The Replacement He Never Wanted
Addison furrowed her brows. How was it that the moment Virginia made a video call, Keith answered, but the call she made at a crucial moment had been ignored? What a j*rk, forgetting friends when there's a woman involved! Wasn't he supposed to be healing from a broken heart? Was this his version of healing? Addison stood at the back, her eyes narrowed into a cold, almost mocking stare as she watched the screen. Virginia held the phone in her hand, and when the video call connected, she couldn't help but glance sideways at Addison. Her face brimmed with mockery and undisguised sarcasm. Keith actually picked up! Today, she would make sure Addison witnessed it all. She moved the phone a bit closer, a smile tugging at her lips as she greeted Keith on the screen with a beaming, almost flirtatious grin. "I ... " she began to speak, but Keith interrupted. "Angel ... " Keith's voice was soft, like a gentle spring breeze. The tenderness in his tone was so different from the Keith she remembered. Virginia froze. Was he calling her? It must be her. There were only two people there—her and Addison—and Keith didn't know Addison, so it had to be her he was addressing. But why did he call out to her intimately? Could it be that Keith was interested in her after all? Virginia's confidence grew. Her eyes curving into a satisfied arch. She took the opportunity to act close with him. "Keith, you've been ignoring calls for so long, I thought you weren't going to pick up!" Keith had called her so intimately when the call first connected, but since their last meeting, Keith had never reached out. Now, when he called out to her in such a gentle tone ... After their previous encounter, Keith probably couldn't stop thinking about her but didn't want to contact her directly because of Lance. Addison could feel a shiver run down her spine as she heard that fake sugary tone. They really were familiar with each other. She would definitely be asking Keith about this later. The phone screen was suddenly pulled closer by the woman in front, and Addison's face flashed quickly on the screen, making it hard for Keith to see her clearly. He frowned. Why was this woman holding the phone so close? Was she not giving Addison any screen space? He couldn't even see her properly. "Keith?" Virginia waved her hand slightly, noticing he hadn't responded. "Huh?" Keith snapped back to attention. He turned his gaze to the woman in front of him. The woman before him had a cute, delicate look, with big eyes and a sweet, almost innocent smile that gave her an almost pure appearance. She looked somewhat like Addison. But he didn't know her, did he? "Do you need something?" Keith raised an eyebrow, his expression mixed with amusement and curiosity. His eyes glanced at Virginia casually, but there was something in his gaze that hinted at unspoken affection. Just that soft gaze could stir emotions in a lot of women. Virginia's heart fluttered a little; she began, "I have something to say to you ... " Before she could finish, Keith interrupted her. "Wait, I see there's someone behind you. Could you move the screen a bit?" Keith raised an eyebrow and asked politely. The woman's face was getting uncomfortably close. It didn't look like she planned to give Addison any screen time at all. Keith couldn't help but speak up. "Huh? Okay, okay." Virginia smiled awkwardly and shifted the screen toward Addison. Now, it was better. He could see Addison. Keith looked satisfied. He turned his gaze to Addison, who stood there with furrowed brows and a stormy expression, her face a mixture of irritation and barely concealed anger. When she noticed Keith's eyes on her, Addison glared at him. How dare he look at me? What's going on? Who pissed her off? Keith was bewildered. "Keith, I have something to say." Virginia tried to finish her sentence. "Uh-huh, go ahead," Keith said, pushing aside his confusion as his eyes moved back to Virginia. He could hardly muster the courage to speak to Addison with the look on her face. Virginia adjusted her tone, carefully choosing her words. "Keith, I have a friend who would like to join Raven Company." Keith frowned at the mention of Raven Company. Virginia pulled Addison into view and introduced, "This is my friend. She said she wants to join Raven Company, but we're not sure if that's possible. Virginia suddenly yanked Addison forward, causing him to stumble slightly and nearly fall. Forced to be put in front of the screen, Addison looked at Keith with a polite smile, but her eyes stayed cold and distant. "Hey, slow down, be careful," Keith said, startled by Addison's near fall. However, to Addison, it sounded a bit different. Since when was Keith this polite and considerate? Was he trying to make a good impression in front of Virginia? "Is it okay, Keith?" Virginia asked nervously. Addison shot a cold glance at the two of them, her expression unreadable. From Keith's expression, it seemed he liked Virginia. Was it true that all men liked women like her type, someone fake and manipulative? "Of course, if she wants to join Raven Company, she can," Keith said confidently. After all, Addison was the second-largest shareholder in Raven. Could Keith really stop her from joining? Besides, he had practically handed over the CEO position to Addison, so it didn't really matter whether she joined or not. What was going on here? "Really? Are you serious?" Virginia asked, her voice full of surprise at how quickly and decisively Keith had responded."Of course. She can come to Raven anytime she wants or ask for anything directly from the vice president. I may be out here, but the vice president will definitely help." Keith said seriously. "Thank you, Keith!" Virginia's voice was full of delight. She had never imagined that her status in Keith's eyes was this high, to the point that her words could get Addison into Raven and even earn her special attention from the vice president. The whole authorization thing would be a breeze now. Addison stood to the side, her expression neutral as she watched Keith's gaze drift toward her on the screen. She frowned and stepped back a little, deciding to ignore them. Suddenly, someone called Keith's name from the other side of the room. Keith turned his head. "Keith, are you busy? I don't want to keep you. I'll leave you to it. Addison can contact you later!" Virginia smiled and asked sweetly. "Ah, okay," Keith seemed rushed, but he still turned back to answer. "Goodbye, Angel." He couldn't see Addison's face on the screen again. "Goodbye," Virginia smiled lightly, sure that the farewell was for her. The call ended. "Well, what do you think? Do you believe it now?" Virginia lifted her chin, a triumphant gleam in her eye. Addison didn't say a word. She merely looked at Virginia. Virginia noticed her silence and let out a soft laugh. "What's wrong? Too surprised to speak?" "What? Should I thank you?" Addison sneered. "How should I thank you?" Virginia pressed her lips together. "I'm in a good mood today. I was going to ask you to do something, but I changed my mind. Let's leave it at that." After all, she had to thank Addison. Without her, how would she have known that the charming CEO from Raven had secretly admired her all this time? For now, she'd let Addison off the hook!
