The Replacement He Never Wanted
"Lance, what makes Addison so remarkable? How did I never realize she could perform surgery? "I only knew she could handle medicine, mix it, and dispense it, but I never imagined she was skilled with surgery." Marilyn held Lance's hand, her words full of admiration. Lance's eyes lingered on Addison, and his voice carried a tinge of complexity. "She's always been this way." Always hiding, whether it's her background, character, likes, feelings, or talents. He knew nothing about her. She had concealed it so well over the years. And, clearly, she had kept him at a distance. "What do you mean?" Marilyn asked, confused. Lance turned his gaze away, his brows knitting together. "It's nothing." Unaware of anything unusual, Marilyn continued, "Addison isn't just Dr. Nancy's assistant. Now she's performing surgery with Divine Healer ..." She stopped mid-sentence, suddenly realizing something was off. "Hold on. "Does Addison know Divine Healer?" Her mind replayed a series of actions and words from Matthew since his arrival at Johnston Residence. Everything, including his actions, expressions, and words, seemed to have a strange connection to Addison. "Does Divine Healeer know Addison?" She asked, her voice rising with sudden understanding, turning to Lance for confirmation. "Is it true, Lance? Does Addison know him?" Lance had intended to act as if he didn't know. But when he saw the certainty in Marilyn's eyes, he realized she was simply asking for confirmation. He gave a slight nod. "Yes." Not only did he know her, but Addison had been "welcomed" at the Daves Residence that day.Lance had his suspicions about Addison's special position within the Daves. However, he chose to stay quiet about it and had no plans to share this with Marilyn. "Addison knows Divine Healer. So what could their relationship be?" A thousand thoughts raced through her mind, even considering the possibility that Addison was somehow connected to the Daves. Marilyn's body shook ever so slightly. "Is something wrong? Are you feeling sick?" Lance noticed immediately and expressed his concern. "No." "I just ... " Marilyn hesitated, trailing off mid-sentence before waving her hand. "Forget it. I won't say anything." Lance disliked it when people stopped speaking halfway. "Tell me," he insisted. Marilyn glanced up at her son, studying his features from his eyebrows down to his eyes, nose, and mouth."I ... I just suddenly feel that you're not good enough for Addison." Addison had everything she wanted. She was not only stunning and strong-willed, but now it seemed her social standing was also quite high. After all, the connection with Dr. Nancy's assistant was something no one could easily attain. And now she had learned that Addison was actually acquainted with Matthew. Who was Matthew? Even if the Johnstons begged at the Daves' doorstep, they wouldn't be granted an audience. Meanwhile, her son, though she hated to admit it, was merely the CEO of Johnston Enterprises. The only thing he had going for him was his striking appearance, unmatched by anyone else in all of Halton. Looking at it from this angle, her son truly wasn't worthy of Addison.
