The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 539 Come On, Let's Continue!

Her eyes flickered. She had an idea! "If you don't want to talk about it, then fine, let's drink instead." As she spoke, Addison picked up the wine jug and poured Lance a full glass. "Let's drink!" Lance, already a little tipsy, eyed the brimming glass with hesitation. He didn't feel like drinking anymore, a slight resistance building in his heart. "Are you not going to drink?" Noticing his continued reluctance, Addison reached out and gently hooked her finger around the glass's handle. Her voice softened, carrying a hint of a coquettish tone. "Come on, drink with me, just as a favor to me." Lance froze. Addison had never spoken to him like this before. That soft and playful tone hit him in a way he wasn't prepared for. He couldn't handle it. Not wanting to lose face, he reluctantly replied, "Just one glass.""Okay, just one glass." Addison smiled brightly. As long as he started, the rest would be easy, right? She had plenty of ways to get him to keep drinking! Sure enough, after downing the first glass, Lance couldn't resist her persuasion for a second. Before long, he had emptied glass after glass. The wine jug on the table was soon drained dry. Addison waved her hand dramatically, calling out, "Waiter, bring us a few more jugs of wine!" By now, Lance looked visibly intoxicated, but Addison wasn't sure about his alcohol tolerance. Was he really drunk? To play it safe, she needed to get him to drink more. Only then could she get him to spill. Lance sat dazedly in his seat, the sight of the rolling, tumbling sea outside adding to his growing dizziness. Addison's voice lingered in his ears. "Shall we have a few more drinks?" "Ar-are you not drunk yet?"Lance hesitated. His drinking capacity was exceptional; he rarely felt tipsy. But tonight, he had indeed drunk a significant amount. Could Addison really still be sober? "Me?" Addison pointed at herself, feigning surprise. Then, as if a thought crossed her mind, she curved her lips into a faint smile. "I'm not drunk. "I always thought you had a great tolerance for alcohol. But now, it seems like your drinking capacity might not be as good as mine?" The provocation in her words was unmistakable. And Lance, seemingly unable to resist this type of challenge, immediately straightened up in his chair. "My drinking capacity isn't as good as yours? Impossible." "Is that so? Then let's keep drinking and see who can last longer." Addison raised her glass, her radiant smile brimming with confidence. Perhaps it was her dazzling smile, or maybe it was a subconscious desire to win her approval, but Lance suddenly perked up. Without hesitation, he grabbed his glass and downed it in one go. "Well done, Mr. Johnston!" Addison applauded and, staying true to her word, filled her glass to the brim and drained it in one gulp. "You're not bad either," Lance remarked, glancing at her. "Come on, let's continue." Addison placed her emptied glass back on the table, refilling Lance's glass to the brim. "No pause for a breather?" Lance raised his gaze. "What's this? Do you need a break?" Addison's eyes carried a hint of teasing. Gritting his teeth slightly, he declared, "I don't need it." "Then let's continue." Things were progressing as she had anticipated, and Addison felt secretly delighted.
