The Replacement He Never Wanted
Addison's face remained calm. Deep down, she knew there was no point in defending herself. She had indeed pushed Virginia just moments ago. Even if she tried to explain, with Lisa and Samantha standing by, they would surely side with Virginia. They might even lie and insist it was a deliberate push, leaving Addison with no way to defend herself. As expected, before Addison could say anything, Samantha eagerly spoke up, "Addison, not only are you full of jealousy, but you're also so cruel to push Virginia down! If I hadn't intervened just in time, Virginia would have been bleeding!" Her voice was loud, ensuring that everyone around could hear her clearly. The guests, now gathered in a circle, began to whisper, their eyes full of disdain for Addison, just as Virginia had hoped. Addison didn't try to argue. She simply walked up to Virginia, her tone cool. "Virginia, get up now. "Don't just lie there on the ground. Are you trying to show off your figure in that dress? It doesn't reflect well on your image," Addison added with a mocking tone. Virginia suddenly realized that the dress she was wearing was a revealing style. She quickly covered her chest, flustered. "Help me up!" Lisa rushed to help Virginia to her feet. "If you hadn't pushed Virginia, how would she have ended up on the floor?" Lisa chided angrily. Virginia, still shaken, struggled to stand, looking as helpless as a frightened kitten, prompting sympathy from the onlookers. "Don't be pushy on Addison. I don't think she meant to do it." "Virginia! You're too kind! You let someone like Addison walk all over you! If it were me, I would've made her pay for this already!" Lisa said, frustrated. "My family always taught me to be kind, and I've always followed that advice. Let's not make things harder for Addison," Virginia added, her voice softening in an attempt to calm the situation. Addison looked at Virginia's pitiful expression and the way she seemed to be playing the victim, and it made her stomach turn. "What's with that face, Addison? Virginia is so kind to you, and yet you're still ungrateful?" Addison's words were cold and cutting. "If I'm not mistaken, you only met Virginia today, right? You've known her for just a few hours, yet you claim to know her so well?"Lisa's expression changed. "Stop it, Addison." Virginia quickly reached out to pull on Lisa's sleeve, trying to cover up the situation. She feigned anger. "If you keep talking, I might get really upset." Troy, who had been watching from the sidelines, couldn't help but comment, "Mr. Lance sure is lucky to have such a beautiful and good-natured companion. He really is fortunate. "In comparison, Mrs. Johnston's actions were completely over the top." Virginia walked toward Addison. "Addison, I'm not going to hold this against you. "But I remember you begged me to help you get into Raven Company. You said Lance didn't like you and that if I helped, you'd leave him. "Why did you push me today? Are you just going back on your word?" Virginia's voice wasn't loud, but it carried enough for everyone to hear clearly. "Addison, you actually did that? You want to get into Raven but don't want to rely on your own abilities? So you're trying to sneak in through back doors?" Lisa's eyes widened in disbelief. The crowd murmured in reaction. Addison bit her lip; she was taken by surprise when Virginia turned the situation back on her regarding Raven. "I begged you? You brought a whole army of bodyguards to my house and bullied me alone. Why didn't you tell everyone about that?" Addison shot back. "It was you who insisted on flaunting your connection to the CEO of Raven. If I hadn't agreed, you'd have sent all those bodyguards after me. What was I supposed to do, wait to be beaten?" she continued. "That's a whole lot of nonsense!" Virginia's face darkened. "Oh? Is it really? Just ask around town. So many bodyguards parading around, someone must have seen them." Addison smirked. Virginia fell silent, unsure how to respond. The people surrounding them looked confused, unable to piece together the situation. Lisa clearly didn't believe it and asked, "Virginia, is what Addison is saying true?" Virginia rolled her eyes inwardly. How naive! By not answering, I'm implicitly agreeing. Why is this fool asking me to confirm it? Isn't it obvious? As Virginia considered how to respond, a male voice suddenly cut through the tension. "What's going on here?" Lance's cold gaze swept across the group. As Lance approached, the crowd parted, and he stepped to the center. Upon spotting Addison, his eyes narrowed. "You're here at the party?" he asked, his voice dripping with disgust. Addison didn't answer, completely ignoring Lance. Lance, seeing her nonchalance, was immediately filled with anger. A chill radiated from him. Virginia, standing nearby, nearly gritted her teeth into dust in frustration. Did Lance only have eyes for Addison? She was standing right there, and yet he couldn't see her? "Lance ... " Virginia tugged at his sleeve, trying to appear pitiful. Lance finally noticed her and furrowed his brow deeper. "Virginia, what's going on?" Virginia gave Lisa a knowing look, and Lisa immediately spoke up. "Mr. Lance, Addison pushed Virginia out of jealousy when she saw you bring her to the party. If I hadn't reacted quickly, Virginia would have been injured." Lance's eyes grew colder, and he turned to Addison. "You told me you wouldn't come to the party, and yet here you are, making a scene in front of so many guests! You've truly embarrassed my family!" Lance's tone left no room for doubt. He fully believed Lisa's account of the events. Addison couldn't help but smile bitterly. She had always known that, in Lance's eyes, she was the villain. Of course, he would favor Virginia, his first love. "You're still smiling?" Lance's face darkened, his fury reaching its peak. "You've ruined my family reputation!" "Everyone disperse!" Lance's voice was icy. The crowd quickly scattered, leaving Virginia alone with Lisa and Samantha. After the crowd cleared, Lance grabbed Addison's wrist and dragged her out forcefully. "What are you doing?" Addison was caught off guard as Lance pulled her away."Lance! Where are you going?" Virginia's face turned pale. She hadn't expected Lance to act this way—she couldn't allow him to be alone with Addison! As she started to follow them, Troy, who had been watching for a while, suddenly appeared before her. "Ms. Dolton, would you mind giving me a moment? I'd like to get to know you better." Virginia was stunned, her attention immediately drawn to the man. She didn't look at his face but instead focused on his clothing and watch. That watch, it seemed like this man came from a good background. Troy grinned at her, his eyes gleaming. Virginia was exactly his type—so innocent and beautiful. Although she was Lance's woman, he believed if he could get what he wanted, those risks that came with it would be worth it. If he could ... it would all be worth it, even if Lance found out. Beauty like hers was worth it. The fact that the woman hadn't turned away made him even more intrigued. Maybe she wasn't so resistant to him after all. He grinned, his mind already running wild with possibilities.
