Fuck as Mano buries his face in my hair. "Colton, will you close the door?" Lakota asks before she turns towards us. "Congratulations, Josy. Romano, you better treat that girl right or you will have to answer to a lot of Pack-members," she says as she gestures towards the sitting area of the office. Mano sits down in an armchair with me in his arms; I snuggle into his arms as the rest sits down as well, and I smile as Lance pulls Lakota onto his lap. "Alpha Lakota, first of all thank you for taking care of my Nephews and for taking us in," Mano says. "Romano, I didn't do much. Josy made sure you were brought to the infirmary, and she took her Sister Jazzy with her to find your Nephews. Josy took them in and looked after them; I doubt there was anyone that could have said or done anything to change her mind. She asked Alice if you could be moved to her Quarters, to make sure Ivan and Malik could see you every day and to look after you herself," Lakota states, and he kisses me on my cheek before he thanks me. "Don't flatter yourself, Romano. She would have done it for anyone. Well, as long as she feels good about someone that is," Colton blurts out, and Cian smacks him on the back of his head. Mano looks between the males and I see the mischievous look in his eyes. "Alpha, how is it possible your Pack still exists?" he asks. Before she can answer he continues, "With juveniles like that." Quinn bursts out in laughter as both males stare at Mano, and I hide my face in his chest, but I think they can tell I am laughing my ass off. "Romano, I ask myself that question from time to time. Truthfully, they are not that bad. I just think we forgot to give them their medicine," Lakota answers. I hear everyone laughing and I can feel that Mano is laughing too. Once we have all calmed down, Mano tells us what happened to his family. "I think I know what they were looking for, and I have this feeling they won't give up easily," he says as he places the small bag on the table in front of us, and I know what is in there without having to open it. "These journals were written by my ancestors; my Sister took over from our Mother, and now I guess I have to take over that tradition. My Grandfather wrote about a hidden territory he once visited; it belonged to Hidden Mountain Pack, and he describes in detail how to get into that hidden territory. However, that is not all he wrote about, and I believe that both subjects are what they are after. My Grandfather quickly found out that the only reason he was allowed to enter the territory had to do with his Mate; he posed no threat to the Pack. While he was there, he witnessed the Beta rejecting his fated Mate for being a Mountain Lion, and Grandfather walked out of the territory after he told the Alpha to rot in hell," I can feel his anger growing. I wrap my arms around his neck and place little kisses on his jawline, doing my best to calm him down. "Romano, can I ask you a question?" I hear Quinn ask, and I feel him nod his head. "What kind of shifter are you?" I giggle, because no one believed me when I told them my suspicions. "Is something funny, Little Angel?" Mano asks, and I hear Lance gasp. "Romano, you might want to talk to Jazzy before you call her that again. I can guarantee you she is everything but an angel," Lance mumbles, and I giggle again, because Lance is right. I lift my head up to look into his eyes. "They laughed at me when I told them I thought you would be a Bear shifter," I say with a little pout; Mano kisses my lips to remove the pout, and he looks over my head at the others. "My Little Angel was correct; we are Grizzly Bears," he says, and over my shoulder I look at Quinn, sticking my tongue out. "Romano, do you know who is after those journals?" Lakota asks, and I shiver when I hear that it is Night Shade Pack. "Who did they send?" I ask, knowing there are only two females capable of what he described. "One of them called her Wenonah," he answers. "Fuck, she is only twelve," I mumble as I hear her name. I have to explain how I know about Night Shade Pack. "I read about them in the Archive; the Alpha that founded Hidden Mountain Pack was related to them. He didn't approve of what the females in his family did, and he left with about fifty other members of Night Shade Pack to settle down, to start a Pack of their own. There are three journals about Night Shade Pack; each Pack-member wrote down their own story. In the last journal, he explains the gift some of the females in his family possess, and from what Mano described, she possesses the gift. I looked online for any additional information and found out that Wenonah is the latest addition to the list of gifted females. Wenonah is able to relive a memory wherever she is; most of the time it comes naturally, and if she practices enough she can force it," I tell them. "The journals explain that they use their gift for the highest bidder, and they don't care about what happens to the ones they spy on; all they care about is the money." If they were looking for the journals to find the entrance, I wonder who hired them. "Alpha, could it have been Jazzy's former Mate that hired them?" I ask, but I don't think I want to know the answer. "Little Angel, why would your Sister's former Mate want to know that location?" Mano asks, and I realize he still doesn't know where we are. "Because we are in the hidden territory, Romano," Lakota answers him. I hear him sigh in relief, and I think it has to do with Ivan and Malik; he knows that they have been safe all this time. Lakota tells him how we all got here and why we built the diner and motel at the fork in the road; from time to time he asks a question, but other than that he just listens to Lakota. "I will have to inform the Council about Night Shade Pack and their search for the entrance to the hidden territory. Romano, can I tell Council-member Armas about your family and what kind of shifter you are?" she asks him, and for a moment I feel him stiffen, but Lakota reassures him that Armas won't tell anyone else if he is more comfortable with that. "I wouldn't want him to run into a cub and die on the spot," she says, and I hear Mano chuckle. He gives her permission to tell him, but that he would prefer it if Armas didn't tell anyone else. As I listen to the others talk, I run my finger over the pendant, and I smile as my finger touches the sleeping cub. "How did you get that necklace, Josy?" Darrius asks, and I tell him it belonged to Mano's Mother. He runs from the room, leaving us all behind in silence, and before we can question what just happened, he runs back into the office, slamming the door shut behind him as he looks at whatever he has in his hand. He turns it towards me, and Mano takes it from his hand. "That is my Mom," he says as he looks at the photo. Darrius points to the female next to Mano's Mom and says, "That is my Aunt; it is the only photo of her. My Grandmother destroyed every other photo with her in it; my Grandmother didn't approve of her Mate, and everyone was forbidden to ever speak about her." We can all hear the sadness in his voice.Mano takes a closer look at the female, and a sad smile spreads across his face. "That is Aunt Myra; she is the only other family I have left. She started traveling after my Uncle died; we don't see her much these days," he says.
