The Replacement He Never Wanted
Truth be told, this divorce agreement had actually been given to her by Virginia. Virginia had been dissatisfied with the 10 million compensation, so she intentionally gave Addison a new divorce agreement with no settlement at all. Addison didn't mind this version. With every clause in this agreement benefiting him, how could he possibly object? "Did you add this clause?" Lance looked up and asked, his eyes clearly filled with emotion, as though he were asking something important. "Are you not satisfied with it?" Addison didn't respond right away. Instead, she raised an eyebrow and looked at him. "Not satisfied," the man answered quickly and decisively, without hesitation. "I remember ... the agreement I gave you didn't read this way. "Did you rewrite this clause?" Addison suddenly smiled with a touch of sarcasm. "The one you gave me wasn't written like this." "That version stated that for any assets acquired during our marriage, 10 million of it would belong to me ... " She curled her lips. "Mr. Johnston, do you think there's any difference for me between giving me 10 million and giving me nothing at all?" Both were meant to humiliate her—so there was no difference at all. "Ten million ... Mr. Johnston, I think even beggars get more than that, given the Johnston family's wealth, " she added. Lance's face immediately darkened at her words, his lips tightening into a straight line. In his memory, a large portion of the Johnston family's wealth was supposed to be given to Addison in the first agreement he drafted ... But he had almost forgotten that, in a fit of anger, he had impulsively asked Mike to draft a divorce agreement with the 10 million divorce settlement clause. If Addison didn't mention it, he would have completely forgotten. "I ... "Lance tried to explain, tugging at his lips. But Addison wouldn't give him the chance. She sarcastically said, "Mr. Johnston, you don't plan to humiliate me again, do you? "Giving me 10 million was enough to humiliate me. There is no need to say anything more. I'm thin-skinned, and I can't take much more humiliation." Her words effectively silenced Lance. If he tried to explain now that he had drafted the divorce agreement out of anger and never meant to humiliate her... Addison probably wouldn't believe him. He let out a self-deprecating smile. Addison wouldn't believe anything he said anymore. His emotions started to stir inside him, and the paper he was holding crinkled from the tight grip in his hand. Seeing this, Addison quickly spoke up, afraid Lance would ruin the divorce agreement. "Mr. Johnston, please sign now. "Be careful not to wrinkle the paper." It had been hard enough to get this far—she couldn't risk angering him and let the whole deal be ruined now. Hearing Addison's words, the man slowly relaxed his grip. He looked at Addison, then lowered his eyes, silently smoothing out the paper. "Alright." He answered through gritted teeth. Though he verbally agreed, the pen in his hand felt like it weighed a thousand pounds—he picked it up, then put it down, and repeated the process endlessly. It was as if he couldn't bring himself to sign. Addison watched and grew anxious. "Mr. Johnston, do you have any other doubts?" All the clauses in this divorce agreement were in Lance's and the Johnston family's favor. Anyone else would have agreed already.
