The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 465 Hold You Back

Addison hadn't moved on from the scene. Her long eyelashes were still glistening with tears. Her lips trembled as she whimpered and sobbed, her chest heaving dramatically. It made anyone want to hold her close. Lance did just that. He didn't know why, but he felt an uncontrollable urge to hug this fragile girl, his warm breath on her neck, sending ripples through his heart. His mind replayed the recent scene and Addison's expressive eyes. He wondered if that girl was Addison. Lance trusted his instincts and never doubted his memory. He knew he couldn't be mistaken about someone so important. He was curious why the captivating eyes from his memory matched Addison's, wondering if Addison was the person who had saved him before. At the same time, he thought of Virginia, which made him even more confused. "Don't cry, it's alright now." Lance gently patted Addison's shoulder. He had never used such a soft tone to comfort anyone, not even Virginia. He realized he always seemed to make exceptions for her. He hugged Addison, gently patting her back, afraid to disturb her. Just then, his phone rang again. It was Mike calling. Lance glanced at the phone screen and frowned. He released Addison and carefully placed her on the seat, adjusting it to a comfortable angle before answering the call. "Lance, this is too sudden! I'm in the middle of a lawsuit! The judge hasn't even finished speaking, and the evidence hasn't been presented yet!" Lance ignored Mike's complaints and got straight to the point. "Did you pick up the person?" That was all he cared about, nothing else mattered to him. "Not yet, it's not that quick." The voice on the other end sounded helpless.Lance frowned even more, his lips pressed together, about to speak, but Mike seemed to anticipate his response. "Don't worry, I'm already at the airport, but it will be a while before the Divine Healer arrives." Hearing this, Lance's expression softened a bit. He turned to look at Addison, who was sitting quietly. Her eyes were still red, and the tear stains on her cheeks hadn't dried. He wanted to wipe away those tear stains for her. "As long as you're there. I'll hang up now." He was about to hang up when Mike's voice stopped him. "Wait, Lance, isn't it a bit disrespectful not to personally receive the Divine Healer?" Mike, standing by the car, one hand in his pocket, looked at the people coming and going at the airport entrance as he asked. There was silence on the other end. He continued, "You've let me handle such a major task as connecting with the Divine Healer. Can I ask what's going on?" This wasn't like Lance.Previously, Lance had gone to great lengths to get tickets for the Divine Healer's auction. Now that the Divine Healer was lowering himself to visit the Johnstons, Lance wasn't personally receiving him. Lance still didn't speak, but Mike's keen ears picked up the faint sound of sniffing from the other end. It was a woman's voice. "You're not letting a woman hold you back, are you?"
